FINAL DAWN
O'REEN, UNKNOWN REGIONS

Since the conclusion of the Second Great Hyperspace War, the Final Dawn had found itself in a dangerous situation, cornered by an increasingly powerful Galactic Alliance and possessing only a handful of allies amongst the remaining Mawite Warlords. While the resurgence of belligerent powers such as the Sith Order and Mandalorian Enclave and the fragmentation of the Old Empire provided the Final Dawn an opportunity to further consolidate its power and spread its influence simultaneously, the Final Dawn itself still lacked the ability to exercise its might freely across the Galaxy, especially now that they no longer had the protection and support of the Brotherhood of the Maw. With previous operations proving that most of the factions and organizations of the Galaxy viewed the Final Dawn with disdain, the Final Dawn needed a new method from which they could operate outside the Unknown Regions, far from the preying eyes of those who sought to undermine them.

That was where "The Unit" came in. Envisioned as a paramilitary intelligence organization that operated primarily under the Final Dawn, it was intended to solve the many issues that the Final Dawn was facing in regards to their ability to operate across the Galaxy by providing it with an clandestine organization that could act in their interests more openly while maintaining plausible deniability due to its separation from the traditional Final Dawn hierarchy. However before the Project could be launched, it's creator Dalton Chamas went MIA shortly after the Battle of Exegol, leaving the whole idea on hiatus until the High Regent of the Final Dawn could find a suitable replacement for the Late Chamas, who could effectively serve as the Head of this organization and act in the best interest of the Final Dawn without hesitation.

Among various candidates that had been considered, one stood out the most, a Mercenary by the name of Tibera Jessen, who had previously assisted the Final Dawn in their takeover of Schesa and had apparently also worked with the Empire of the Lost. Seeing some potential in Jessen, the High Regent of the Final Dawn, Marlon Sularen would move forth to invite her to his Palace on O'reen in order to formally recruit the Mercenary and convince them to join the newly revitalized project. If he succeeded, he would gain a valuable asset that could enable him to carry out his plans more quicklier and more efficiently, an asset that would play a key role in the Final Dawn’s inevitable ascension to the status of Great Power.

As he patiently awaited the arrival of Jessen, Sularen had installed himself within his personal office within the Grand O'reenian Palace, reviewing documents carefully prepared by his aide Colonel Rackham and the rest of his Personal Staff. Each document contained information regarding specific individuals, all of them having prior work in other Galactic Governments as Law Enforcement, Army, Navy and Intelligence specialists. These individuals had been considered as potential recruits for the Unit although at this point no effort had been made to recruit them, as the High Regent first sought to enlist the services of Tibera Jessen before moving forth to bring additional personnel to the team, that is if he was able to bring the mercenary into the fold.

In addition to having a list of potential recruits from which Tibera could pursue in order to recruit them into the Unit, should she accept Sularen’s Officer, SularenCo had also begun developing a new state-of-the-art flagship for the secretive organization having resumed working on the project once the High Regent had begun taking an active interest in it once more. There were many benefits that the Unit could provide to Tibera Jessen and it was imperative that the High Regent made the job as enticing as possible in order to increase the chances of Jessen joining him. Sularen considered this meeting one of uttermost importance and it was imperative that he impressed his guest in order to further sway them into joining his cause.

Thus, the High Regent would continue to wait. Hoping that Tibera Jessen would join him today for this very important summit.

Tibera was being lead down the palace halls by some of Sularen's personal guard. At request of the Final Dawn higher ups, the mercenary had removed their armored suit. Trading the hazard suit in favor of more formal garb. It felt strange not being safely encased in a few hundred pounds of durasteel and ceramics. Despite these feeling Tibera willingly gave over her armor, the last thing that she wanted was to ruin her deal with the proverbial Devil.

"You folks don't talk much do ya? Guess the brainwashing around here must be solid..."

She'd been trying for the past fifteen minutes to pry words from the troopers. They were either well trained, or well programmed. Each step towards the meeting room enlarged whatever mass must have been in Tibera's stomach. During her short time in the service of the Final Dawn, the woman had heard many story's about the High Regent. Almost none of them were flattering, meeting with him directly was akin to stumbling into a Sarlacc pit. That's what she'd been told anyway.

