Tomb Raiding

Assadar Ilrast had gotten into many difficult situations in his so far short and unhappy life, but none quite so dangerous as this. The best part: he was deliberately walking into this one.

A team of civilian archaeologist on Korriban--a Republic controlled world--had recently uncovered something unprecedented: another, previously undiscovered underground complex, believed to be a Sith tomb. All they had confirmed so far was this: the architecture matched that of the first Sith Empire. They had not, unfortunately, been able to further their studies: after progressing beyond the entrance hall, they had disappeared. Nobody had heard from them in days.

After that, rumors had been flying around the holonet like wildfire. The tomb was infested by monsters, they said--K'lor slugs, probably--else it was filled with traps designed to keep intruders from discovering its secrets, or a deadly curse laid on it by its ancient occupant. Assadar thought it was probably a combination of all three, having a better understanding of the ancient secrets of Korriban that most of the non-force sensitive archaeological community. He had a hunch.

By now, all of the tombs of the ancient Sith Lords had been fully explored and totally plundered; in fact, these tombs, most of them dating back to the most ancient incarnation of the Sith Empire, had for the most part been uncovered during the days of the resurgent Sith Empire; a very long time after their construction but still a very, very long time ago. Only one of the legendary tombs had remained untouched through the ages; a name that only survived in vague legend and in the oldest, most obscure writings that could be found in the Sith archives on Coruscant. Its occupant was Darth Ignus, an ancient Dark Lord of terrible power. Almost nothing was known about him save that which related to his tomb, but the stories said that in his tomb was buried several Dark Artifacts. One was said to be an ancient and powerful weapon, most likely a lightsaber; one was said to be a store of great knowledge, (Assadar thought it must be a holocron), one was said to be a faithful and deadly servant--Assadar was unsure as to the nature of this one, but some of the very sketchy accounts of Ignus' reign mentioned an advanced bodyguard droid who served him throughout his life. Along with all of this was a hoard of lesser artifacts, said to be the greatest treasures of Ignus' empire. As the Dark Lord was known to live during the latter days of the old Empire--the 'Golden Age' of the Sith--Assadar expected that these treasures would have been worth a great deal back then and even more today.

Assadar had moved swiftly. Using secret holonet channels, he had assembled a team of force users--all learners like himself; it would not do to have some Sith Lord overpower him once they reached the treasure and claim it all for their own--to explore the tomb. If this really was the Lost Tomb of Darth Ignus, the last great tomb of Korriban, then the prizes that they could claim would undoubtedly be great; not to mention the renown. Getting there, however, would be tricky. He had managed to get his hands on a Republic shuttle, but because of the planet's very nature, a special license was required to travel to the surface. Each of his company would require one before they could even begin their quest--and once they were inside the tomb, there was no telling what they might face, or how many of them would return...

Korriban was the place where you never wanted to be alone. Sith spirits could mess with your mind and possibly trick you into death. They weren't bad, just lost. Alask was on Coruscant when his holonet notifications alerted him. Maybe it was a job notification. No matter what, he wasn't gonna ignore it. He checked it and saw the job he said he would partake in. The items are what interested him the most but he always enjoyed exploring. Alask sent the man who listed the job a message. However, he wasn't sure if the message would go through due to the secrecy of the whole thing but he would try.

Korriban. She had never been, but after hiding on Ziost for a few weeks, she was looking forward to something warmer. The Vahl sat in the cargo hold, deep in meditation, sweat pouring off her brow. She was altering the minds of the Republic supply ship's crew, and it was hard. Sure, she was doing it, and they had a delivery, but keeping them occupied and away from the cargo bay would be difficult. She needed to wait for them to empty the crates and leave. For now, she waited, the meditation and stress of her task keeping her warm enough in the cooled room. Silent, focusing on the minds around her, she waited. The subtle nature of her actions would raise no suspicion as the shuttle set down.

Or so she hoped.

(anyone gonna post? This is like Christmas to me.)

