Intent: A plug-in module suitable for the Zerek Socket on properly outfitted iBorg neural implants, such as the Clarity.
Development Thread: No
Manufacturer: iBorg
Model: Zerek Resilience Node
Affiliation: Open market
Modularity: It's a module
Production: Minor production
Material: Electronics, desh-terenthium, high-grade nullification resin (optional)
Description: The Zerek Resilience Node is a module that fits into the Zerek Socket on the Clarity and some other iBorg neural implants. Its primary function, a refinement of an ancient Numbness System implant, involves adjusting or nullifying input from pain receptors. This can have several uses.
  • Reducing or eliminating pain while retaining awareness of contact, impact, temperature, etc. (Comparable to the Force technique crucitorn.) Frequent, intense, or long-term use may make pain more profound and debilitating without the implant (ie., if removed or disabled).
  • Self-training in pain resistance. Increasing pain tolerance by stimulating pain receptors or enhancing incidental pains. Recreational use also plausible.
Note that, while this implant module can equip its wearer to withstand severe torture, most of the implants which can or will fit this module are visually obvious to torturers. The best solution, clearly, is to not get tortured while transhuman.

The Zerek Resilience Node is waterproof. At a cost to its wearer's Force senses, it can be outfitted with a layer of high-grade nullification resin or even a taozin nodule, preventing ambitious technometrists from simply dialing up the wearer's pain levels via the Resilience Node. The Resilience Node has no wireless link capabilities, rendering it useless as a slicing target, and the implants into which it is fitted are generally proofed against slicing in other ways. Extensive testing has confirmed that the Resilience Node will not cause pain spikes if disabled with EMP/ion weapons (assuming it is not fitted inside a properly insulated/shielded implant).