The message that told Tibera to come here was fairly boilerplate. Probably generated by some office drone far enough down the chain that they didn't know who Tibera was. It only revealed that her actions in recent operations had brought her under Sularen's eye. The worry of course was that she had offended the regent in some way. A truly horrible thing to do.

Finally, she reached the end of the hall. Elegant wooden doors stood in front of her, it felt surreal standing there. In her mind she was barely more than some punk bruiser that had lucked into the big leagues. She wasn't even thirty yet and still, she was about to meet with one of the galaxy's biggest players.

"Hope this doesn't suck..."

The Doors leading into the High Regent's office soon opened as the young Mercenary made her way inside. As the doors closed, Jessen would notice that she and the High Regent we're alone with only two Raptor Commandos standing outside the office. The office itself contained two large bookshelves containing data tapes and holobooks along with a small collection of artifacts Sularen had acquired throughout the Second Great Hyperspace War. Upon noticing that Jessen had entered his office, Sularen put aside his datapad and proceeded to greet her in a formal but cordial manner.

"Welcome, Miss Jessen. I hope your trip here was pleasant." the High Regent began. "Now please, take a seat." he said pointing at the chair that stood right in front of his desk. "We have much to discuss, and I'm sure there are things that you'd wish to know such as why I've summoned you here." Sularen said. Naturally, Sularen expected Tibera to be somewhat wary of his presence especially given his reputation, and as such presenting himself as a friendly individual would at the very least make her more comfortable, which would facilitate the talks that would occur here today.

What struck Tibera most about the office was just how normal everything was. She'd been in offices exactly like this one many a time, so why was this time so much different? Marlon seemed affable so far, especially given the rumors, and yet there was something in her head telling the merc not to trust him. Sularen had the striking eyes of a leader, someone who could cut a man down with words just as well as a sword, and that did a lot of work here.

"It was a damn sight more comfortable than my usual space trips. Your ships seem to have top of the line accommodations." She said before taking a seat in front of the High Regent's desk. Whether he was putting on airs or not, Tibera saw no reason to be hostile in the negotiations. So long as the other party kept his demeanor as it was, this would probably be the smoothest business discussion She'd had in a while. "Have to tell you, I was lead to believe I was headed into the lion's den when I got here. Glad to know they were exaggerating."

As the Mercenary sat down, she spoke about the comfortable accommodations provided by his vessels as well how glad she to know that the rumors that she was led to made to believe about her we're merely exaggerations. Upon hearing the mention of such rumors, Sularen simply sighed, even though the Mercenary was willing to talk with him, this statement alone stood as a grim reminder of the long road that lay ahead of the High Regent and the struggle he was facing. Regardless it was one he was willing to face, as the only alternative was to fade away into obscurity with all the hard work and effort, he put into his rise to power to be swept away by those who opposed him.

"I'm not surprised you we're told such falsehoods." Sularen said as he leaned back into his chair, speaking in a more reserved and authoritarian tone. "Since my exile from Byss, my foes have worked hard to dismantle my reputation, or at least what was left of it. From Core World Senators to Imperial Moffs to Sith and Jedi Lords, they have all conspired against me, seeking to undermine my efforts to reclaim what had been taken from me." Sularen added. "However, it's good to know that there are some people such as yourself who are willing to see through such lies instead of blindly following them even the truth is revealed to them."

Sularen then readjusted his position and clasped his hands on his desk before continuing to speak. "But enough about me. Let's talk about the real purpose of this meeting: you." Sularen proclaimed. "I've read the after-action report for the recent action at Schesa and it would seem many of my subordinates have been impressed by your actions there." the High Regent stated. "That being said, with you being a Mercenary i called you here with the sole purpose of presenting to you an offer, one that i believe you may find...enticing."

When Sularen started talking about her seeing through the lies instead of blindly following orders, it hit the mercenary like a punch to the gut. Blind loyalty was a sort of trademark for her. Ever since she was a child she'd been following someone's orders, be that her mother, her father, or some employer. Would her relationship with The High Regent be the same? Could she stand being some mindless killer any longer? That remained to be seen, but what the mercenary did know was that was in the big leagues now. No more small patrols and security details, that was for certain.

