Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Lilanna Kelamvor Lilanna Kelamvor

Bakura

A small plume of black smoke, invisible to the sensors of the system's orbital defense platforms, fell from the heavens to the surface of the world in question. Lying low upon the earth beneath it, it crept across the landscape. Within the sphere of this world was a key, something that would prove most useful. Though Dea, her herald, had remained mostly unused, here was another opportunity to spread her influence as a goddess within the heart of a single individual.

An individual whose presence she was seeking to inch upon as she thought.

She tensed, body ready to strike, as the several training droids moved around her. Lilanna had been honing her reflexes for some time now, and this simple training had been key in that development. She took in a breath, seven droids rotated about her, the small orbs fixating, adjusting, locking onto her. They were prepared to fire, and she was prepared to move.
The first blaster shot rang out, and she moved to the side, into the path of the second shot. She ducked under it, only to find the third shot coming from above. She rolled to the side, several more shots following, as the Warden leapt high into the air, twisting her body as two remaining shots arced towards her, narrowly missing in the process. She extended her hand, the force lashing out and taking hold of the droids, as she would power them down, leaving them dormant as her feet just managed to touch the ground. A tad spent after having practiced this drill several times over, she paused, taking a rest as she meditated, feeling a bit pleased at how she had managed such a stunt.
Clearly, she was improving.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Ah, the one whose heart has called out from across the cosmos.

The words seemed to come from every direction and none as the spectral smoke slithered across the otherwise barren landscape of the training ground, leaving a trail of footsteps in its wake. Once it was but a few meters away, the smoke arose as a vague, humanoid shape manifested. Blacker than the void of space, it seemed almost to draw in the very light right into a pair of glistening silvered orbs that shone within its inky exterior. The eyes gazed directly at Lilanna, and a sense of a smile seemed to emanate from the creature itself.

You are the one who reached out to the goddess Onrai, mother of creation, and I have come to answer your call.

She knew something was amiss as the force felt distorted around her, her calm aura vanished, and in it's place she felt uneasy. She rose to her feet, seeing smoke flow in around her, a lone female shape stepping from it. It was like looking at the maw of space itself, and for once, Lil felt entirely confused at what she was seeing. The entity moved towards her, eyes gazing into Lil's soul, as two silver orbs were the only trace of detail on this creatures form.
To say she was alarmed was putting it mildly. Saber now ignited, Lil pointed the weapon at the creature, hoping to cast light, try to identify what was approaching her. "I've made no plea to this mother, and I have no calls that need be answered. What form of creature are you?" She demanded, stepping back, mustering the force towards her, as whatever this entity was, it was clearly something to be feared.
Her body tensed, the force taking up refuge within her, as she felt that a battle would soon be upon her, and this creature would not be willing to take her alive.
She wouldn't be a slave again, not if she could help it.

It is not a call to the mind you made, but a call to the heart.

As the form approached Lilanna, the horror of its unnatural existence began to permeate reality. The ground shifted, taking on textures and colors unknown to the sight of the galaxy itself before returning to normalcy as the entity stepped away. When it was within range, it raised a hand towards the acolyte, a tendril of darkness forming from it that sped across the emptiness of the air between them before likely poking the apprentice. If it had made contact, the result would be a sensation most unusual.

Ticklishness.

Whatever this thing was, it was resorting to mind games, and Lil was none too pleased. This entity was strange, show casing power she had never before seen. The inky cloud that had morphed around much of her training area had taken on a form similar to the entity, making the Warden feel even more threatened.

Stepping back as the figure broke away from the cloud, she began to channel the force into her palm, wondering slip this attack would even work. She attempted to lash out, blast of force power to repel the creature away. A tendril of shadow lashed out at her, and the Warden moved to strike; but the shadow was faster.

She expected to feel pain, perhaps even death. What she felt though was by far more terrifying. The tickling sensation trigger a panic in her mind, the Warden losing focus as a yelp of surprise escaped her, her force attack vanishing as it flew skyward, far off target.

Rather than strike, she attempted to retreat from this creature before it could do her any more harm. It had already found her fatal weakness, no need to try and combat it further.

Sensing the moment of weakness within the combination of flesh and machine, the entity sought to strike once more. Further tendrils of midnight blackness emerged from its arm as they headed towards the young acolyte. It was a deliberate decision, an act made in an attempt to incapacitate the woman who as of yet had not chosen to even consider her heart's acceptance of the mother goddess. A combination of machine and flesh was precisely the sort of entity needed now that the artificial intelligence known as Omni had once more arisen in the galaxy.

The question now was whether or not she would be able to acquire such.

To Lil's horror, the entity continued to strike at her. Tendrils snaked after her, prompting her to swing her saber, attempting to cut through the shadows, but to no avail. She stepped back, trying to dodge the attack, but it followed her, striking her once again, and once again she was only struck with the hellish sensation. She yelped, trying to cut through the odd attack, but soon found both hands bound, the tendrils poking at her, and spurring a series of distorted giggles from the Warden. "Hey, cut that out! Fight me damn it!" She demanded, but it did little good.
She tried in vain to break free, hand legs kicking, only to find the shadows pulling her towards the figure, the tickling only becoming more intense as the figure continued to prod her, keeping her subdued for the time being. Now struggling against full blown laughter, her mind began to formulate how to escape, only to be blocked out by the sensations being given out by the tendrils, the Warden now howling as the entity managed to trap her.
Why in the hell was it doing this? And why out of all methods of torture, was it going to the one she could tolerate the least? This was some long series of bad luck on her end. Struggling and kicking against the shadowy tickles, she felt her saber fall from her hand, and could only hope the entity would stop before she laughed herself hoarse.

