To Know Ones Family

[member="Shakk Awaud"]

It was finally quiet as he Jaster sat in his office from the Healer Guilds Space Station. All of his paperwork had been finished and he crew and ship were away for the next month. With nothing to do he felt that the remander of his time would be quiet and stress free. He got up from his seat and moved to hallway, he greeted the guards and medical personnel as they went along there bussness. The station had just sent out the few remaining injured and refugees from the latest disaster. Jaster spent months on the ship as things progressed slowly. Supplies and all were coming in short supply and the station was lucky to survive the last few days.

As he coninued to the end hallway, Jaster entered his private room. A normal barracks room but converted to room a single person. Jaster layed in bed the read his useral news updates. Suddenly a small rock flew across the room and hit him right in the forehead.

Shakk was beyond board in the station, filled with people she didn't know and no droids to work on. Only thing she could do was to walk the corridors and study in the holocrons room. Her father, well adopted father, had archived these holocrons from hundreds of worlds has he and teams of scientist looked through ruins and old temples of both Sith and jedi. She was happy to study both holocrons, but her father never let her near ither, saying both can corrupt the mind in thinking one is right. So she spent her time studying books and data from both prospectives, studying holocrons of force healers and others.

She was goin to ask her father allowed access to the Jedi holocrons. She wished to train in force healing like many of her friends on the station. Her father didn't fear the force, just her potential. That's when she saw him, he was leaving his office. She decided to follow him to his room and possibly torment him into submission.

She followed him to his room where he went in and closed the door behind him. Shakk did like her father, he had helped her when she was in the worse part of her life. She was near a planter where she grabbed a rock. She then went near the door and opened the panel. Mr. MandoTeddy, her father liked to lock the door when reading the news. She sliced the door and opened it as quietly as possible, sneaking was her best thing since her father was a trained worrier. When she got a clean line of sight she used her force to lightly throw the rock at her father. It landed directly on his forehead, she laughter evily as her father seemed very confused.

"Hello, MandoTeddy?" She stated to the large Mandalorian who was a little upset looked down at the girl from his bed.

Of course it was her, his daughter, he did love the small girl, but she was a handful. Since they made the station there new home, his loving daughter became a pain. He was lucky that there was a full medical library. They had been best of freinds for a long time and since Jaster had been busy, Shakk and him were separated. These things were difficult, but he had time to spend with her.

"Come now, I disslike that name you gave me," Jaster really didn't mind the name, he liked how his daughter treated him like a loved one, "how may I help you my love?"

He already knew the question and she knew the answer, but she was a sweet child and one day his defenses would crumble. Hopefully this wasn't one of those days.

"Well," she really wished she could become a healer or other medical professional. She was a skilled in the art of fixing broken objects, but she wished to fix people like her fathers friends had. "I wish to take on a master?"

This may force her father into an angry state, but she really wanted it.

This was a shock to him, he allowed her study material to all his findings. She was a curious child, always had been. As he traveled the galaxy, she was in the back seat staring deeply into space. She had been to only a quarter of the planets he had journeyed to. Yet she always sat in tinker shops and dragged him to spaceports to see the many different types of spacecraft. He was proud of his daughter, she knew almost everything about ships and there parts, could take a droid apart and put it back together only using the force.

With only books and data pads she had mastered the basic usage of the force, but she could not control it for long periods of time. He would find her sick from working too had, she'd be in bed for days working up a fever. He close friend who was a force healer told her not to use the force so carelessly, and he became strict in her use of it. He wished her to take the right training, he wished he had all the knowlage, but he didn't want her to be put in a position to join this dumb war.

The truth was he didn't want her to chose a side. He sheltered her from the distraction of the world for seven years, being the sheild to the wrongs of the world. He couldn't be that anymore, he must let her look for her own path till the time came when she wished to join him again.

"I can not allow you to take on a master until you properly understand what you wish to do," Jaster spoke without thinking, 'No, she can do what she wished.' He though. Yet his words said otherwise, "There is a war out there, you see it everyday within these walls as people join here to be treated, both sides affect this war and both fight it, not even the force healers here can stay neutral, they secretly, deeply dislike the Sith, and the Sith on the station dislike them."

This was true, and as a force user she was unable to just stay neutral forever.

She knew this was true, she deeply hated the Sith, but the republic was no diffrent. The only place she felt at home was the ship that belonged to her father. Many years passed as she just sat and stayed in that engine room and built droids from nothing, helping the crew with small tasks. That was her true family, there was were she fell in love with one of the ships pilot, where she learned to fire her first gun, where she was taught by crew to be a girl. She had many fond memories on that crampt cruiser, there were bad ones as well, lost friends were a constant in this galaxy. As soldiers, they were willing to give it to her father willingly, she would as well.