"Sounds like the whole galaxy is against you? Can't say I envy that. Though it must be exciting, being the High Regent and being able to command such a large group." Tibera paused at that, taking in just what she'd said. It sounded so childish, so sheltered, of course it was exciting. It was clear to even a casual observe that she was second guessing herself. "You said you had an offer for me? Well, after the last operation went so well I'd be a fool to not at least hear you out."

Calling the operation on Schesa "good" was being especially generous. Tibera's force was little more than cannon fodder to be thrown at enemy positions. However, the mercenary had a very skewed definition of a successful operation. That being any battle one walks away from is at least partially a victory. By that metric the bloody conflict on the ruined world was very much a success, though one that required much blood be spilt on both sides. In thinking of this, Tib wondered who exactly she impressed, and more importantly how. Something she may have to ask about later.

Sularen couldn't help but notice Jessen's statement at how exciting it was being at the helm of a considerably large regional power that possessed numerous enemies both big and small. It was true the Final Dawn was in such a unique situation but to say it was exciting was an overstatement, considering the current position it currently found itself in, cornered in the Unknown Regions with limited allies and resources and no means to effectively challenge most of it's foes who continued to undermine it's efforts to further expand it's reach across the galaxy. While many would question whether Sularen and the Final Dawn would even see a hint of success, the High Regent was patient and optimistic, keeping on to the hope that better days we're ahead, where he would no longer be marginalized as an individual once and for all.

"I wouldn't call it exciting to say the least. It's quite rough running such a group in a region with limited resources and assets especially so close to a major galactic superpower such as the Galactic Alliance. A very complex operation that relies on ignorance of our enemies and the efficiency of our own assets to even have any chance at success." Sularen responded. "This of-course brings me to my offer. As i've already hinted at before, i have alot of enemies which makes it hard for the Final Dawn to operate across the galaxy without facing any significant opposition from any group of interest that has some degree of contempt towards us." the High Regent began. "As such, me and a few of my subordinates have devised a plan to circumvent this issue and as part of this plan, we'd like make use of your services, with proper compensation of-course."

Now the pieces were starting to fall into place, Marlon wanted her to be a part of his newest project. One that would no doubt see her clashing with the various powers that threatened the Final dawn. That would take a lot of thinking on Tibera's part, as to whether or not to take the extended job. On the one hand it might actually be safer than working with the Empire in some regards. These operations would be much smaller scale, and have fewer combatants ideally. On the other hand, it was a deal with a man known for making enemies with some powerful people. If she ran afoul of the wrong parties, it could mean a jail cell at best, a closed casket at worst.

"So you want me to lead these operators of yours in some behind closed doors operations? Gotta say it's a pretty sweet deal, obviously dangerous, but a sweet deal nonetheless. You're lucky I have such expensive tastes, a contract like this could keep me in good wine the rest of my life." Tibera figured Marlon might enjoy her confidence when it came to the matter.

Tibera idly spun a pen in her off hand, considering her options in the negotiations. Her benefactor had almost infinite capital to throw around, and the kind of power you didn't just say no to. He also had no end of enemies for Tibera to fight, which was always good for a mercenary. Truly, the key here was that she was more greedy than she was smart. Dangling enough credits in front of her could make Tibera do just about anything.

"Tell me about some of these enemies of yours Marlon. Who exactly would the first target for this force be? I've got no illusions that you haven't already plotted out a trial run to see if this whole idea of yours is gonna work."

So far it would seem that Tibera was interested in partaking in Sularen's project, going as far as to further inquire on which rivals would she be targeting while operating at the helm of the Regent's project. Her performance at Schesa and her enthusiasm for the Regent's Project did indicate that she could prove to be a valuable ally in Sularen's quest to rise to power and further challenge his long time rivals in the Core Worlds and Outer Rim that had long undermined him. In addition to this, given the way in which this "project" had been conceived, his rivals and enemies would have no idea that their demise would have been orchestrated by Sularen, although as Jessen had already outlined a trial run to determine whether Sularen's project could work out or not was necessary in order to further advance the Regent's ambitions.

"For the time being, we don't have a fixed target." Sularen began. "Although we have identified numerous possible threats that we intend on tackling in the near-future through covert action whether that be through our own special forces or the contractors that you will be leading. However what i can say is that some of the people you'll be confronting will include rival special forces units and even skilled force-users mostly aligned with the Galactic Alliance.
"

"I should also add that most of the missions you'll be tasked with will be high risk missions given at how the purpose of this force is to advance the specific goals of the Final Dawn without leaving any traces behind that can lead back to us, plausible deniability essentially. I hope this isn't a problem for you as i wish to know that my employers are comfortable when carrying out such tasks with these conditions at my behest."

