RebelCommando

Fighting for the Alliance
Intent: A tool to protect the innocent and ignite courage to the user's allies
Manufacturer: Tomas Welson
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Rebel Alliance, Jedi, Tomas Welson
Modularity: No
Production: Unique
Material: Various durasteel Lightsaber components and electronic parts, yellow primary crystal, focusing crystal
Classification: Lightsaber
Size: Built to be used in both one handed and two handed grips.
Length: 20.4 cm Hilt 88.9 cm Blade
Weight: 1.6 Kg
Special Features: Single Yellow blade, trigger guard made with a bronze colored metal to offset the main grey. Two exposed prongs are visible on the butt end of the hilt, used for recharging the Lightsaber power cell or to deliver a disorienting electrical shock when they come in contact with an opponent. Just like a Stun Gun.
Description: Built on Yavin IV by Tomas Welson rather than simply selecting one of the pre made styles, Tomas took a few incomplete Lightsaber hilts and took them all apart before adding some Blaster and various parts he acquired from a nearby Mechanic before sitting down and meditating. Piece by piece parts began to rise from the pile and assemble. Nearly half an hour later and Tomas opened his eyes to look upon his incomplete lightsaber, the only parts missing were the Crystals which he soon collected from Illium. Finally adding the final piece to complete his Lightsaber.

Tomas' lightsaber mostly a grey cylinder with three copper like rings providing contrast, between the top two rings on one side a trigger guard bridges over the ignition trigger, making the saber somewhat difficult to knock free from his hand. Five black grip pieces surround the butt end of the saber, going over the mentioned copper colored rings. At the head of the saber, the neck suddenly becomes thin before returning to normal size (Like Obi Wan's or Luke Skywalker's lightsabers) A small and simple indicator panel provide basic information like the current charge left in the power cell.
On the butt end however, two exposed copper like prongs protrude from the smooth dome on the bottom, used for either recharging the powercell or delivering a powerful electric shock whenever both ends touch something at the cost of power a stun blast would deplete a normal Blaster's powercell, Making his lightsaber double as a stun gun for situations where a yellow glowing blade would be ill advised. Contact for about half a second will result in painful muscle spasms but no lasting damage. Contact up to four seconds can cause nerve damage and electrical scarring on the skin and even short circuit some delicate cybernetics. Five seconds contact is fatal to a human. Assuming the prongs contact bare skin or clothing. Armor can either improve or decrease the stun gun's performance, depending on how well it conducts electricity. However, if the blade is ignited the same time as the Stun Gun is in use the electromagnetic field in the blade becomes temporarily weak, meaning another lightsaber blade, a blaster bolt, or pretty much anything can short circuit the blade and force Tomas to reignite it, an effect similar to as if the blade came into contact with Cortosis.

(I drew a picture of it, but I can't find out how to upload it here)

Looking good, standard lightsaber with a few tricks.

I presume the hilt is made of durasteel? If so, please list it under Material.

  • 90~ cm is a bit short for a lightsaber blade. The standard lightsaber blade length is 145 cm
You can, of course, have a shorter blade. Just informing you of the significant difference
  • 1 kg is usually the weight of a lightsaber, but since you'd have additional components for the stun gun, let's say 1.5 kg

How strong is this electrical shock that the two prongs can deliver? Doesn't need to be in volts or anything, but please include the expected results in the description.
Would an unprotected organic merely suffer cramps? Would they spasm? Would they fall unconscious? Give me a reasonable effect for this "stun gun" and we should be good.

Tag me with edits and/or questions. :)

I did some more research on Stun guns and added them in, I have a sword in real life and the blade is the perfect length for me at 90 cm so I left it.

And not to challenge your authority or anything but I was under the impression that Lightsabers were supposed to be quite heavy.

Please tag me properly, or I may overlook your responses. :)

Blade length is fine, then.
Weight: 1 kg
The above is straight from wookieepedia. Since the hilt is just citcuitry, some small crystals, and a powercell (the heaviest of all, I believe), it doesn't amount to that much. The casing itself is pretty thin as well, so the impact on weight is negligible.
In addition, 1 kg isn't that far from an average one-handed sword weight, though obviously it's distributed quite differently.
Since you have additional tech crammed into the hilt, the weight should be 1.5 kg to reflect that.

Tag me when you're done. :)

I'm new to this Roleplay's layout, so learning as I go

I changed the weight to 1.6 because as you mentioned it has some extra parts included, but part of the design was that the trigger guard was actually thick and bulky rather then just a thin wire frame, enough to add a little more weight.

And for Lightsabers being heavy I was thinking about how Lucas had the idea that the Lightsaber was supposed to be hefty when coming up with the concept for them

No problem, it happens. :)

Works.
In general, it's a good idea to double check with the wookieepedia for info like that, and if you intend to change it, it's good to describe your reasoning why the item is heavier/lighter than usual.

One more question about the stun gun / taser at the end; considering its power is derived from the same power-cell as the lightsaber's can they function at the same time? As in, could you be using your lightsaber and shock someone with the stun gun at the same time?

Thing is, the lightsaber doesn't drain the energy from the diatium cell because it cycles back in (unless you're cutting something or it's otherwise in contact with another object).

The stun gun, however, would actually drain the cell, so I'd say you have a couple of consequences to consider:
  • When you use the stun gun, the lightsaber blade is unusable/shuts off
  • The stun gun drains the cell with usage, so you'd have a limited amount of stun charges in there, and once you drained it, both the lightsaber and the stun gun would be useless until you recharged it
  • With each charge used by the stun gun, the lightsaber blade will get progressively weaker (e.g. slower cutting speed and such)

This is what I had in mind:
  • When the stun gun is in use, the blade is still active but extremely weak.
  • The Stun gun might drain the Lightsaber's powercell, but at about the same rate using the "stun" feature on a blaster would deplete it's powerpack. So it can last quite a while without needing to recharge. Failing that, both the stun gun and Lightsaber go dead as you recommended.
  • Small indicator lights on the side of the saber hilt have a "low battery" warning so a dead battery can't sneak up on him.

You know how a lot of Lightsabers have a power adjustment knob? When the Stun gun is in use, it would be like turning one of those knobs down to the lowest setting. meaning it's still visible, but extremely weak. Coming in contact with another lightsaber blade, being hit by a blaster bolt or anything else that would interfer with the arc and eletromagnetic field of the blade, making it very easy to short out. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Blade_power_adjustment_knob

So when the Stun Gun is in use the blade is still active but merely serves as a placeholder so Tomas doesn't have to waste time re activating his lightsaber every time he uses it.

Always keep in mind that damage done by this is ultimately up to the person affected.

Approved pending secondary.