The small Republic shuttle glided in towards one of the hangars of the Korriban Orbital facility. Sitting in the freezing cargo hold however, the three of them had no idea where they were until they felt a small shudder and heard the clunk of the ship's landing gear colliding with the station's deck. He turned to [member="Grace Darkson"] and nodded. Now came the tricky part--especially for her. The Republic crew would now enter the cargo hold, with their unwanted guests still in it. If the Vahl did her job, they would pay them no heed--if not, Assadar hoped they could be dispatched quickly and quietly, and that they wouldn't be missed on the station.

The quiet she had been working in was gone in seconds. Two members of th crew ran checks on all the crates. They would pull one out, open it, and close it again. What was in them, she wasn't sure. But it was heavy. They moved past where the group sat, oblivious to them for the moment. But she was tiring. Running out of energy. There were options, of course. She could feel the well of the planet almost offering for her to draw from it. But she wasn't willing to use it. Not yet. She could take a shot of adrenaline, but that would run the risk of breaking her concentration and getting them discovered. Or she could hurt someone. The pain from it could give her a boost. And it would help distract them from their guests. As the pair lifted the next box, she gave a gentle nudge to one of their minds. The crate slipped, and crashed down on his foot. She felt the bones shatter as he cried out in pain. Soaking it up, she worked on making sure that the attention focused on that. The man's agony helped reinvigorate her. She'd take an adrenaline shot once they were out.

The crew didn't stay long after the incident with the crate--they followed Darkson's victim, still cursing profusely, back to the cockpit. Now was their chance.

Assadar motioned silently for the two of them to rise to their feet. He lead them silently out of the cargo hold, hoping that Darkson's mind tricks would prevent their unwitting co-conspirators from noticing the swoosh of the heavy doors. Creeping out, Assadar saw that the crew were not on the flight deck. Creeping up to the main doors, Assadar pressed a button on the wall, watching as the ship's exit opened up and winced as the boarding ramp descended noisly, finishing with a soft thud as it came to rest on the grey steel deck of the station. Assadar left the ship as quickly as he could, desperately hoping that they would not be noticed by the crew. Just as he was taking his first step onto the ramp, a confused voice made his blood run cold.

"Who the hell are you?"

Grace's concentration had been slipping sense she started moving, and it was getting harder to misdirect them. She heard the ramp lower, wondering if they ever planned to oil it, when the voice spoke. Her head snapped back, and she looked the man in the eye. Human male. Mid to late twenties. Name was something like Thomas. She raised her hand as he reached for his holster. "We were just going. You don't need to worry about it." As she spoke, she began to press his buttons, pulling out the part of him that wanted to believe her. She looked human enough, after all. She drove the force into his memory like a spike, smiling as he slumped to the ground. "Aww. Did that hurt?" Sighing, she reached into her pocket for the adrenal. She needed it.

Assadar smiled at his companion; taking her on board had been an excellent decision, he decided, and she would surely be invaluable in the following hours.

"Time to go." he said, striding briskly down the ramp. They crossed the hangar quickly, as Assadar attempted to get them lost in the crowd. After taking an elevator to the main level, Assadar followed the signs to the station cantina and found the trio a table.

"Alright, we're going to need three surface passes." he said. "Unfortunately, I have no idea who among this crowd has one. I suggest we find whoever gives out these passes and convince them to hand them over, but I don't know how many people's minds would have to be altered at once. What do you think, Darkson?"

Grace forced her tense body to relax as she pressed the needle into her arm. "It depends on how much you have to spend. "Republic Personale will have them, but I'm not sure if that would be the best route." She sighed, rolling her neck with closed eyes. She had a minute of exhaustion before the stimulant kicked in. "Otherwise, I could distract people to let one of you pick their pockets. Or, we could probably find some form of dealer. This stuff is the biggest hype in collecting these days." Her eyes darted around. "Either way, we should hurry. I don't like being in such close proximity to Jedi if I can avoid it."

Assadar shook his head at the last suggestion. "Trying to find a dealer would be too difficult, too dangerous and too expensive. Attempting to bribe would cost more money than I care to spend, and probably more than all of us are carrying. I suggest we attempt to pickpocket, but it won't be easy. If we get caught, this mission will become almost impossible, and we'll be lucky to escape with our freedom. Where do you suggest we look? Not all Republic personnel will have these passes."