Things were going oh so well until Sularen mentioned she'd be fight against Jedi. Her eyes became wide as saucers, she was completely incredulous at the idea. Much of the enthusiasm she had was sapped at the thought of tussling with saber wielding mystics. Her only experience with the force and its followers was with Tella and Jeggy back in the scrap on Mon Calamari. In that time she'd realized just how limited her ability was in the grand scheme of things.

However what i can say is that some of the people you'll be confronting will include rival special forces units and even skilled force-users mostly aligned with the Galactic Alliance.

"Now hold on a second there Boss. You think I've got what it takes to bring down a Jedi? I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I'm just one woman, and those Jedi are thicker than jungle ticks. You gut one of them, and you'll have a whole gang of saber swingers on you in no time." If there were any doubts on if she was in over her head or not, they had now been completely removed. This didn't necessarily mean she wasn't going to sign the contract, only that her rates had just drastically increased.

"You'll definitely want some heavy hitters. I've got a few contact around the galaxy that can help us make your project a reality. Shooters from different guilds and clans that will work for you, if you can make the pot sweet enough. Given those big fleets the Final Dawn is known for, that shouldn't be too hard to do. You'd be surprised how many people will throw themselves to the wolves in order to make rent."

While mercenaries were a dime a dozen across the stars, few could meet the exacting standards of the High Regent. Of course Tibera could think of a few war dogs similar to herself in skill and willingness. They wouldn't be the cheapest force of mercenaries ever hired, but they'd damn well be able to put a dent in that long list of enemies that Marlon had.

"Once we handle the fine details I can earmark a few of the better candidates for your people to interview. A couple though, it'll better for me to meet with them in person. Wouldn't want to send your boys all the way to Togoria just to get snubbed you know what I mean?"

Sularen raised his eyebrow at the mention of contacts whom could assist him in taking down the Jedi. It was quite interesting to see Jessen's reaction to his statement about potentially going up against the Jedi, although then again it wasn't unexpected. The New Jedi Order had stood up against some of the greatest threats the galaxy had faced and had emerged victorious every time. They we're a lethal force capable of toppling Empires with many individuals having had attempted to bring them down and eliminate the threat they posed only to be defeated with the most notable being Darth Solipsis, Sularen's former Sith Overlord within the Maw.

Unlike those who came before him, Sularen would not be guided by bold confidence and hubris, but instead would move against his foes with calculated and precisive moves
aimed at incapacitating them and hinder their ability to respond. The Project he and his subordinates had conceived, known simply as The "Unit" was one of the many countermeasures envisioned by the High Regent as a response to the growing threat he faced with Tibera Jessen being one of the candidates to take the helm of the project in the absence of it's creator. Already her input here and her previous display of skill and abilities at Schesa proved that she could be a capable leader, elevating the Unit from an obscure group into a lethal force that could one day bring concern to the New Jedi Order.

"I can assure you Miss Jessen, i am well aware of the true capabilities of the Jedi and the risks that come with challenging them. After all i did witness their true might and capabilities during the late stages of the war, especially at Exegol. Although i must say i am quite intrigued to know more about these 'contact's at your disposal, as i was planning on giving you my own list of candidates whom could potentially join us with this operation, some of them even having some combat experience against Force-Users which could come in handy. But then again, this will still enable us to gather more skilled individuals into our operation, which only increase the odds of success in the future."

"I guess it's rude of me to assume I know better than you on this one, High Regent. I just get a little concerned at the idea of taking on those crazy mystics in the GA. Even on the little rock I was born on, we heard stories from the war, and all the craziness that came with it. But, if you're saying that you've got it all well in hand, then I have no reason not to trust you."

One could argue that Tibera had many reasons not to trust Sularen, chief among them being his tactics regarding mercenaries such as herself. However, saying something like that would assuredly come with dire consequences. Last thing she wanted was to end up on that growing list of Marlon's enemies. She sat back and considered everything. This wasn't just about money, she knew that from how keen Marlon was on emphasizing the payment. In fact, she was sure money was something the High Regent cared relatively little about. This was about power and influence, the currency of politicians and royals.