He was not a normal man, he was an inspiration to all. He faught, drank, and lived with his men, he let the mixed crew of merry men teach her about life and other things that her father wouldn't approve of. This station was were she learned she was a force user, were she meet other like her and trained.

She had studied all she could within these walls. Been taught all they could offer by other healers on the station. She wished to learn all she could, but her father was right, she did not wish to join a side in this conflict. She wanted to learn about the force, and all it had to offer. The one thing she wished to do was heal, bit the Sith and the Jedi offered this, forcing healing was useful to anyone.

"If you would let me explore the galaxy, I swear I could would lean more then being here." She was adamant about this.

Wage was a strong willed girl, also very stubborn, he blammed his XO for that. His second in command of his fleet was an uncle to her daughter, and a brother to him. He was also very stubborn and cautious. He had taught her how to fly, and with his help she became an ace in the fleet as well as one of the best mechanics as well. If she was to leave, they would miss her so, he would miss her the most.

This little girl who he had raised had become a strong teen, also very stubborn. He would have to protect his daughter if he was to let her go, and he wasn't sure about that.

"Dear, you have only been here for for a few months, let this place sink in before you decide to move on," Jaster hated to admit it but the world could kill her, that would send him over the edge, "let the Jedi here teach you some more?"

He was a hypocrite in his own way. Yet she loved this large old man, he was the heart and soul of her will. Yet he was fearful of her protection, he would say anything to allow her to stay. She wished to stay and not leave all her friend, but the time of putting it off her departure had come. The minor things of not properly understanding the force and true understanding of healing.

"Dad, you just said it, I can't choose Jedi without understanding them, let me travel, study abroad to other planets and look for a proper teacher." Shakk knew this would only frustrate her father, but she wanted this badly.

The had planets she wished to go to the temples, study the ancient text from other worlds. This was a dream she just arrived to her, knowlage was all she looked forward to. Well that and morning training with her father, sword practice was her favorite to try and beat her fathers training. That was one thing she would deeply miss, her only time she was allowed to be alone with her father.

"You've taught me all I need to survive, or were you just goin to let me soil away here."

"Child, I've taught you all I could teach you," Jaster enjoyed the training they did together. Although he hadnt kill another person in over 10 years he still knew the pain. He knew she could never return of she was like that. There were things people just werent able to come back from.

"I guess you'll leave weather I say yes or no," Jaster knew of at least 100 people who would secure her a ship and allow her to leave. She would be half way across the galaxy before anyone told him she was gone, "I guess I must give you my blessing, but first," he stood from his bed, walked over to his daughter, "you must play an old man to a game of holochess?"

Jaster enjoyed how much she could weasle her way out of Jasters games. He hadn't lost a game since before he joined even the Mandalorian Navy.

Holochess, one of the few things her father would always best her at. The game was prefured to smugglers and raiders for its hidden tricks and strategy. Shakk was just a little to impatient for the game, but she guessed that why he wished to play it. Yet she couldn't let the chance fade. Her father gave her permission to travel the galaxy, this was her dream coming true.

"I guess I can spoil my old man." She said with a smile across her face. Her body was shaking with excitement, there were knowlage to find and one thing she looked forward to, meeting new people.

That was a hard pill to swallow, she was never good at talking with people. She preferred droids to people and books over talking period. With help from her father she was able to make the crew her family.

There was a holochess board in the cornor of his room that he used to play other gaurd feeling lucky. They sat across each other and be stated the game. The game started when he moved his piece.

He looked at his daughter, it was only a few years ago when they had meet at a refugee camp and he took her in. She was such a frail girl who couldn't even talk to the doctors at the camp. These were tough times for him to let her go but she wanted this.

"So what is it that would assist you in your travels?"

She looked up at her father, he was a strict man, was always protective. Yet those were the parts of him she enjoyed most. Although her upbringing was roofed by her father, she never lived a boring life. He joined across the stars to protect and help many people from across the galaxy, and every step he took her. She saw the slumps of Narr Shada, the dessert plains of Tatooine, even the mega skyscraper of Corascant. Seeing more then her fair share of planets, but she longed for connections other then with her father. She wished for friends outside the stations, mentors beond medicine.

"I'll need a ship and crew, along with supplys and credits." She said confidently, anything less to her father would be a sign of weakness in her own eyes.

Although only 16, she knew how to handle herself and her father. He being 36 with no family to recognize him, he didn't care for statuse quote, nor did he wish to fight let alone kill anyone, he was a soft man with a very hard exterior. He was tough on everyone, mostly himself, training endlessly to hone his skills to be a better commander. She meant it too, she had seen him turn former enemy's into drinking buddy's in his presence to have them fight as soon as he left the room.

She wished to be him, to be a peace keeper, to end the killing any way she could.

