To Interview a Shadow

Very shortly after being knighted, Jairdain was made aware more students were looking for training. After looking through the files, one name seemed to call to her. That of [member="Tschov Bolyn"]. She was a few years her senor, but had very little formal training. The file said she was likely destined to be a shadow, more likely to be Force oriented than highly combatant. While the young knight knew some basics in fighting with a lightsaber it was far from her greatest strength, that of using the Force.

Feeling the Force was guiding her, Jairdain sent the woman a message requesting her to meet up in the central atrium of the newly founded Jedi Temple on Ession. She wore her traditional garb and green cloak. Her lightsaber was at her side, still gleaming from being so newly constructed. She sat at one of the various tables there and waited for the new padawan to appear. While she was physically blind, she used the Force to see with and had exceptional hearing.

In front of her on the table was the datapad containing the information on file about Tschov and Jairdain hoped to add more to it after today. This day was going to be more of an interview than actual training. They needed to get a feel for one another and then if meshed, training would begin soon after. Jairdain knew she couldn't rush things, but she was young and clearly showed she was excited at this prospect.

It'd been some time since Tschov had received any formal instruction. A good century, at least. It was well past time to continue learning, to expand her abilities, especially in the light of this new so-called ability. The Anzati was still unsure about this whole Force thing, never really believing the stories until her first encounter with a Jedi. And even then, she remained a skeptic to its power.

She'd be lying if she said she wasn't surprised to receive a message from a knight. It'd come sooner than expected, granted, Tschov was far from used to the inhabitants of the temple to get a real judge on them. No matter, the message was nevertheless a good sign. Clothed in her typical dark and nondescript, she moved to the agreed meeting area, keeping close to walls and out of sight, moving stealthily regardless of being among supposed allies.

Finding the knight wasn't too terribly hard. Still keeping out of plain view, Tschov continued until she was a few feet from the other, giving her a once over before speaking. "Are you the one who wanted a meeting?"

Through the Force, Jairdain saw when the young shadow to be walked into the atrium. She would have to learn how to hide herself better with the Force if she was going to sneak up on Jairdain. The woman skirted along the edge of the room, coming behind the knight. While all the people here were allies and friendly to Jedi, she could sense the trepidation coming from [member="Tschov Bolyn"] as she walked over to her.

Deciding not to react like the woman startled her (which she had not), Jairdain turns her head and nods to the woman. With a smile, she motions to the chair across from her.

"Please have a seat. I am Jairdain Ismet, but Jera or Jairdain is fine. I'm not what you would consider a formal person."

Her voice is friendly and she stood up when she introduced herself.

Tschov was slow to react, observing [member="Jairdain"] for whatever information she could get. Her skills must have been getting rusty in complacency. She drifted to the chair indicated, remaining standing for introductions. Head tilting a bit to the side as the knight introduced herself, briefly considering attempting a smile of her own before deciding in favor of a more natural, neutral expression.

"Tschov Bolyn, though I gather you're already well aware of that." Her voice wasn't entirely void of warmth, the lower octaves tilting up in intrigue. "Mind telling me what exactly this is about?" If the knight was considering her as an apprentice, she had her undivided attention. If not, she'd rather not waste the time.

Siting back down, Jairdain observed how [member="Tschov Bolyn"] reacted to her. The fact she was unable to surprise the knight was obvious to Jairdain. Through the Force, she could see the aura of the woman now in front of her.

"Yes, though hearing you say it, gives me a little more to go on."

Tapping the table for a moment, Jairdain looks across at Tschov and nods her head at the question.

"I'm considering taking on a padawan and I looked through the list and wanted to meet you before I made my decision.
This says your skill set may be quite close to mine.
Before we go much further I want you to read my personal information and see if you think we would be a good fit."

She lightly tapped the pad on the table and would offer it to Tschov if she wanted to look through it.

Slipping into her own seat, Tschov continued her observations of [member="Jairdain"], trying to get a feel for who she was even with the lack of interaction so far. Was she..blind?