"I do get the feeling there's probably going to be a few strings attached to all these credits, but I'm in. I'll look over who you have lined up whenever you want me too, boss..." She let that last word hang in the air a moment. Calling Marlon boss almost seemed novel in a sense, it wasn't like he lacked for fancy titles. He was a veteran of countless conflicts, and a former member of one the greatest powers in the galaxy. Now he was called something banal by a lowly corporal. There was a certain degree of humor to it, hopefully that wouldn't be lost on the High Regent. "Maybe once we get a few missions under our belts I can get an upgrade to my armor. Something that'll keep me from getting chopped up by the marks."

"I wouldn't call it rude. After all, your concerns are perfectly justifiable as the New Jedi Order are a tough nut to crack given their triumphs over every major threat that has emerged to challenge them. As you said earlier, going after a single member of the New Jedi Order will trigger a response from more Jedi depending on the severity of the situation. However as someone once told me in order to effectively project your power you have to wield it like a surgical knife, striking at your foes with absolute precision through extensive planning. Although i must add that i do not seek the destruction of the New Jedi Order, but rather instead i seek to remove their presence in the Unknown Regions and eliminate the threat they pose to both the Final Dawn and other Mawite Remnants."

Sularen didn't blame Tibera for having some concerns and doubts about working underneath him. After all, a previous mercenary who had been employed by Sularen ended up leaving for a similar reason when faced with the possibility of fighting other Mawites in the event of a potential civil war between Sith Loyalists and the Tribes. Ensuring Tibera's loyalty outside of the benefit of the pay would be vital to ensure the success of the High Regent's plans although given the current circumstances there was no need to press Tibera in regards to that matter as it seemed like she was willing to take up Sularen's offer. Whether she would stick with the High Regent or not, would depend on the outcome of the future missions Sularen would assign to her.

"In regards to the list of candidates for this Operation, i'll refer you to my personal aide, Rackham. He will provide you with all necessary information regarding these candidates and if you don't mind i would prefer if he joined you in interviewing the candidates." Sularen said, shrugging off how Jessen called him "Boss", which did not bother him that much as Mercenaries whom he employed tended to use more simpler terms to address him rather then the fancy words his subordinates within the Final Dawn used such as "My Lord" and "Your Excellency". "As for upgrading your armor, i'm sure i can make a few arrangements to provide you with high-quality armor which could come in handy when facing Force-Users in the near-future. In addition to some new armor, i could also provide you with new equipment including weapons that could prove to be very effective against the Jedi."

If Sularen was looking for a scalpel, he'd end up getting a sledgehammer. Given her past track record, the High Regent would need to micromanage her a bit more than other mercs he'd employed. Not doing so might lead to some messy situations politically. Tibera knew little about the Maw or The Second Great Hyperspace War. Her tiny asteroid colony was largely unaffected by the conflict. Most she had heard about it from older mercenaries who had been former Galactic Alliance soldiers. All that told her was that anyone from the Maw was dangerous, but Sularen didn't seem quite the monster that GA soldiers might have once thought.

"Sounds like a plan then, I'll be more than happy to look over any intel you have on the potential recruits. Staffing is a job that I'm pretty new at, but I can tell a good shooter from a bad one pretty easily. If they got this far into selection then they can't just be kids off the street with black market blasters," Tibera stopped for a moment, realizing she was rambling. "Right, I'm ready to meet Rackham whenever you are want me to."

Meetings were the only part of the life that she never got used to. It was almost easier for her to do the fighting part of the job, at least then she knew what she was doing half the time. She gave a sigh and popped her neck from one side to the other, trying to rid herself of some of the anxiety. One thing she thought about was who Rackham was, he had to be Marlon's right hand. Only some one high on the chain would be allowed to know about The Unit, she thought.

"So you said something about Mawite Remnants, that mean there's more of The Maw left out there? You got some kind of allies we can call on if things get hairy? Not that I have any plans on doing anything reckless, just it'd be nice to know we'll be able to go to ground if we get in over our heads."

"Indeed. While the Galactic Alliance is under the impression that only small groups of Mawite Raiders and Marauders are all that remains, there actually numerous larger and well organized Mawite remnants out there. Although what i can say is that the Alliance did me a favor by eliminating most of the more troublesome Mawites at Exegol. I've already had the privilege of meeting some of the remaining Mawite Warlords and i can say that they are quite reasonable, less prone to the mindless violence that the Marauder Tribes once engaged in throughout the Second Great Hyperspace War." Sularen responded.

