How many months had it been since Katherine had been listed as MIA? She had last been seen during the Dark Empire’s attack on Coruscant. The Padawan had been sighted fighting just outside the Jedi Temple, right by the main stairway. But amongst all the chaos that had erupted, least of all a freaking ship lifting off from beneath the Senate building, no one had seen Katherine being rendered unconscious and captured.

All that was left; all that could be found, was her lightsaber that had at some point rolled down the Temple stairs.

From then on, Katherine had been in the ‘generous’ care of the Dark Empire’s ISB. Her time was overseen by the Director herself, Ellayina L'lerim Ellayina L'lerim . The winged Padawan had even drawn the interest of the Shadow Hand, whose interest leaned towards turning her away from the Jedi.

But Katherine refused.

In a twist of fate, it seemed her nature as a Sithspawn had been a boon to her resistance. Something natural that had been twisted by Sith Alchemy, one would imagine that would’ve only aided the Empire’s attempts in turning her. And it would’ve, if she hadn’t been brought into the care and tutelage of the Nobles and the New Jedi Order. Ever since that day when she had been taken from that SIA cell, Katherine had been fighting against that dark nature.

And then her ‘hosts’ switched to physically breaking her.

There was only so much the Padawan could withstand. She had gone toe to toe with Mandalorians, but the ISB were…creative. Katherine still had one last trump card however, though one she hesitated to use for the longest time.

Lorelei. The lasting remnants of her previous self, trapped within her own body as a result of Sith experiments. She had been a shield for Katherine, taking the reins as it were to give the Padawan periodic breaks from the torture.

But it could only last so long, and eventually Lorelei knew she’d hit a breaking point. Thus, as she felt those final moments approaching. She grasped a hold of whatever threads she could, reaching out through the Force and focused. Lorelei’s final act was sending the last of her energy out into the galaxy, towards one of the few places; and people she knew could find Katherine.

Niv Hani.

A ball of light blue energy formed together in the middle of the Noble’s living room. It began intangible, gradually spinning faster and faster, until it suddenly morphed into a fox-like entity.

Hello? Hello?! Is anyone here?” The entity floated in the air, frantically looking around. “Oh, I hope this is the right place…

Life was busy. After the invasion, Kahlil was pulled in every which way. He had to figure out so many things, where the padawans would go, how the Jedi would assist securing the boarder around Tython from the Dark Empire. Missing person reports, all of it. Worst of them all, though? His own Padawan. He glanced to her report again, a frown on his face as he tried to think on just where she could've gone.

All he could do was hope she'd turn up. She was an adult, and thankfully well trained.

Hope was all he had.

The laps around the home had become routine by now. On some days she went outside of the boundaries for fun, but most of the time she played it safe. Today was an inside-the-barrier type of day as Colette pushed herself past her limit to try and expand it even further. Sweat ran down her forehead and she wiped off of her brows with a tired exhale before she barged in through the front door of the Noble home and stumbled right into the living room where she saw-

"A fox!" She exclaimed in surprise. "A fox?"

She was still out of breath. Her shoulders rose and sunk with a calm pace as she tried to make sense of what she was seeing.

"Kaaaahl!" She shouted. "Did you bring home some kind of… Spirit fox?"

Colette knelt down to try and reach out with a hand for the creature to smell, to recognize her so that she could establish a connection with it.

"Hey there, little thing. I'm no threat. Are you new here? You good?"

The fox spirit was getting awfully worried, as no one was responding to its calls. It had only just spawned, it had no idea if it could interact with anything, like…opening doors. Nor was it particularly strong enough to sense if there were sentient beings closeby.

At least until it heard something or someone barge through a door nearby. The spirit immediately moved to the floor, ears pinned back and ready to react on instinct. But as the person came stumbling into view, the fox’s entire demeanour shifted towards curiosity.

Is this what a human looks like? Why does this one feel…familiar?

Cautiously, the spirit approached Colette until it was able to sniff her hand. At first there was nothing, until something clicked. There was a familiarity with the stranger, stemming from its creator.

You, I recognize you! You’re the punchy one, Co…et?” The spirit’s head tilted in confusion, trying to remember the name properly. But its focus quickly shifted back to its purpose. “This is the house of Noble, yes?

I need to find the Noble Master! Or was it Master Noble?” Again, the fox spirit was beginning to confuse itself.

Kahlil raised a brow as he glanced towards where he heard Colette speak from. A ghost fox? He got up, heading out. There were only two he knew of, Harmony his own, and Valery Noble Valery Noble 's chaos. If something was wrong with his wife, though, he'd feel it through their bond. So he more or less rushed out, raising a brow right at the fox as he did.

No, it wasn't one of his.

"I'm Master Noble. What's uh, brought you here..?"

