TOMMAS HERALT
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Intent: Adding in the commando unit sociopath.
Role: The squad guerrilla warfare expert.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
- Age: 43
- Force Sensitivity: Non-Force User
- Species: Human.
- Appearance: Tommas Heralt is a tall man standing at six feet, nine inches. His body is roppled with muscle, and scars which cover them. Despite having spent more than half his life fighting, he still keeps in great shape. What is perhaps the most discernible thing about his appearance, is his lower jaw and teeth. A vengeful mob tore out his teeth and jaw, meaning he’s had to have cybernetic prosthesis.
- The prosthesis, compared to the average human stand in stark contrast. The jaw is very box life, and doesn’t move with the curvature of his face, and his teeth, his teeth are horrifying. Crudely fashioned, daggers hang from his jaw. Because of a lack of tongue, he can’t eat properly, and adopts the attitude of a crocodile in eating. He often thrashes around tearing up whatever he’s eating, and coating those opposite with it. The cybernetics were never perfectly installed, so at times, he feels great pain.
- Other than his jaw, Tommas face holds his nose, a crooked feature which skews to the right slightly. This is from when he told an off colour joke about another troopers mother, and a group of gamorreans. His eyes a deep blue, though often bloodshot, Tommas often finds sleep difficult to attain, and that is a visible side affect of that. His hair is short and black, though there is a spot on his right side, where it refuses to grow. That is thanks to an accident while preparing a bomb for disposal.
- Name: Tommas Heralt
- Nickname: Parcel Tom, Parcel or the Parcel Bomber.
- Theme: Diesel Power, Prodigy
- Loyalties: The First Order, Rexus Wenck.
- Wealth: Destitute.
- Notable Possessions: A news article about terrorist bombings in the Core Worlds, his One Sith dogtags and a picture of him and his One Sith combat unit, the 43rd Engineers.
- Skills: Tommas is a skilled combatant with over twenty years experience, fighting for some of the worst the Galaxy has to offer. His specialties involved guerrilla and contra-guerrilla warfare, as well as combat engineering. But perhaps the skill Tommas is most skilled with, is bomb making. For ten years, he terrified the Core worlds, mailing discrete, yet powerful improvised explosives to the Galaxy’s richest and most powerful. He is able to create thermal detonator sized explosions, with but a fraction of the baradium, saw dust, faecal matter and several millilitres of dishwasher cleaner.
- Personality: Tommas is a very introverted figure, he doesn't like to talk, and the process of doing that is painful. He often communicates in glares and grunts. In terms of personality, he's often volatile, and angry figure. He does not respect other people's boundaries, and often takes jokes way too far. He often mistakes the reactions of his comrades, as humour, when it's really discomfort. Tommas himself often tries to please. He's terrified of losing his comrades after all he's endured, and often has nightmares of his comrades dying. He's loyal to a fault, and a hard worker. But his sadistic streak, runs a mile wide, and he has an issue controlling his bloodlust, and will often exterminate his opposition with brutality, which he takes enjoyment from. He has the onset of mental illness, and in recent months has become more violent and unpredictable.
- Weapon of Choice: X-11E Sonic Rifle
- Combat Function: Tommas has two defined tactics he likes to perform. Either holding the line, or aggressive attacking, though he prefers the former. Years of working as a combat engineer, meant the enemy came to you, and that’s how Tommas predominantly likes to play. He’ll hold a defensive position, and prefers the enemy to wear themselves out before pressing aggressively.
- However, that is not to mistake Tommas as no go getter. Although he mainly performed defensive fighting, Tommas can and will go on the offensive, smartly using his corners to effect, and able to expertly use explosives to force them out of cover. He enjoys little more than to charge at an unprepared enemy, and realise that he’s coming for them.
- In terms of weapons reportiore, Tommas enjoys the use of sonic rifle. It’s a weapon with a wide area of effect, and scatters enemy formations. It also holds the distinction as one of the few weapons that can be used to kill a Jedi, and they’d be powerless to stop it. Additionally, in his arsenal, Tommas makes extensive use of improvised explosives. Whenever he’s not using his sonic carbine, he can be found using his rifle.