There see was, a strong girl turning into a women. She was always trying so hard to hide her fears and weaknesses, but he always saw through her. He was able to tell that she was scared to leave the station, leave the friends she once knew. He didn't want this so he would put a team together, a crew for her. One of his shuttles would suffice for transportation and they were some of the quickest. For the team though she covered all the needed basics to be a one maned crew. She is a skilled pilots, superb fighter, great mechanic, and one of the best at getting along with people, when she could talk to them. Even with this she couldn't do it alone, the shuttle could house 15 people and only need two to fly it.

He knew just the people. "Ok, you can take one of my modified shuttles, she's fast and easy to maneuver, you'll also need a crew, I'll have Donoly pick up the Special Security Unit to to go with you."

"Y-yes, father, I-I-I think that's a good idea."

Not Donoly, of all people. Her father didn't know this, and for good reason, but her and Donoly use to date for a short time when they were both younger. From a loyal family to the Awauds, Donoly rose through the ranks of the crew and became a main competitor for Ace pilot with her before he turned 20. Her father didn't much care for the boy, he was a loyal solider and one of the best fighter pilots he had, but compared to the true men and woman of the Special Security Unit, he was in the minors bracket.

She knew the members of the SSU very well, they were all once her babysitters when she was growing up and became close with all of them. The team had 8 members and all were very kind people, well to her anyways.

There was "Jacket", the team leader and one of the best hand to hand combat soldier she knew. He was her self defense teacher while growing up and one of her fathers best drinking buddy's. He was 26 and carried the rank of Rally Master in the crew.

Then there was "Goldy" a skilled co-pilot and great with machines. This was one of the few crew members who she taught, they both started out in the Engeneering Room as mechanics. Taught each other how to fix droids and tinker with machines. They were best friends and he was the first to know of her force powers before anyone else.

Next there was "Jewels", kind of a stuck up female, but when things got bad she was a good person to have your back. Although she was one of the few females she got close to on the ship, Jewels was from Corascant and knew how to handle a blaster before she could walk. Skilled soldier, she needed her skills on talking to people to improve a little.

"Drag", the younger version of her loved this man like an older brother, he never spoke because of the a problem with his vocal cords. He was a beast of a man and even if he wished he couldn't hide his size. He was one of the few members of the crew who would treat her like a girl and not the Admirals Daughter. This was mainly because her father not only feared this man in a fight, but also treated him as a son. As one of the strongest man in the fleet, Drag didn't like to fight people but rather liked to play drinking games and gamble.

"Strew", one of the jokers of the fleet, Stew was another of Shakks kinda siblings. He protected her through most of her teens because she was a handful. She would admit that she did have a rebellious stage, one that her father called "Literally wanted to choke me" as she would sometimes mess with the ships sensors if she didn't get her way, she was just that good. Badly enough Strew helped her get away with it as he voiced that he was with her the whe time. He liked practical jokes, but he was also one of the best shoots in the whole fleet.

"Dino" was a good guy, kinda strick with how he did things. Well he did work with bombs for a living so he was kind of a mean person if someone interupted his concentration while working. Shakk never did try and learned a lot from him as a teacher. He loved chasing girls and was constantly bragging about the girls he was with on the last planet. Strew and Dino were always pestering each other about everything, Shakk teased that they were lovers.

"Gerr" was a smart girl, not much older then Shakk, they were always competitive as they both liked Donoly. She was a skilled hacker and even better programmer. Shakk was no were near her level and Gerr always let her know, but they still compleated with each other for donolys affection for a time and now they both lost interest. Becoming good friends now they combine there skills to almost become invincible.

"Jack" was her cousin, son of Jaster younger brother, jack was a year older then her. Just out of his rite of passage he begged his uncle, Shakks father to have him join there cause. He was placed in the SSU for protection and became one of the best average soldier around. Good shooting skills and proficiency with blades weapons, when her father was sick, Jack and Shakk would practice there sword skills together and progressivly got better together. He was also the only family Shakk knew of.

"What is the problem child?" Jaster asked with a grin, he knew about them dating. He was even entertained after they broke up, but God he couldnt tell her that. It was her first love and he was willing to support it, gritting his teeth the whole time. This was meant as a joke to insult her idea of leaving, mostly thinking of how uncomfortable they would be in the small confines of that ship.

She was a strong willed girl though, and stubborn, like him. The men and women he was sending were also very strong. He saved, recruited, or helped everyone in that unit as they escaped there skeletons. He never asked what they were and asked them to never share them, they were what made them and that's all that mattered to him. That and their mission to keep his daughter safe from harm. The treaty with the major factions was near to begin and he needed nothing to take his mind off the negosiations, and didn't need to give any side the leverage they needed.