Hearing a new voice, the fox’s ears perked up again, turning to face as Kahlil stepped into the living room. Almost immediately it hopped into the air, floating around him while sniffing.

Yes, yes! You smell familiar too. You’re the taller Noble.

Satisfied it had found who it was looking for, the fox floated down and settled atop a nearby table.

Katherine sent me! No, the other lady sent me before she…” The spirit’s voice trailed off, remembering how quiet that brief connection was after Lorelei had sent it off to find the Nobles. “She created me, sent me here on behalf of Katherine.

The fox spirit looked up at Colette and Kahlil.

Bad bad people have her, hurting her. Director lady and some Shadow….Fist? Or was it Hand?” The fox shook its head, it was bad enough trying to remember information, let alone sentient beings’ silly titles.

Bad, bad people? She'd been captured, again?

Kahlil's expression tightened for a moment as he listened to the fox before he nodded once. All the work he'd been sorting through? No longer important. He crouched beside the fox, glancing to Colette for a moment. She was the eldest of his kids, so, well. She'd be able to help, hopefully.

"Can you take us to her?"

Katherine. Winglady. Danger. Okay, that was easy enough to understand. The spiritual fox thing not so much, but perhaps it wasn't relevant.

Yet again, Colette felt no need to add much to the conversation. Kahlil was the elder here, and Katherine was his apprentice. Colette was familiar with her, but not to any extent further than the spar.

Of course, she would follow Kahlil on this whether he wanted to or not. She gave him a determined nod to make that much clear.

Can I do that? I…” The spirit looked down, quickly lost in its own thoughts.

What could it do? The only thing it knew was getting to this place to find someone to help Katherine. Beyond that, the fox spirit was stumped. That was its sole purpose, could it even do more than that? Did it want to?

The spirit shook its head.

Not until Katherine was safe.

I can follow the trail I took?” It said, looking up at Kahlil. “But I can’t do it alone.

What it could and couldn’t do was one thing, but the reality was it didn’t have enough energy.

"Vera? Your father is going after Katherine to bring her back. Can you get a guest room ready?" Valery asked after she felt her husband's nudge through their bond. He was with Colette, so Valery knew they would be okay together and able to look after each other, but that didn't mean she had no way to help out herself.

She could make sure that they'd come home and be taken care of.

<If you need help, I'm one call away.> She sent him a little nudge and also spread her warmth. Valery knew just how important his Padawans were to him, so she wanted him to know that he had her support.

No matter what.

"Hey sweeties?" Valery turned to the triplets, who were all curious about what was going on.

"Why don't you guys make some drawings and fingerpaintings for Katherine for when she comes home? I'm sure that would make her very happy." Valery smiled and the little ones all bounced with excitement.

"Okay!" They chirped together before getting to work.

To the Bastion!” The spirit exclaimed, hopping up into the air with excitement. It floated along, almost looking like it was swimming, as it followed Kahlil and Colette. “...What’s a Bastion?

As they made their way, the former raised the question about what to call the spirit fox. To which, the entity looked confused.

Call me? Like a...name?” It asked.

It didn’t have one, Lorelei hadn’t the time to bestow one.

I’m not…sure?” The spirit thought for a few moments. “I know of only two others like me; Harmony and Chaos, so maybe something like that?

"Fox works. You uh, yeah. Just settle down. I'll let you know when we arrive." It was probably good they weren't living in the Bastion when they brought Colette into the family, given how nauseous she got. He gave her a brief, sympathetic smile before he'd settle down on the controls of the Bastion to get them spaceborn and on their way to..

Well.

He looked to Fox, nodding once.

"Guide us, Fox."

Fox.

It was a simple name, but one that worked for the time being. And as the spirit thought about it more, it only made sense to have Katherine be the one to give it a permanent name.

As they boarded the Bastion, the spirit looked around with unfiltered curiosity. There was vague knowledge of what a ‘ship’ was, but to Fox it was a brand new sight.

Though then again, almost everything was.

It watched fascinated as Kahlil got seated and prepped the Bastion for takeoff. Fox saw the computer terminal spring to life, one that appeared to be some kind of map. Staring at it, something clicked in the spirit’s mind and it hopped up on top of the navigational computer.

Turning around a couple times to get comfortable, Fox curled up and closed its eyes, focusing. It couldn’t fully remember the exact trail it took, but it could recall its origin point

After several moments, the navigation display charted a path across to the other side of the galaxy. It seemed like a random spot; in the middle of space, and nowhere close to either Alliance or Empire space.

But Fox was confident it was the right location.

It was like at the center of a carousel. It wasn't Colette who moved but rather the immediate area around her. If she looked at the ground she could tell that everything was standing still, but if she looked anywhere else it would just come back and bite her.

As the others navigated space, she navigated her mind and tried to recall Katherine from that day they had both screwed Valery over and how fun that had been.

Yeah, Kath was a good egg.