- But there is one detriment to Tommas, he can often be a violent, and volatile combatant, who gives into his primal sadistic urges. Even if there’s enemy artillery fire, he’ll find a wounded enemy, one who perhaps is in shock, or has lost a leg. Tommas then will put a pistol in their mouth, and watch as they panic, attempt to reconcile with themselves, and then panic when they realise he wants to beat them to death with his baton. Such behaviour is childish, and typically looked down upon, but Rexus indulges him out of a mixture of fear and respect for his “art” form.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Tommas Heralt was born on the planet of Alderraan, the illicit product between a politician in the Thule clan, and a Jedi. Tommnas didn’t know this of course, as the politically minded Thule immediately disposed of the child, sending it to an orphanage run by a Jedi sponsored charity. Tommas grew up in the overcrowded orphanage, which saw constant arrivals with the instability settling in the Outer Rim. Athough it was funded by the Republic, it never saw enough funding to expand facilities, or new staff, only being able to barely cover the inflating cost of rations. Because of this overextension of resources, Tommas never saw much attention as a child, from any of the nurses. The overcrowding saw him abandoned, and because of that, he never received the education he needed to succeed.
Bullying was rife, with the care providers unable to provide the appropriate resources and manpower care that was necessary to police all the children. Because of this, Tommas was victimised from a young age, and learned a lesson. There were no niceities, it was only survival of the fittest. Tommas became a volatile child, who while being bullied, became a bully. He would routinely beat other children for their extra food, access to toys and the like. Although he was caught and counselled, he never repented, and the way the Alderaanians handled people like him was farcical.
It wouldn’t be until he was fifteen, when Tommas was caught kissing a Twi’lek his own age, that he was then thrown out of the orphanage. Disgruntled at having lost his home, Tommas remained bitter and angry at those who had raised them, and inspired a life long hatred of . Needing a job that paid, Tommas picked up scavenging and salvaging. Firstly it was small time stuff, like picking through junkyards, but soon enough he was picked up by a crew, and put into their outfit.
Tommas learned the tips and tricks of ship maintainence, and how to put together machinery, and pill it apart. But most importantly, chemistry. Tommas’ crew eventually became bold, and moved to space salvage, where they began to dock with th wrecks of Galactic Republic ships, and steal what they could. Tommas stuck with the salvagers, until he was nineteen, when he saw an offer he couldn’t refuse.
While in One Sith territory, Tommas picked up a flier advertising recruitment in the One Sith’s armed forces. The pay was great, and the promise of weapons training, as well as camaraderie all appealed to Tommas. It seemed like an offer too good to refuse, and so, armed with information, he quit salvaging then and there. For the next three years, Tommas trained in the One Sith Army, becoming a fully trained and capable combat engineer.
Tommas served with the 43rd Engineers Company, a unit which primarily saw policing and garrison duties, something which suited Tommas just fine. As the One Sith continued to expand its reach, the 43rd saw action in many Core systems, suppressing dissent and anarchy which prevailed after an annexation. Because of this sort of work, Tommas learned a lot about improvised explosives, and guerrilla warfare. Something that stuck with him was the ability of people to create weapons using materials easily accessible in everyday homes.
Tommas became a veteran combatant, who was skilled in counter-insurgency activities. His work as a contra-guerrilla earned him the moniker of the Reaper, because he’d be sent to flush out resistance fighters in tunnels, and bunkers. Tommas loved the reputation he’d gained, and flaunted it. As the One Sith became more fractious, the 43rd Engineers became more and more brutal in their occupational duties. They needed to show that despite the infighting consuming the Sith, that the Dark Lord’s grip on power would not be subverted.
As apart of this new doctrine, occupational garrisons became increasingly vindictive in their approaches. They would begin to execute prisoners indiscriminately and publicly in a brazen show of force. Tommas was particularly brutal, and preferred tying his prisoners to four separate poles, forcing them to lie, all limbs spread to near dislocation, and then starting a fire beneath them. Tommas found a special kind of pleasure in watching his enemies burn.
