OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: Thornwood Hall
  • Classification: Castle/Manor
  • Location: Province of Ardentia, Eliad
  • Affiliation: Arcturus Dinn | Rhiannon Dinn
  • Accessibility: Located in a remote area, Thornwood is far from any major cities and walled off from the rest of the world. Security is tight and visitors will need to gain permission to enter. The castle is accessible via starship or on the ground through the front gates.
  • Description: Thornwood Hall is a castle constructed on a mountain overlooking the village of Vortigern, the only significant settlement in a largely rural demesne. As such, it is the tallest structure in the region and clearly visible even at a great distance. Originally built as the private residence of the noble House Edevane, it remained in the family for generations... until the last surviving member was slaughtered by the Sith for refusing to bend the knee. The new monarch of Eliad, Darth Xyrah, then gifted the property and holdings to Arcturus and Rhiannon Dinn. Thornwood features formal gardens, conservatories, and other structures in addition to the castle proper.
POINTS OF INTEREST

Entrance Hall

A large foyer constructed from black marble and accented with gold, this is where guests would typically be received. A grand staircase leads up to the second floor. There is also a lift which can provide access to the rest of the building, though some areas are restricted.

Fan-shaped lights guide the way to the dining hall, where guests are served their meals at a large and sumptuous table surrounded by potted plants. A smaller, more intimate dining room with a view of the gardens is reserved for the family's everyday use.

Great Library

Apart from the private collections found in other rooms, the Great Library is several stories tall and chock full of books, scrolls, and other data-storing technologies. The Great Library also includes a private museum where artifacts and other oddities are stored.

Guest Rooms

The guest rooms are numerous and can rival even the master bedroom in luxuries and comfort.

Master Bedchamber - The lavish bedchambers of the Lord and Lady of Thornwood Hall feature a private bath and a walk-in wardrobe. The walls are decorated with tapestries, and the large four-poster bed is covered by a canopy.

Marcus' Bedroom - The room of Marcus Dinn is located in a tower just down the hall from the master bedroom, and as such has a circular shape. It is frequently messy, with items such as toys and clothes left scattered across the floor by its young occupant. The walls are lined with shelves containing books and trinkets. A workbench which Marcus uses to take apart and construct mechanical objects sits in the corner alongside a desk filled with sketches of projects, doodles, and unfinished homework.

Eloise's Bedroom - Eloise's bedroom is in another circular tower on the opposite side of the building, though still just down the hall from her parents' room. It is kept much neater than Marcus' quarters... or so it would seem. Opening the closet door is not recommended, as everything she shoved inside will come tumbling out. Stuffed animals cover the unmade bed, and the child-sized toy vanity is often populated by genuine jewelry, perfume bottles, and other cosmetics Eloise filched from her mother's boudoir. The room has a balcony which overlooks the gardens.

Alchemy Lab

Used by both Arcturus and Rhiannon to study and practice alchemy. The door is kept locked at all times and can only be accessed by them.

Training Room/Armory

A section of the building is reserved for the storage of armor, weapons, and other gear, as well as a training room to practice various forms of physical exercise and combat.

Attic

Within the roof is an attic which is used for storage. The children have turned part of it into a hideout with a cozy atmosphere.

Landing Pads - Thornwood Hall has several landing pads available for starships of varying sizes.

Secret Passages - Various rooms of the castle feature secret passages to allow the inhabitants to escape the premises in the event of an attack. The passages are underground and lead out through the mountains.

Mausoleum - A family mausoleum is located on the property, containing the remains of several generations of House Edevane. The mausoleum is an exquisitely carved monument of white marble, adorned with lifelike stone statues of the deceased. A small shrine inside the tomb indicates that the family may have practiced a form of ancestor worship.

Pool - An indoor pool and hot tub can be found in the castle, where it can be used year round.

The Gardens

Thornwood's grounds are landscaped, with many areas cultivated into well-kept gardens. Water-loving plants grow along the banks of two ponds. A gazebo overlooks the lower pond, while a pavilion sits on a small island in the upper pond, accessible via a stone pathway. Also nearby is a greenhouse in which fresh produce is grown year round to feed the household.

SECURITY
High
- Thornwood Hall is constructed to be able to withstand any form of attack, up to and including orbital bombardment. The property is surrounded by a reinforced wall, with hidden turrets and anti-aircraft guns to shoot down any airborne threats. In addition to security cameras posted around the perimeter, guards patrol the estate at all times.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

"In return for your aid in looking after the boy, I would quite happily grant you and your lovely wife titles and land of your own on Eliad. Given we removed quite a few traitorous noble houses from existence, their holdings, people and wealth are mine to redistribute, and I am eager to place Sith with good sense into such positions. I trust such would interest you both?" - Darth Xyrah

House Edevane, a noble family exiled to Eliad, took control of the province of Ardentia and built Thornwood Hall at some point prior to the Gulag Era. They retained the territory for centuries until the Sith came to Eliad. At that point the current ruler of Ardentia was Lord Torin Edevane, a childless bachelor with a reputation for being an eccentric hermit. He was among those nobles who refused to submit to Sith rule, and as a result he was killed along with the others. Since he had no heirs, his death effectively ended the Edevane line which had propagated for centuries, leaving Ardentia without a lord or a lady.

That is, until the new Sith monarch of Eliad, Darth Xyrah, gifted all of the late Lord Torin's property to Arcturus and Rhiannon Dinn, who had convinced the young Lord Pharus Dystra (ruler of the neighboring province of Genovia). The largely rural and undeveloped Ardentia suited the family's desire for a safe and healthy environment in which to raise their children, while also carrying the promise of untapped potential.
