Thoughts on the use of a Canon Character's image?

So i have recently returned from a hiatus (which i started not long after i joined) and i want to seriously revamp this character.
I have a character image in mind. The problem is that the character is a canon character from the movies.

I just wanted to know the rules and thoughts on using a canon character's image!
Is it allowed? is it frowned upon?

My character Sor-Jan Xantha used Jake Lloyd from Episode I as his play-by for years. I've never gotten a negative comment about it.

I probably wouldn't use Mark Hamil or Harrison Ford, but I'm pretty sure I've seen variations/photoshopped versions of Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman on the board as well. Not to mention a couple of re-colored Aayla Secula.

You say that but we have 1,000 Boba Fett playbys and a literal Darth Vader.

Use whatever, don't apologize.

Chaos prides itself on being a Sandbox. As long as you aren't writing the canon character in all but name, you're golden.

Go nuts :D :p

Almost all use of canon characters will bring you ridicule behind closed doors, but there's nothing outright stopping you from doing it. I would personally advise avoiding it, but go with whatever strikes your muse and forget the haters.

Well it also partly depends on species.

No one will really give you a hard time if your species is canon, but rare, with very few good pictures to choose from. I don't think anyone will give you (much) crap if your toydarian, for instance, is Watto's image, or your Hutt is Jabba's. Rodian, Twi'lek, Togruta, etc. are more commonplace but still not the worst thing ever. Humans? Well you might get a few snickers or dirty looks but ultimately it's still your choice.

Personally I don't care so long as you're not straight up reusing canon characters with a fancy name to play smoke and mirrors with me. *shrug* You do you.

I feel uncomfortable about it.

The reason why they look the way the look is for the sake of identity and uniquity. Reusing a canon characters' design or anyone else using the same faceclaim images kinda breaks the immersion and makes them look like clones of said character.

It bugs me allot. I mean, I'd understand if it's race or clone or droid that is based off a type of person, but if they aren't that, then that's danger territory for me.

Now if it's a character that is in the background or something, that's 100% cool with me.

As long as it's not carbon copy / rip off the original character and all you're using is the image. Have at it and have fun.

You run into danger zone when you use the image, use the complete name, and then base a bio off of the canon character.

Have fun and cause chaos!
