There is pleasure in the pathless woods....

"What is our ETA?" Kian asked stepping through the doorway and into the cockpit of The Shadow. The stars ahead of him through the viewport were visually stretched into the lines of hyperspace.

"Five and half standard hours." The deep voice of Vel Mors, the Duros Jedi Knight who had brought the information to Kian about their destination. Approximately a month before the young Jedi had been investigating rumors of dark force users on a remote moon in an uncharted area of Wild Space. He had pin pointed the exact location but Kian had insisted that he not investigate alone.

"Good, let me know when we are approaching." Kian said patting the young Jedi on the shoulder. Vel was not a Jedi Shadow but rather a Jedi Peacekeeper who spent much of his time investigating political curruption, which is why he had informed Kian of the dark nature of this particular case when it became apparent to him. Kian was very impressed by the investigative mind of the Duros Jedi and would certainly be making a recruitment attempt once this mission was over.

"Eline." Kian said over the comm channel as he left the cockpit and made his way toward the training room. "I'd like you to meet me in the training room. We have some time until we arrive at our destination and I find a good sparring always works out pre-mission jitters." Kian said smiling. Arriving at the training room he quickly removed his outer robe so he was in his black and green pants and tunic and unclipped his lightsaber from his belt. Kneeling down, he sat the lightsaber on the mat in front of him and awaited the arrival of his new padawan. Kian and Eline had only met recently and this would be their first real mission together. Kian was always hesitant to take padawans on missions such as this, but it was a disservice to deny them such an excellent opportunity to gain real experience.

Departing Eira Pechal had been a thing she was glad to do. There was only so much time she could spend in introspection, dwelling on Jedi teachings and the most recent and most pointed lesson she had to take in... not from a Jedi, but from her own sister. That, to get anywhere, she would have to be more than what her culture made her to be. To stop being such a Hapan. That it had meant several more weeks on a praxeum ship only made her more stir-crazy, what with the peaceable path the Praxeum often took; she itched to do more. When the opportunity to relocate to somewhere less bucolic came along, she couldn't take it fast enough - her nascent skills aligned with a Master on Corellia, so to Corellia she went, not knowing what to expect.

Humanoid women she could identify with... humanoid men, she knew how to deal with (through a Hapan lense - that had to change)... but a Kel Dor? She had never met one until the day she arrived. She wasn't sure what to think, but she remembered Teyla's words, and did her best to check any preconceptions she might have. Every day. Every moment necessary. This resulted in a lot of long pauses, deep breaths, and carefully chosen words. Oh, and then there was the lightsaber; having a weapon beyond her own physicality and intellect was still a mite bewildering. She hadn't built this one... no, that was a ways off yet... but it was in her hand, deceptively light as she shrugged her still-new outer robe on the rest of the way, while heading out of her assigned quarters to the training room, as requested. At least this shade of green looked alright on her. It could have been worse.

On her way, she made a point of keeping her gaze away from any viewports: the stark, black emptiness of space was anxiety-inducing and the streaks of hyperspace weren't any more pleasant, though in a different way and for different reasons. Stopping just short of entering the training room, Eline released a breath she hadn't realised she was holding, and turned the corner into the space, bowed as she had been taught, and shrugged off the outer robe, folding it neatly before seating herself opposite to her new, first master, bending her knees and sinking to tuck her feet under her rear, gingerly placing her hilt in front of her knees, and the robe aside and out of the way. Her long, dark hair was tied up and away, a learned habit after discovering it got in the way and stuck to her face and neck from training-induced sweat when she started learning. She showered diligently.

"Jitters, Master?" She queried as she settled into place, failing at keeping the tease out of her voice, "I thought masters were the epitome of calm."

She was not. This whole thing teased at her nerves. It was hard to be pleasant, when stuck in a box, hurtling through what was essentially nothing.

Kian watched his new apprentice enter the training room and fall into place in front of him on the floor. He smiled at her words, a hidden smile thanks to the anti-ox mask. Kian could feel the nervous energy emanating from the younger Jedi, but he was pleased to see she kept a calm face plastered on. That was an important skill for a Jedi to have until they were more adept at calming the chaos within them, especially when working with other non-Jedi.

"When one looks out over a still lake, it appears calm," Kian said tilting his head to the side as he peered at Eline, "but below the surface there is movement, life and death struggles, and often, chaos. Jedi Masters feel, Eline. We've just spent our lives training ourselves to steady those feelings within the flow of the force around us. When you allow the distinction between your physical being and the wider world around you to blur, the results can be quite soothing."

"Does that make sense?" Kian asked after a moments thought. Kian gave the younger Jedi a moment to answer and then proceeded.

"Today's mission will be taking us into an investigation of darkside activity." Kian pointed out, knowing that she likely knew all this from the reports given to her before they had left. "We will be on our own and my intentions are to keep us out of danger....but you can not always control that."

"Tell me a bit about your experience with combat training," Kian said, having read her file but wanting to hear it from her, "You've been provided a lightsaber, but can you wield it?"
