Tournament of Sullust Fourth Match - Kira Vaal vs Kenna Raine

Biodrome Arena

It was the aftermatch of another great match. In the press box, Arex Adama turned to his broadcast partner Mori Otani Kane and gave him a smarmy smile.

"I'm excited for this final quarter-final match-up, Mori. If it's anything like the others, I might have a heart attack!"

"You'd better get the ambulance on stand-by, Arex! Get ready for another high octane match." As Kane spoke, highlight/promo packages played on the screen for both competitors. "We've got two unknowns in this one, but often these matches surpass our expectations. Kira Vaal looks tough and skillful, and Kenna Raine is representing the Mandalorian people. And you know they always bring it!"

"Can't wait, Mori. Now to our host."

The coverage cut to the arena, which was a large circle that was about eighty metres in diameter. The audience were protected by large bubble shields, which would hopefully keep out most of the flying projectiles. In the centre stood Na'Varro, smiling that award-winning smile.

"Ladies and gentlemen, IT'S TIME! For the final quarter final match, fighting out of Sullust, Kira Vaal!" The audience roared their approval. Two hot girls fighting was sending this testosterone-fueled crowd into overdrive. "In the opposite corner, the Mandalorian, Kenna Raine!"

Alen could hear the sound of coin being tipped into the Alliance's coffers.

"Begin!"

Match continues for one week or until a decisive outcome is reached. Good luck!

Kenna wasn’t in this for the title but for the prize money. The title was great and all and she was pretty sure that winning would go over great with the family that she would soon be marrying into but that wasn’t what she was in for. The money could be stashed away for a honeymoon getaway, a home, or even for her family’s farm. Kenna didn’t have much as it was and what little she did certainly wasn’t going towards something in her past.

The fighting skills she had were something that she had most recently gotten used to. All the hunting trips and missions that she went on with Malcom and the crew helped her learn where her strengths and weaknesses lied. She was able to tweak things as needed to get better results and to be a better warrior.

Before today, Kenna had always fought in a group setting. This would be her first real solo fight but this woman didn’t need to know that. Kenna was confident in herself and her abilities to get the job done. It was just that in this case she didn’t have backup. She had on her duresteel armor, two blasters on her hips, and a few smoke grenades and other fun toys in her side pocket. There was nothing super fancy because now wasn’t the time to be trying things out. Kenna was going to give it all she and in truth she knew that the Mandalorians would probably just be proud of her for trying.

As the crowd roared Kenna looked to her opponent Kenna tried to gauge her emotions and her first move. She didn’t know much about her as not much information had been given to her but Kenna was unphased. Force User or not the young woman could hold her own for now she would wait and allow her to make the first move.

Why was she doing this again?

It had been nearly a year since Kira had launched herself head first into the big wide galaxy in search of the rumoured buckets of credits that could be made in archeological and exploration, yet now here she was in the middle of what could only be called organised chaos.

It was all Kaia’s fault. Or was it Coren’s. She wasn’t sure but someone had put her name down and now that someone was having a good laugh at her expense. Then again this tournament of mindless violence was all about young and upcoming members of the Galactic Alliance, something she apparently was.

The stadium itself was full, or so the announcer had declared. Credits had been poured into the book keepers pockets and the advertisements were done, now all that was left was the fight itself.
Great.

Kira had no real speciality, but had chosen what was necessary for the job. She wore light clothing with no real armour armour. It would allow her to move fast, or at least that was the plan. Her weapon was a simple staff made of a light durasteel based alloy, which would hopefully be a good length to keep her opponent at a distance. She also held a blaster in her holster, she was pretty sure she wasn’t allowed to use that though.

A loud chime indicated the start of the match and Kira made the first move by closing the distance and swinging her staff upwards towards the face of the armoured woman.

Kenna watched as her opponent took a step towards her eying the staff as she did. The young woman couldn't help but wonder if it was just a staff or if perhaps it was something more. Her educated guess was that it was something more because it being just a staff seemed silly to Kenna. It's not like she was expecting to beat her opponent into submission so the staff was something that the would need to be watched closely.

In an arena like this Kenna realized that all the gear wasn't needed. It was what she trained in though and for her it would seem very weird for her not to fight in it. In truth the audience would probably rather see the two wrestle in the mud or something. That would really be a show for them but sadly, for them at least, that wasn't what they were going to get. This was not that type of event but that didn't mean there wouldn't be action. Her future husband was out in that crowd and she wanted to show him what he was about to marry.

Taking a few steps forward Kenna reached into the side pouch of her armor to pull out a smoke grenades. It was type to get this party started and the crowd rolling even more. She was starting simple at first leaving the bigger things for later in the fight. This would only serve to impair her opponent's vision so she could better hide. Kenna's vision would be fine due to nighttime vision mode. Throwing it she reached for her blaster and took two shots towards the girl.

If everything went according to plan a white smoke would cover the arena which would block the view of the audience however they would be able to hear the blaster shots. The white smoke would clear after five minutes tops and that number was being generous.

Cheering masses didn’t overshadow the tinging of metal against the ground and oh what a wonderfully charming and welcoming sound it was. Kira looked towards it’s source and with wide eyed realisation noticed the cylindrical objects rolling nearby.

“Grenades?” Seriously someone was going to have to explain why the frell she wasn’t told about the exact level of ordinance she would be required to fight. She had heard duelist, not stand in an arena until you die.
Either way complaint or not survival tactics took over much like they do when you notice a set of grenades at your feet and Kira threw her body sidewards away from the devices.

A solid thud against the dirt saw her land on her chest, heavily at that. Which hurt. Then the ‘explosion’ happened, both grenades released a hiss that made the breath leave Kira’s lungs in relief. Smoke. Booing from the crowd indicated their dislike towards the tactic as it would cover their view, which at the end of the day was why they had paid good credits to get seats. To watch them duke it out, how civilised of the locals.

Quickly Kira lifted herself to her feet, trails of dust following in her wake as she sprinted towards the spewing smoke and gave the closest the best kick she could, if only it had been that easy in grav-ball try outs she might have actually made the team. The grenade scattered to the edge of the area where it sat against the side wall reducing the amount of direct smoke in the area.

She couldn’t reach the other one however. Her vision became barely there, clouded by the thick cover that had been ejected over the stadiums floor.
“Oh crap.” Kira breathed, a pair of blaster shots filling the air where she had been a while ago. “She’s actually trying to kill me. Great.” The Starchasers were really gonna pay.

She had no idea where the next blow would come from, so the best thing to do was stand still, slow her breathing and focus on her surroundings…Smoke…all the surroundings a girl needs it would seem.
