Tournament of the Blade Round Two: Xilo Gale vs Ordo

Ashin Varanin

Professional Enabler
You know the rules. No Force, no tech, no armor, no tricks, just one or two swords of good metal.

As Krest has run into technical difficulties, the alternate is Xilo Gale.

***
MYRKR

The match is taking place on a rope bridge with a floor of five-foot-long wooden planks in good condition. The bridge is suspended over water. Touch the water, or the land at either end of the fifty-foot bridge, and you're disqualified. The ropes are old, scratchy, primitive, but in good condition like the wood. The rope side 'rails' of the bridge are three and a half feet above the planks. As with everywhere else on Myrkr, the Force does not work here. It is evening, and a fog makes the bridge slightly slippery but does not impede visibility.

Ordo stood on the bridge his in simple grey overalls. His black and green jungle boots gripped against the wooden planks but he could tell the fog had made them slick. The air smelled of detritus and wet air as he awaited his opponent. The fog clung to his short military cut brown hair as he waited. His scar riddled face a mask of patience though the desire for the battle grew strong. It was a glorious thing when two became locked in combat. He longed for the clash of bone and sinew, the feeling that your next breath may never come, the burning inside of you that wills you to keep fighting though your body screamed relent. He held his simple black combat knife in reverse grip as he stood resting his hands on the ropes. He was ready and he woulf fight. Whether he won the day or fell to his enemy he would do so with honor and glory.

Xilo walked through the fog splitting it as though he were some significant being. The first thing that could be seen was his stark white hair as he exited the fog head first and thin his scared midnight skin came into view. Scar's covered the body from his neck to his waist where they ended. All he wore was a pair of straight black combat pants his feet covered with matching combat boots. On his hips sat two daggers each in their sheaths for the moment till he could see his opponent. The man's face just as scared as Xilo's own. The man was obviously older and more experienced then Xilo but he still looked like buttons could be pushed here and there. Taking a glance up and down at his opponent from his attire down to the weapon he wielded Xilo prepared himself. Reaching down he drew both daggers letting them spin his hands before one landed in a reverse hand grip and the other in a regular forward grip. His feet spaced evenly apart his left leg placed slightly father up then the right. "After you." Xilo said simply looking across at his opponent a dull look in his eyes.

Ordo assumed his stance left foot forward, feet about should width apart knees bent slightly. His left hand made a loose fist as he brought it up to eye level, while his right hand moved to just above his waist arm bent. He steped carefully right foot to left heel then left foot forwadforward as he drew near. His eyes narrowed on his opponent as he jerked his right shoulder forward in a feint trying to goad the other fighter into attacking or defending.

He would quickly switch his grip so the blade was no longer in reverse grip after the feint and move to offer a vertical slash at Xilo's arm from shoulder to hip making sure to not over extend his reach.

Seeing his opponent jerk his right forward Xilo imitated him a calm demeanor now on his face but his eyes shined like a child showing how much he was truly going to enjoy this. He did spread his arms out a bit wider his left arm with the dagger held in a reverse grip. He brought his right hand forward in a stab appearing to go for the man's ribs but that's when he saw the slash coming towards him. Holding up his own arm Xilo would move it so the combat knife would dig into his arm. Even putting force behind it Xilo would make sure the blade embedded itself into his skin. Something a sane person would never do. The pain shot through his arm making him groan in enjoyment as it flooded through him. Kicking off with both legs Xilo would move them to try and wrap around the man's neck in a grapple move while he'd lock his spare arm around the man's own and would bend it trying to break the bone.

His opponent was brave and tough. To willingly accept the bite of Ordo's testing forward slash was a testament to his confidence. Perhaps Ordo would have done the same in his youth. He Jerked back the knife as his enemy's feet left the ground. His knees bending further to drop both his frame and center of gravity. As the other combatant's legs neared where his head was he raised hishands right hand still holding the knife and pushed up again with his legs while sweepimg his hands to the left. The move was designed to simply push the airborn opponent off the rope bridge and onto the ground below. No malice no hate just an old war horse doing what training told him to do.

His opponent was smarter than what Xilo had gave him credit for as he was quick enough to rip the knife back out of Xilo's flesh after Xilo had taken the hit from it. The wound caused a hot pain to flare in that part of his arm, but Xilo was more concerned with what was going to happen next. He felt himself being pushed away and his heart rose into his throat, and as he began to pass the rope Xilo reached out with his legs to hook onto the rope and keep himself from completely falling but he would make it seem as though his strategy failed as he would allow his body to slide out of his opponents view. Dropping the dagger in the arm that had been stabbed and sheithing the other Xilo used what strength he had to grasp onto the wooden planks and swing his body on the bridge in an attempt to twist it and make his opponent fall.

[member="Matsu Xiangu"] and I have reviewed the duel and concluded that the winner of the fight is...
Ordo
I think this duel was really hurt by the lack of posting, which is unfortunate, because it was on its turning point there at the end. Using the bridge, on both sides, was creative for the nature of the scenario. However, Ordo had more clarity in his attacks and overall, more understanding of the physical dynamics of the fight. Xilo, there were a couple of instances where your descriptions kind of ran on (this is a grammatical critique). While it shouldn't have bearing on the fight, it was a bit jarring at times and just something to look for in the future.

Ordo, a couple of times, your descriptions left a bit to be desired (which shoulder are you attacking in post #5), though were determined to be inconsequential. On top of this, a good deal of time went between posts (between 4 and 5). Keep an eye on this, as we will be as well for your next duel. And both of you, please take the time for spell check - it's your friend. This concludes Reverances house of Pain. Tough love my friends, tough love.

Seriously though, I do wish this had gotten going. The dynamics and the movement on the bridge was leading to something, it just didn't get around to it. As always, congrats to the winner, Ordo, and we look forward to reading more from both of you.
