Hello!

I am (spoiler alert) new, and excited to join up with this forum and get some interesting Star Wars stories rolling. Though I'm not new to roleplaying, I'm new to doing so on an rp forum. I expect to be fumbling about confused to begin with, but I hope you'll have patience with me.

I tried to do a little research on some Star Wars forums before deciding to join this one, and for what it's worth, this one stood out to me as the best option, a lot of it due to appearing to have a great and friendly community that I hope to become a part of. I'm joining together with a few friends, we used rp together and wanted to get back into SW rps.

To start off, I'll be creating a Sith apprentice and a Jedi padawan. Hinthint nudgenudge, if anyone are looking for an apprentice/padawan.

I am one of Trahir's friends he mentioned there, and he dragged me along. Not that I was hard to convince, mind you.

Like him, I have some experience with RP, and star wars had always been my 'thing'. I'm currently with boardgame club, and it's remained a trend there: X-Wing (got a tournament tonight), Armada, Imperial Assault, the living card game, you name it, I'm 'that guy' if you want a demo. Anyway, I do have a bit of forum experience from a place called Pravus Axiom. I've also done quite a bit of chatroom roleplays on deviantArt along with Trahir, and at one point ran my own little RP circle as an admin.

When Trahir nudged me into joining this place together, I decided to go along mostly because I miss the good old days and RP. It was a wonderful creative outlet and a way of meeting people. This group of friends of ours has been going strong for several years now, and that's how we met. I hope to meet more friends and flex ze little grey cells a little again.

I haven't decided yet, but I'll most likely make a Jedi Padawan once I get my bearings, and get a feel of the place before I try to import some of my old characters that I consider my 'staples'.

I desire to RP and will most likely make characters for either side, but neither are fully developed, hence the OOC account. I've got a few questions actually. First, how do you link to people, like you've done in your posts, without doing the whole @(member="") thing?
I saw mention of a timeline in the [GUIDE] Getting Started & Rules thread, but the link listed doesn't seem to work. Is there an updated version somewhere else?
I'm making my Sith apprentice now, and I got some questions that'd help me making the bio. Am I right in assuming there'd be Sith academies? If so, on which planets?

The only two ways to "mention" people so they receive a notification is using the @ symbol before their name, or using the code [ member="NAME" ] (Without the spaces)

The Sith have academies in many places, unfortunately I'm not too familiar with them. They currently control the core worlds including Coruscant, though.

Perhaps someone like [member="Silara Kuhn"] or [member="Darth Vornskr"], or [member="Darth Isolda"] can answer that question for you.

I want to make my first character a Jedi Padawan, and I have something of a concept worked out in my mind, but I'm finding it a bit difficult to figure out where I should start.
I don't like to make a character with an incomplete background to change afterward, since that would be changing things about a character that should really be set beforehand to me. I understand the background will still change since it will be updated and such, but I would prefer the basics to check out before I start so I have a solid footing to stand on. So it's a little difficult to figure out if it what would be logical and what setting it would make sense to end up with. I'm guessing the Republic, but I can't be certain since I don't really know what the Republic entails.

Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is if I could get some general advice as to where a Jedi could/should end up, and a general idea of the setting.

Depending on how you view your Jedi character they could belong to a number of factions. The Republic Jedi serve the Republic primarily and are more the traditional Jedi. The Silver are a bit more of a free group, with less restrictions as to what makes a Jedi a Jedi, though still light sided. There are also the less lightsided like the Order of Grey, who have known dark Jedi. Then there are factions who simply have Jedi in them of various backgrounds. Vitae, Underground, Rebels, Mandalorians all have some Jedi/Dark Jedi floating around.

Thanks, that's a huge help for orientation. I really like that you guys have so many choices, but it is a bit overwhelming. I do have plans for a later character who will likely fit in with the Silver Jedi, but I'll stick to the tradtional Republic for now, I think. Thanks!
