OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To update previous subs to new standards.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Thi-Rd
  • Origins: Sangral
  • Other Locations:
  • Classification: Algae
  • Average Growth Cycle: Adult 8~10 years
  • Viability: Temperate salt waters surface with sunlight and a chance to move around. Generally can go down to 5 feet below the surface but will not go down deeper or with higher pressures.
  • Description: Yellowish brown and floating in large clumps on the surface of the oceans of Sangral. TO facilitate its healing properties and uses the algae was transported and altered enough to be grown on several other worlds that would prove more effective to helping them. It is small unde the surface of the waters and hangs there while spread itself out in large beds that grow together.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Average Height: .22m
  • Average Length: 2m
  • Color: Brownish-Yellow color
  • Nutritional Value: To simple life on the planet it can provide some nutrition but for species it is a powerful mutagenic adapting to the species and accelerating their bodies healing while increasing the bodies immune system from sickness. WIth antibodies being able to form quickly when faced with dangerous pathogens.
  • Toxicity: N/A
  • Other Effects: [ Ingested, contact, other (explain). Does this plant have medicinal qualities? Side effects of use? ]
  • Distinctions:
    • Brownish-Yellow color
    • Grows in large clumps
Strengths:
  • Alginate: Usable from gelling agents in food to medical dressing giving it some use for creating healing supplies.
In food it is used to make jellies and jams with various fruits and ingredients. Allowing them to hold together with sugar and the water for storage and preserving them.
  • In medical supplies it is able to adapt to the body of the species using it. Similar to bota but in a way that increases the bodies natural healing on the microcellular level, it will produce antibodies to plagues and sickness quickly making it so the body can fight off the infection much faster. WIth the mutagenic properties it can allow murakami strains to have innoculations in the body or the technovirus by strengthening the cells produced in the body to resist conversion by the nanites and fighting them off.
Weaknesses:
  • Collects closest to Matika: The clumps of it as they float around eventually find their way to the massive creature clumping and wrapping around to stick in the hundreds of large teeth that are protruding around it.
  • Does not function for bioweapons
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Discovered by jedi teams on the world of Sangral the lack of life on the planet meant they were looking for other things. Simple organisms that would life on the planet and maybe have survived whatever it was that had killed the original inhabitants. The algae itself was discovered floating in the ocean and samples collected to see if there was more to it. Under a microscope it looks like any marine algae that might show up on any world with oceans and grows in large beds where it is interwoven together. From a scientific standpoint it is able to have alginate extracted from it that allows for a gelling property. This works good for patches where you want to smear healing liquid over the skin and not have it run. The cellular immobilization also works well for biotechnology where organic circuits need to be placed in gel packs. On the planet itself and around the small islands there is the ancient Matika a beast of the sea that the algae evewntually comes to. In large collections between the teeth almost like a forest bed that slowly supply food to the beast albeit at a basic level. Anything on the world that comes to look at the algae runs the risk of being eaten by the creature and slowly digested. THe years of study on Sangral have vastly improved the Silver jedi and Sasori's understanding of the algae and how it could be ussed in medical products as well as a replacement for the harder to find viable samples of bota. With its mutagenic properties it would allow them to have a sstrong base for healing meds that worked quickly.

Is this during a certain age in the Thi-rd's life cycle? How large can an 'exceptional' Thi-Rd get to if adequately taken care of?

Cultivation Requirements: Salt Water

Does it require any sunlight? If so how much, if not why not? How does the algae handle different depths/pressures or temperatures? I'll need some more detail here, right now it sounds like I could throw some algae in a boiling pan in the dark and it'll grow.

Alginates have a variety of ues, could you go into more detail on it's uses, applications, and the effectiveness of them? Furthermore Alginates are a major component in some very nasty bacteria and diseases, does this algae have any chemical weaponinization potential? If so how effective?

Matsu Ike said:
Biotechnology: Alginic acid has been used because of it is a biocompatible medium for cell encapsulation and immobilization.

I'll need further detail here on the Thi-Rd's intended biotechnological applications and effectiveness.

Average Life: The algae grows on the surface of the ocean and floats around until eaten. As it ages it loses the tightness of the clumps and drift apart being eaten by fish or just dissolving in the water from decay.
By the surface do you mean it literally floats around at the top of the ocean? Sangral doesn't have any species listed as inhabitants other than plant life, what fish are eating it? Why does it decay after some time? Are there any other positive or negative effects aging has on the Thi-Rd? What is the Thi-Rd's reproduction method? How does it interact with the Matika and other local flora? I'm going to need a lot more details here in general.

If it doesn't have any nutritional value why does it seem like the primary death method seem to be "eaten"? What would happen to say, a human, if they were to consume the Thi-Rd straight? Would it merely pass through them or would it cause them to get sick? I'll need to see the effects consumption has on common species.

To be honest I don't have a large problem with this history as it is. The planet is a dead relic, and non-sentient plant-life doesn't exactly need complex histories. However it(and the rest of this submission) seems to be contradictory to your intent.

Intent: To add some simple forms of life and to a world and give it extra purpose or interest while expanding its lore with something that is eaten by the other species.
Which, as I interpret it is something like "To give some interesting species and lore to explore on a user created planet." Which is a perfectly fine intent, but this submission reads as strictly bare bones. This honestly reads more like a material submission to fuel future biotechnology submissions rather than a species submission to fuel future roleplay.

Everything looks to be in order. Since I'm in training for the time being I'll need a second look over before we can you pending approval, and we'll have you all taken care of.