The shadow stepped forward and seemed to almost ooze around the lightsaber, swallowing it into an infinite darkness from which there seemed to be no escape. Disarmed and incapacitated, the acolyte was ready to listen, at least in theory.

Being powerless doesn't feel good, does it? The entity asked. Compared to a being such as myself, you are but dust in the wind. What if I told you that through your dedication to me, through your worship, you could become strong enough to stand before even a god and exert your own will? Whether or not this appealed to the acolyte was unclear.

Perhaps it would get interesting.

To her relief, the tickling stopped, and the giggling Warden was given time to breath. Panting and wondering where the hell Nyxie was when she needed her, the entity spoke to her. Winded and beyond feeling embarrassed by what this creature had done to her, she looked up with a degree of disgust. "I'm not a slave, and I...will not bow down to whatever sick whims you decree." She reaffirmed, fearing what would follow, though determined not to break from something as....well frankly foolish as being tickled.
At least, she hoped she was strong enough to resist that. Yes, she was weak, but she still had some semblance of pride within her, and she didn't want to see it quashed by some shadow creature that had managed to subdue her. "I don't even know what you are." She stated, this time more boldly, though she now stood unarmed and lost in the center of a inky void, unable to move as the creature had her bound.
If only she had some idea of what she was fighting against. Maybe then could she stand a chance at combating it.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
I am someone who is willing to accept you for what you are.

It was those words specifically which iterated the response the entity had for the wayward apprentice. It understood what she was, what it was she wanted - and how it could provide precisely what it was Lilanna was looking for with regards to comfort. Though it still retained its bonds encumbering her, its form became more distinctly humanoid, more feminine in form. Its face became more distinct and visible, the blackness fading to a lighter shade of black that was reflective enough to reveal features.

Or would you rather I go back to making you spasm in paroxysms of laughter?

Whatever this entity wanted, she didn't care to accept whatever gift it was offering. "I already have that." She shot back, pulling hard against the restraints, only to find herself unable to move. She could no longer feel the force obeying her, either stress, or the creature before her was the culprit. She watched as the entity began to change form once more, something more feminine features, though she couldn't understand why it had been her that was chosen. Her power was lacking compared to others, and though she was a member of the Empresses guard, she was by far the weakest of it's members. "Why are you here? Why are you coming after me of all people?" She demanded an answer, but would most likely not be given an answer.
She stared at the creature, a mix of disdain and fear in her eyes, gritting her teeth as she felt she would be tortured once more. "Do you worst." She said, cringing as she tried in vain to steel herself, hoping the creature would just leave her be.

"Because I sense that deep within your heart you are looking for something to fill a void." Finally the entity spoke words, words directed clearly at the woman before her. The form became even more clear - hair, facial features, even clothing became formed from the fluid essence of the entity in question. "Your heart among all of those on this planet is receptive to the touch of Onrai. Of me." She responded. Upon receiving the unfortunate negative affirmation, the tendril once more sought to induce the sensation of tickling, an attempt to further wear down the defenses of the woman in question.

"I don't want to have to keep doing this."

She didn't understand anything that was being told to her. Yes, she wanted someone to fill the void in her life. She wanted to know love again, she wanted to be able to trust again. Yet this entity couldn't offer her that. No one could, no one save for herself. The creature became even more solid now, hair, clothing, and face taking form, and she found herself transfixed upon it.
What in the hell had come for her? Onrai? Was...that this creatures name?
Lil's eyes widened as she saw the tendrils shift, her body tensing as she tried to kick away, but felt the tendrils go back to tormenting her, infuriating the warden further. "Then don't! No, no! Feth!" She screamed out through laughter, just wanting something to start making sense and for the torment to end. After a moment of being unable to stop the creature, Lil couldn't stand it anymore, and was forced to admit defeat. Face bright red, face streaked with tears, she relented, calling out through bouts of frenzied laughter. "Fine, fine! Just stop it! Please!" She pleaded, just hoping to buy a moment of peace from this Onrai so it could leave her alone.

"I'm glad you've seen the light."

The sensations ceased, the tendrils slowly withdrew from around the apprentice as the entity's skin and hair manifested. Blonde hair, piercing green eyes, and pale skin grew more obvious as the shadow developed into a black robe, simple and surprisingly modest for a goddess. "I understand the lack of trust. The belief none can care for you aside from yourself. All I request is your devotion, and in return you shall receive that, and the power which you have long since fought for. Power similar to that of the Empress you yourself protect."

After all, it was Onrai who had made said Empress what she was behind the masquerade of humanity.

Panting, angry, and wanting desperately to strike this creature for what it had done to her, Lilanna could only watch as Onrai moved towards her. A woman materialized from the shadows, beautiful, but the fact that she was clearly not human was all too easy to tell. Pulling on the bonds, they felt as hard as steel; she wasn't going anywhere. The woman did herself few favors by the manner of which she spoke, talking as if she knew who she was, speaking as if she understood an ounce of Lilanna's life. "Why do you keep talking like you know me?" She said, her eyes tense, staring forward, trying to vanish the woman by pure anger alone.
It didn't amount to much.

"Because as a higher form of being, I understand exactly what comprises the fabric of someone like yourself." She said. "And I can provide you with that acceptance, with that care that you've long since been without. The very thing that has calloused your heart can be softened." She sighed, a little bit frustrated at the continued hostility Lilanna showcased. "Open your heart to me. To Onrai. I will provide you with the care and adopt you as one of my own."

Perhaps these words would intrigue her.
