To The Yelling Ones

So I understand no one likes yelling...its annoying, it's loud and frankly not attractive...sometimes.

But human nature is: Angry = Yelling

Dont act like someone is a terrible person for being angry and expressing that feeling. You have done it, I have done it, we have all done it. So if you are going to tell someone that yelling isnt the answer, please try to do so in a manner that doesnt make you out to be jerk yourself.

Again, I get it..I really do.

But the caps lock is not hurting your ears, and actually makes it easier on your eyes to read what is being said. So in the end, though yes they are yelling, and yes in your head that is how you are reading it...in no way is it really..able to offend you or disrupt your thoughts.

I see it everywhere here where someone is angry, they express it with caps lock and people kindle the fire by attacking them for yelling in crude, trollish ways.

But I guess this is the internet and no one cares huh?

Dealing with an angry person is not about being sarcastic...or rude back, its about trying to figure how to get them on a level that is civil. For the love of all that is good people of this community....stop being jerks to one another, the world is in chaos all over and here at this community we can't be but humane enough to say: "Hey man, I know you are upset, but tone it down some, and lets talk about this. Wanna beer? Let me buy you one."

My own rant is done. Feel free to comment as you wish. Thank you for taking your time to read this.

[member="Zeran Varix"] - Did I just read a public rant from you about asking other people not to rant in public?

Nope, Im talking about those people simply say "Cause yelling did a alot" to a reply to someone ranting on about something.

I really dont think you caught on to what this is about...this is not a rant about those ranting....this is a rant about those who post a single sentence about the person ranting and their apparent yelling because they are using CAPS LOCK.

These people are unhelpful and really seem they just wanna troll.

Where as the admins that come in, tone down the original ranting post and then proceed to go about trying to speak with the person ranting rather than just...troll. Sure, this is the internet, trolls are there, they are everywhere.

Should it not be our jobs though to make sure these kinds of things are monitored as members of this community?

Should it also not be our job to socially punish and refrain from condoning public obscenities per the broken windows theory of sociology and our univeral desire for order and harmony per social norms? If one breaks them, they fully deserve the socially sanctioned scorn they receive from third parties and secondary parties.

Tl;dr: if you cussin and yellin you be gettin what you asked for. College yo. It does things to ya.

"Yelling" in text format is ... normal and some would even argue healthy, just like in real life where it is normal and healthy to get angry and release your anger.

However, there are better and more constructive ways to release said anger than using caps lock.

Caps lock often and regularly leads to derogatory comments, blame-throwing, finger pointing, and general unnecessary obscenities. This is not healthy nor conducive to a situation where people can discuss and get to the meat and potatoes of the apparent issue. Ranting gets us nowhere.

Ranting is best used in a back room with people you trust - in which case I refer to it as venting. Everyone has to blow off some steam every now and then, even I vent to my trusted friends, but it should not be a public display. 99% of the time you'll say things you regret or don't mean.

Vent in private to your friends. Heck, write your rant in a gdoc or word. Get it all out. Every single last caps letter. Sit back, read it again and again. Sleep on it. Revisit, delete it, then come back to the public forum to discuss the issues you're really after in a civilized manner. Not only will you look far more mature to your fellow members, but most people are much more likely to participate in a discussion that is civil and offer useful feedback.

On the bright side no one has flooded this thread with caps, so people are sort of listening.

Oh no, I get what you're saying. Jay likes to mess with your head, it's a thing he does to all of us. Don't worry about him he's just grumpy ;).
