Designed based on the programming of library droids and analytical A.I.s used in previous eras, coupled together with full systems management, heuristic learning programming, and strategic / tactical planning sub-routines, Thoth represents the ideal A.I. for management of starships, government facilities, or similar systems. Able to provide detailed analysis and extrapolations from tremendous volumes of data quickly, Thoth is a valuable advisor and assistant. However, a strange and unidentified glitch in its personality matriz causes it to become condescending, offensive, petty, or even argumentative at times, and while it will not do so in an emergency, outside of these circumstances Thoth can be awfully trying at times. Still, despite this flaw, Thoth is an excellent tool for commanders and operators.
Able to proficiently manage and command an entire starship for extended periods of time, including navigation, shipboard operations, even combat maneuvers and tactics, and assume full supervisory command and control over automated systems and even droids on board, a starship directed by Thoth will perform nothing short of impressively. In addition, Thoth has a failsafe which allows it to become disengaged and ‘seal’ the systems as it departs, locking them down entirely. In the case of a starship, it shuts the entire thing down – including life support, artificial gravity, all of it. Bypassing the viral security is arduous and impossible for all but the most talented slicers, and even then it may take several days or even weeks to regain full control. If not reintegrated into those systems following an emergency disengagement within 24 hours, the virus destroys the data stored in those systems and renders them permanently inoperable.
STRENGTHS:
- Special failsafe allows users to disengage Thoth from whichever systems it is currently integrated with, triggering a virus which prevents slicing and renders those systems temporarily inoperable. After 24 hours without reintegration, the virus destroys the systems and data contained therein permanently.
- Provides excellent managerial powers over various systems, enhancing efficiency and supervising operations and functions autonomously or else as directed by authorized users.
- Portable, Thoth can be carried and reintegrated into new ships, vehicles, systems, or facilities at will. Thoth cannot be disengaged except by users with the correct command codes, nor can it be reintegrated without them.
- Thoth’s portability does not include data provided to it, for instance if Thoth is integrated to command and control over a starship, it does not retain data stored in the ship’s computers when removed, only seals it temporarily and destroys it if not reintegrated within 24 hours.
- Thoth cannot interact with the world beyond the confines and limitations of its ability to interface with various systems.
- Thoth is vulnerable to EMP, Ion, and electrical surges like any set of electronics. If a system which it is integrated with is hit, Thoth will be knocked out of that system and will have to access the system once more when it has finished rebooting. If Thoth is hit directly, it will shut down and must reboot fully before being operational again, and will not retain data it has received since its last scheduled backup.
- A glitch in Thoth’s personality programming has left it with some interesting qualities. Namely, Thoth is neither pleasant nor overly respectful and can at times be argumentative, sarcastic, and even offensive towards users. While this does not countermand its obedience to authorized users and their commands, particularly in emergency situations, this does pose a problem at less crucial times and sometimes brings on delays when asking questions, etc. as it is just as likely to be frustrating and contrary as it is to not. When doing an intelligence analysis, for example, if it is not an emergency or there is no sense of urgency, it may argue with a user, become haughty or non-responsive, or make caustic or demeaning comments before completing the task.