Because of his excellent work in subjugating territories and combat record, over a half decade Tommas progressed from the lowly rank of private, to captain. However, Tommas’ captaincy was brief. In the dying days of the One Sith, many of the garrisons which had at one point stood as symbols of the One Sith’s oppression of the Galaxy, were remobilised, and pressed into frontline service against the Galactic Alliance. The results were awful.
Although many of the units were used to dealing with crowd control, and suppressing enemies, the fact was, was that many units were simply unprepared for the weight of liberation. While deployed on the Mid Rim world of Dahrtag, the 43rd Engineers fought bitterly to the end. However, with the prospect of liberation upon them, a literal human wave of civilians stormed the pillboxes and trenches created by the 43rd. Although many were gunned down in the human wave attack, the rioting civilians tore through, and began to beat the One Sith troopers to death.
Those who weren’t killed in the initial attack, like Tommas, were dragged out in a nearby public square, where the local butcher began to carve them up, like Kaine Zambrano had done so years before. Although thy had only been repositioned on Dahrtag, for about two weeks, Tommas’ infamy carried over. The civilians pelted him with stones, before the butcher, using his cleaver, cut Tommas’ jaw, including tongue off.
Tommas, bleeding like a stuck pig was hoisted up by his feet from a third storey balcony and left to writhe in pain as he watched his squadmates executed. Tommas watched as men and women he’d been working with for near ten years, be burned alive on a pile of One Sith propaganda and ammunition. The effect of that on a psychological level was staggering. As soon as the executions died down, the citizenry vacated the square, and Tommas was left hanging.
However, as luck would have it, a storm blew in, and the rough wind, managed to blow through, Tommas was freed from his precarious position. He landed on the ashes of his friends, and banners. The captain crawled from the ashes, not able to believe his luck, and stumbled away from the town. For three days, Tommas roamed the countryside, finding it difficult to eat, and breath. His whole throat shrivelled as moistened tissue began to dry out.
On the third afternoon, Tommas was picked up by GADF forces. Tommas managed to play himself off as a victim of the One Sith’s fanaticism. Tommas was transferred to a hospital, where he was given treatment for his wounds, a blender to blend his food, and a moisturiser for his mouth. Due to the scorched earth policy ordered by the One Sith, there were no cybernetics. Although promised the appropriate surgery by the Galactic Alliance medical staff, Tommas escaped the hospital, fearing his cover would be broken.
Disguising himself as Tognath, after having shaved his head, he fled the planet, and returned to the closest One Sith planet. But it was all too late, the Battle of Coruscant happened, and the Galaxy’s largest empire had collapsed. Tommas upon arrival, on Coruscant saw a world of anarchy. The teachings of the Sith, which he idolised had been shattered. The loss of his friends, his unit, and his purpose broke Tommas. From that day forward, he swore revenge on the Galactic Alliance.
Using his tactics as a contra-guerrilla, Tommas began to wage a one man war of attrition against the Alliance. Armed with experience creating homemade explosives, putting them in letters and then sending them to local government offices. Within the first three years, he had six deaths under his belt, and two dozen maiming’s. By the fourth, as he perfected his technique, he nearly tripled that figure.
Frantically, the SIS began to search for Tommas, who now moved from place to place. New mailing procedures meant that the bombs no longer worked, so Tommas adapted. Using cover as a scavenger, he began to directly attack his targets. Setting up speeder bombs, and bombs. As the media caught wind that the SIS believed it was one suspect, the moniker, “Parcel Bomber” became used. With the new fear he spread in the Core, came fame and contact from Avengers.
The Avengers were a network of former One Sith spies, politicians and military personnel, who had gone underground after the dissolution of it. The Avengers, angered that their previous masters had been brought down, and the order created had been dissolved, now resisted. Although they had been so far successful in creating intelligence networks, and a small force, they hadn’t yet engaged the prevailing Alliance forces.
Seeing some ability, and the possibility of an alliance between them, the Avengers tracked down Tommas to small rural farmstead on Khomm. It was there that Tommas was contacted by their membership, who wished to thank him for their work. They managed to hook Tommas up with a cybernetic jaw, and expanded resources, contacts and ammunition.
