- Fighter-Fortress: The TIE/RBFO is a heavily armed starfighter that possesses the ability to deal serious damage to capital class vessels while also retaining good anti-fighter capabilities. At maximum armament, the craft can carry a load of twelve warheads and four charges of plasma torpedoes.
- Survivability and Defense: Featuring a robust triple-phase shield system and a Quadranium-reinforced hull, the TIE/RBFO is a resilient craft with the ability to absorb a great deal of punishment without compromising its systems. The shields can absorb ~7 shots from starfighter-grade cannons (slug, maser, laser, energy, kinetic, Etc.) or ~2-3 shots from a low to medium-power capital ship-grade cannon or ~2-3 starfighter-grade missiles and torpedoes (concussion, cluster, Etc.) before failing and needing to execute a recharge sequence. After failure, it takes 8 seconds for the shields to recharge back to full strength.
- Battlespace Awareness: A powerful sensor suite grants the pilot of the TIE/RBFO superior awareness of their surroundings in a given battlespace. This feature is intended to encourage pilot survivability, especially given the First Order's scarcity of skilled pilots after the invasion of the Ssi-ruuk.
- Unbalanced Profile: The TIE/RBFO's has an unbalanced physical profile which can presents many inherent difficulties in maneuvering the craft. In atmosphere, the effects of the craft's profile are even more apparent, especially when the shields are not reshaped into a more aerodynamic profile. However, the engineers took care to balance the weight distribution on both sides of the craft in order to minimize issues.
- Perfunctory Hyperdrive: The small and low-range hyperdrive featured on the TIE/RBFO is only intended to help pilots retreat from failed engagements when their craft's host vessels are either destroyed or they are unable to return to them due to the circumstances of the battle. In essence, the hyperdrive is typically meant to be utilized in a defensive capacity and is only suitable for offensive usage in a few limited contexts.
- Power-Intensive: The TIE/RBFO is not a suitable craft for extended engagements. The use of solar ionization weaponry saps power faster than it can be absorbed via the solar collection arrays. As such, typical engagements that last longer than an hour or that involve heavy usage of the solar ionization cannons put the pilot at risk of the craft going into hibernation mode to conserve energy and recharge power. Fortunately, the pilot can track power levels through the HUD.
