First and foremost a Holding Company with its primary focus on the development and financial backing of new companies and subsidiaries within the newly established Thrune name. Though its primary orientation is that of a holding company - additional operations - permit it to operate with a wider purview. Utilizing its subsidiary - Zaibatsu Banking - it offers additional services such as financial services, providing insurance and acting as an investment company. Generally benevolent in their dealings, its primary focus is the continued success and expansion of the various Thrune founded, acquired and owned corporations and subsidiaries that will eventually be brought under its umbrella.

Originally Founded by Amelia Sorenn-Syrush - taking advantage of the lucrative corporate tax laws and what in effect can be called the reign of capitalism in Collective Space - the Sorenn-Syrush Zaibatsu was formed for a very specific need. Its foundation was to provide an umbrella holding company under which all other Sorenn-Syrush corporations or those companies and subsidiaries affiliated with Sorenn-Syrush could be held. This means that in effect, the company is first and foremost a holding corporation established to keep the interest of the Sorenn-Syrush Dynasty in all companies held by the family. Its establishment is done through the use of financial means - both from the family coffers as well as profit from various contracts held by SSI - for the sole purpose of funding additional business ventures.
Since the death of Amelia Sorenn-Syrush and the fall of House Sorenn-Syrush - many of their former corporation holdings have been rapidly seized and consolidated by the newly risen (colloquially known) Thrice Damned House of Thrune - otherwise simply known as House Thrune. In a bid to further remove the name, House Thrune has begun to rename many of the formerly held Sorenn-Syrush companies by adding the Thrune name in their place.