Sularen had already managed to establish contact with other Mawite Warlords such as Onrai, Max Sinn and Thomas Barran, although to this point little effort had been made to establish a single united front amongst the Mawite Warlords, or coordinate future operations with them. It was true that gaining their support would help the Final Dawn accomplish it's own goals, however Sularen knew too well the selfish nature of the other Mawite Warlords. The only way they would agree to support the Final Dawn is if they got something to gain themselves, something that would bring them closer to their own goals, and that alone would further complicate any effort of establishing a united front amongst Mawites.

"For now, we only have one major Mawite remnant on our side whose support we can truly rely on. However, there are other active Mawite remnants out there, whom my spies have been keeping track of in recent times. In time i can establish contact with them although there are some Warlords whom it will take much convincing in order to get their full support. After all, assembling a coalition of Mawite remnants has always been on my Post-Exegol to-do list"

Sounded like Sularen had big plans, plans on getting the band back together as it were. That meant some big trouble for the Galaxy as a whole, but good news for a mercenary like Tibera. If Sularen wasn't just puffing smoke, then it meant big things were on the rise. Which usually meant an equally big payday. All she had to do was survive long enough to see those hard earned credits. So long as Marlon had a bundle of creds to dangle in front of her, he'd have a loyal soldier to do the Final Dawn's dirty work.

"Maybe once you start crossing out a few enemies of The Maw, the other warlords will start to fall in line. People respect action, sure they'll see you as the real deal once you start settling accounts. Though I gotta say, all of this working in the dark is a little new for me. I tend to leave a lot of collateral damage when I do a job. You going to be okay if these black ops of yours end up going loud?"

It was a little exaggerated, to be sure, but it wasn't wholly inaccurate either. Tibera had a bit of a history of leaving bodies in her wake even on her most low-key of operations. Then again, maybe that's exactly why she was chosen? Having a sort of enforcer that could leave one's opponents bloodied and broken might actually do well for some one like him. It would certainly go far in making sure no one crossed him again.

Sularen was intrigued by the mention of collateral damage by Tibera Jessen. Of-course such things we're to be expected by the type of work she was about to embark in, as some missions would be impossible to accomplish if extreme care had to be taken regarding civilians. Regardless, to Sularen the means did not matter, as long as it brought him closer to his ultimate objective. Even if Tibera was not used to dark ops, with her experience was a mercenary and her performance at Scehsa would be sufficient to make her adapt quickly to these new circumstances.

"You are right about the Warlords. Taking action against our enemies will most certainly be enough to secure their support. I've always tried to do so during the war, especially after Tython when the New Jedi Order was running circles around the Maw." Sularen responded, before letting out a somewhat regretful sigh. "Back then, i was held back by the bitter infighting within the Maw as well as a prioritization on the war effort, wasting resources on pointless invasions that brought us nowhere" Sularen added before pausing for a while. After a few seconds, he then resumed speaking. "As for collateral damage, i honestly don't care about how loud the Unit ends up being. As long as it cannot be traced back to me and proves to be an effective asset in advancing the overall goals of the Final Dawn, the specific methods you utilize are of no concern to me. You know what some people say, the ends justify the means"

Sularen wished that he had been able to implement this idea during the war. Maybe then things could have turned out differently, maybe then he would have been able to counter the numerous Jedi incursions within Mawite Space and even target some of the people who had wronged him. Even though the current collapse of the Maw had provided him with numerous new opportunities to increase his power and expand his reach, sometimes Sularen felt that his participation in the Second Great Hyperspace War was all for nothing, having failed to either conquer the Core Worlds or even get he long-desired retribution against all who wronged him, instead making new rivals along the way.

However if this project proved to be successful, then maybe, just maybe he could finally correct all these mistakes, undo the consequences of his miscalculations that led to him being isolated here in the Unknown Regions and finally rise to power and claim what had long been denied from him for the past two decades. It was going to take alot of work and effort, but it could be accomplished as long as everything went as planned.

"So, Miss Jessen. How soon do you think you can gather these candidates of yours for the upcoming interview?"