As the human continued, Tschov grew more intrigued, lapsing into an attentive silence that could nearly be deemed her trademark. At mention of her apparent documented skill set, she nearly scoffed aloud. "And just what records do they have on me?" She wondered, partially hoping the comment wouldn't be taken as offensive, more so not being bothered to care.

She scanned over the information, making mental notes of what seemed important. "You have skills, that's no doubt. Skills I'd like to learn."

The file stated everything Jairdain had submitted herself as well as others observations of her.

It stated she knew the basics of the lightsaber forms, but excelled in the actual usage of force skills. Two of her strongest being empathy and telepathy.

"You're welcome to look and see what the file says on you if you really wish to."

Leaving it up to [member="Tschov Bolyn"] to decide if she wanted to look.

Giving the woman the time to look over anything else on pad, Jairdain got a better read on her. This woman was a hunter, one that could use the force to sneak up her target...whoever it may be. Also maybe a bit of a loner, preferring to be alone more often than with other people. If she chose to be with others then it was because they each had something to offer the other.

Tschov broke the calm silence between them after looking Jairdain's file and stated she would indeed be interested in learning what she could.

At this, the young Jedi Knight gave her first Padawan a real smile. It lit her face up and even if Tschov didn't want to return the smile, she would feel the joy emanating off Jairdain.

Personally, Tschov cared little for skills regarding empathy. It wasn't, nor would it ever be, her strong suit, not to mention she hardly saw the point in having such a skill when there were far more useful things to master. Telepathy, however, now that had her interest. What preexisting skills she had by birth alone obviously wouldn't be nearly enough if she were to continue this path.

Taking a brief glance at her own profile of sorts, she was both amused and unsurprised by the lack of information sentients had on her people. She could hardly fault them - the Anzat were happy to take advantage of the mystery that surrounded them, nor had she any real urge to expand their knowledge. Rather, she expressed her emotions with a bit of a chuckle and moved on.

She was caught of guard when [member="Jairdain"] smiled, the occasion hardly something she'd consider really smile-worthy. Then again, who was she to judge. "When do we start?"

Taking the pad back, Jairdain considered [member="Tschov Bolyn"]'s question. The atrium, while great for talking, chatting and meeting people was not the best suited place for something that might be active. So she decided to start with something for the woman to think ok.

"We start now"

At this point, she leaned back in her chair, closed her eyes and recited the Jedi Code.

"There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force."

Looking across the table at Tschov with the Force, she watches to see how she reacts. Unsure if the padawan had heard it before, it was where she started.

"That is the Jedi Code. Think on it the rest of the day and we'll meet up tomorrow to get started with further training."

Settling in to listen to [member="Jairdain"]'s lecture of sorts, Tschov leaned forward, chin leaning on hands, elbows resting on table. Eyes, a stark contrast to the mop of hair drifting over her face, unblinking, taking in everything the same way they would if she was speaking with a potential client.

The code..bits and pieces weren't entirely unfamiliar, nor was it contradictory to teachings from years past. No, the Jedi weren't far off from anything else Tschov had been taught, just taking a far warmer approach to it all. Such a revelation left a bit to be desired.

"That's it?" For a moment the disappointment was evident.

Giving [member="Tschov Bolyn"] a small smile, Jairdain nodded her head.

"That's all for today.
You see, the atrium is great for meeting people and getting a feel for them. Real training takes place elsewhere.
So think on that code, come up with stuff to ask about if it isn't fully clear and we'll meet again tomorrow in one of the training rooms.
Much more quiet and won't get interrupted."

She could feel the woman was disappointed at not being able to continue more today, but hopes after her explanation she would understand her reasons.

As [member="Jairdain"] explained herself, Tschov nodded in understanding. catching on relatively easily once it was spelled out to her. She certainly was eager to get started on things other than theory, but a far more secluded area would certainly be preferred.

She stood, offering an awkward little bow as a follow-up thought. That was a Jedi thing, right? "Until tomorrow, then."

Jairdain picked up on the fact her explanation was understood and when [member="Tschov Bolyn"] stood up to leave, she did as well.

"Until tomorrow.
Meet in this room."

She told the padawan the room location and returned the small bow the woman gave her.