Armed with this, the bombings became more widespread, within hours, there would be mass casualties on Coruscant, Atrisa and Teyan. For three months, over two dozen explosions rocked the Galactic Alliance’s holdings in the Core. The Avengers became more ruthless, targeting the families of SIS and GADF High Command to break their conviction. To break their control.
But this bravado would spell the end for Tommas’ near ten year reign of terror. Tommas’ days were numbered after the death of SIS Commander Germaine Weltz’s families deaths at the hand of an explosion caused by Tommas. Fuelled by anger and vengeance, the crack down on the Avengers was brutal and swift. Although they broke more than two dozen procedures and laws during the retributory acts.
Although the SIS had been investigating the Avengers for some time, but now the vice came down. Every informant was squeezed, every lead followed, and over the course of two weeks, the Alliance brought down the Avengers. The meticulously planned structure of it, brought down. Tommas’ hideout was the last attacked, and a pitched battle between Special Forces and the Spe was fought in the warehouse they operated out of.
The Avengers held out valiantly for a good twelve hours, but tactical air strikes and a contant stream of reinforcements meant their reign was at an end. When the time came for a body count, SIS felt happy in that they’d bagged everyone, including all the bombers. Unbeknownst to them, Tommas had escaped. As the fighting closed, Tommas’ fled the battlefield, and managed to make his way to the nearby spaceport, where the Avengers had stored a transport for one of their dummy corporations.
Sensing the Core worlds were no longer safe to operate in, Tommas pragmatically flew a cargo vessel to the First Order territories, on a trip that took about a week. Although rations had run out by the third day, Tommas survived to crash land in First Order space. It was there he declared his refugee status, and Dosuun he would make his home.
Tommas desperately tried to make a home in the peace. But twenty years of fighting would never leave him. The façade of a life without violence, or the brutality of war was a luxury he no longer afforded. In his time, trying to adjust to civilian life, he was plagued by his past. By what he had done, what he had endured. Although he’d lead his life as one with as little regrets as possible, it simply wasn’t possible for him to do that. He considered returning to the Core worlds, and returning to the one man war he had staged, but declined. If he was going out, it would be by some way else.
So, Tommas sold all his worldly possessions, and decided to join the Stormtrooper Corps. Tommas omitted his terrorist antics, but managed to submit his lengthy career in the 43rd. He was initially considered a liar, but when he managed to list his battles, and Ex-One Sith command staff could verify them, Tommas was allowed to serve.
But there would be a caveat to that. Mental health checks showed that he wasn’t exactly the most stable man ever. In fact, it showed that he was afflicted with the onset of schizophrenia and plagued with PTSD. But thanks to the Ssi-Ruuk incursions, and the need for more bodies on the battlefield, Tommas was admitted into the stormtroopers, albeit into the Gundark Gunners. Somewhere, where Central Command hoped he’d go postal, and maybe kill a few in some kind of psychotic episode.
Tommas fit right into the Gundark Gunners, whom he first fought on Skye with. Tommas’ brutality and twisted sense of humur made him fit right in. But while it did initially help him, he would often take jokes too far, and execute opponents in new and inventive ways that would often educate others on his methodology.
Despite his faults, and all round repugnant behaviour, Tommas managed to find friends within the Gunners. He and Dergan Twigg would often bond over a beer, and Rexus would often come to rely on his expertise in guerrilla warfare in the field. Tommas felt wanted and a camaraderie he hadn’t felt since the One Soth days. He felt so close, that he even disclosed his identity as the Parcel Bomber, and through that, earned the moniker Parcel, or Parcel Tom.
Tommas served with distinction through out the warzones he was sent to. He found the work invigorating, and particularly enjoyed breaking in the newbies, and hardening them for what came with war. However, his career with the Gundark Gunners would be cut short, after Supreme Commander Asharad Grash took issue with the Gunners war crimes on Skor. Crimes that Tommas gleefully indulged in more than others.
Tommas felt the same emptiness and sorrow he had when his unit had been executed on Dahrtag, and although relieved he’d survived, still felt shattered.
