Touching the Force

I didn't know where to start, so I hope this is ok. Anyone may feel free to come by and train with or assist Dair. I haven't placed it anywhere specific, because I don't know where to place it. It is a peaceful courtyard Somewhere.

[Xenoscaped Courtyard]

Dair approached a grouping of rocks of varying sizes that were placed in seemingly random order through a large area whose only plant life were a few cacti and shrubs. He paused outside a makeshift inner ring of rocks and closed his eyes. He cleared his mind with a few swift mental movements and allowed the Force to suffuse his mind and body. Dair inhaled through his nose, smelling the arid dryness of the terrain around him, the small scents of green shrubs and cactus pears ripening.

Dair stepped forward, breaching the inner circle of rocks and sat down. He settled himself on the sand for a moment before he opened his eyes. He looked at the circle of rocks around him, then over at the footprints that led to his current seat. He captured the footprints in his mind and closed his eyes, forcing distraction from his mind. In his minds eye, he imagined the footprints erased from the sand by a soft gust of wind. He firmed his mind on the concept of erasing the footprints and let the Force suffuse him once more. Keeping the image firmly placed in his Force suffused mind, he waved his hand toward the prints and released.

A blast of Force power erupted from Dair's hand and plowed a furrow straight back the way Dair had come. It eradicated the footprints going back a few hundred feet, and tore the sand away from the soil beneath for twenty feet from his palm. On either edge of the path he had taken, rocks the size of his head shifted as if rolled back from the path.

Dair frowned at the furrow, causing a similar one to form on his brow. Most people would be happy to have shown such power. Most people would be happily trying to find a way to increase the amount of power and destruction he could wring from the Force, molding the landscape to his whim. Dair, however, thought nothing like those people. Dair was different, he wouldn't shy from a fight, but he would rather have tight control and mastery rather than sheer power. He let the anger flow out of himself, he knew that such an emotion would do nothing but make him more destructive. He closed his eyes again and let the Force flow into him. He had a larger track to cover now.

Slowly, Dair lifted his hand and began to let the Force flow from his hand, trying to bring the sand, soil and rock back into order.

Corvus sat and watched the young man. They'd tentatively agreed he would be her new Padawan and she'd invited him to the picnic, but for now she watched him, from afar. You learned a lot more about a Padawan when you weren't there as opposed to when you were.

The gardens on Ossus were bountiful and varied and afforded many vantage points. So she observed him from the comfort of a bench. He was actually behind her and on the other side of a dense copse of tall trees, but Force Sight was handy that way, you didn't actually need to see them to be able to observe them.

What she admired most was his control and apparent desire not to simply blast things. It reminded her of the first time she'd met Sera - she was also adept at Telekinesis and she actually had a lesson with her shortly, hence the box of candles. But Corvus had time to spare and so watched and learned.

So focused on his self-appointed task of returning the xenoscaped garden to its natural state was Dair, that he neglected his natural empathic senses and did not notice that Master Raaf was observing him.

Dair strained against the urge to push the Force to do his bidding, he had spent enough of his life among Jedi to know that the Force didn't work well that way. Also, his earlier experience made him naturally resistant to forcing anyone or anything to his bidding. The intrusion of thoughts of his past broke his concentration, his deep connection to the Force lapsed to its normal level of ebb and flow.

Dair took a moment, he examined the thoughts of his past that had caused his concentration to break. He had spent the majority of his truly youthful years as a slave, being traded from one ship to the next. The emotions he still felt for the experience were sharp still, as if the pain and hardship had happened only days ago, rather than years. With a steady rhythm of inhales and exhales, he reviewed his emotions and laid each one aside like a broken thing waiting to be mended.

When he had, at last, reviewed and laid aside his emotions and thoughts of his past, Dair once again cleared his mind and welcomed the Force to flow through him. Despite his earlier troubles, this time it was a little easier to let the Force flow through his will. He methodically brought the soil that had been disturbed back over the scar in the ground. Then he shifted sand to cover the soil as it had before he had accidentally blasted it away.

Sweat beaded on his brow as he focused on the rocks, each one was made of different material, of different densities that were quite surprising. Carefully, he shifted the ones that he had blown back, back into the positions they had held originally. When the final rock settled into its appropriate position, he lowered his hand. He kept his meditative mindset for a few moments longer, mentally lounging in the feel of the Force before he allowed his conscious mind to become active once more and he opened his eyes.

His normal senses returned to the forefront of his mind, he noticed the feeling of being watched. Knowing he was in a safe environment, he didn't feel worried, though he did blush once he realized that he had spent who knows how long not noticing that he was under observation. Mild dread pitted his stomach, he didn't know a great deal about his new Master, but such a lapse wasn't good in any case. He would have to work on being able to focus on his training while keeping his senses open. The thought of it caused a few more beads of sweat to break out on his forehead.

[Different day, located after Pure in Spirit in chronology]

Dair sat in the courtyard on Ossus. He was once again in his earth tone Jedi tunic and pants, sitting in the butterfly position, palms bent around his knees. His boots were sitting next to him on the grass, his eyes were closed and a pale, icy blue crystal floated in front of him. For an area of about five meters around him, it would be extremely easy to sense Dair's presence in the Force as he was using a technique that he referred to as the Art of the Large. He was pushing his presence out, the refreshing, icy coolness that was his personal signature in the Force was melded into the Force around him. He wasn't yet able to immerse himself so far as to feel completely at one with the Force, but as he held it he felt more comfortable with it.

His strength in telekinesis was growing, using any chance he could to practice it, he was now comfortable enough with it to practice it and another Force power at the same time. At the moment he was only levitating a small crystal that was already attuning with him. Currently he was attempting to further attune it to himself by flooding it with his presence. He didn't know if he was doing it correctly, but figured it couldn't hurt and he was practicing either way. He had read a little bit of this in the archives, only references as material such as training manuals in advanced powers were restricted away from Padawans without permission. He probably could have gotten permission, but these attempts were helping him to further think about the visions that he had had on Rhen Var. No answers jumped out at him, but he felt much better about the path he was currently on.

He saw images in his mind when he went into these trances. At first they were general, more akin to memories of when he went to the funeral of the Silver Jedi Grand Master with his own Master. The world Voss. As he continued, the visions got more precise, eventually homing in on a set of icy mountains. He felt a pull to there, as if his answers would at least in part be found there. He knew that soon he would take a trip there, very soon. That could wait for the moment, the visions of icy mountains also helped focus, feeling a resonance with the imagery.
