Jorga the Hutt
When life gives you Mandos, make Mando'ade
Intent: A versatile but limited ysalamir alternative.
Development Thread:
Model: Trakar (mando'a: 'void steel')
Affiliation: Mandalorians (PCs only)
Modularity: None
Production: Semi-unique
Material: Mandalorian steel, void stone smelted according to a proprietary process
Strengths:
Description: Void stone, a somewhat crumbly black rock native to Otherspace (and rare even there), is one of the rarest and most expensive substances around. Very few people have experimented with it in any serious way. One of them is Rel Connory, billionaire Mandalorian inventor and designer of the galaxy’s premiere Otherspace exploration craft. With the aid of expert Mandalorian smiths, including Draco Vereen and Ijaat Mereel, Connory developed a process to smelt void stone into usable metal. As with most meteor iron, void stone must be layered and worked into another metal. In this case, Mandalorian steel or euk’gar proved to be the most effective partner.
The resulting metal is physically unimpressive. Half a step below durasteel in most ways, it can be worked into decent-to-good armor plates or blades. Against unprepared Force-sensitives, however, voidsteel equipment can be absolutely devastating. Due to the particles of void stone within the metal, a voidsteel blade ('trakad') can cut Force lightning; a voidsteel shield can dissipate a Force push; a voidsteel throwing knife is immune to telekinetic redirection; a voidsteel helmet can keep the wearer safe from telepathic intrusion. Even grappling with a voidsteel-armored ('trakar'gam') Mandalorian can interfere with a Jedi's Force connection. In some ways, voidsteel is a Mandalorian equivalent to Yuuzhan Vong biots, without all the biological mess and general unMandoness. Another comparison might be the proprietary alchemized terentatek leather of Akure Executive Interstellar, leather which resists direct Force abilities. Still another comparison might be velokite, the rare void stone-based research/insulation material.

Modularity: None
Production: Semi-unique
Material: Mandalorian steel, void stone smelted according to a proprietary process
Strengths:
- Voidsteel interferes with the Force. Basic armor ('trakar'gam') made of voidsteel can weaken or nullify Force abilities, and surrounds the wearer in a two-centimetre aura comparable to a ysalamir field. A basic blade ('trakad') made of voidsteel can intercept and destroy many tangible Force abilities (lightning Sith spells, etc.). A room plated in voidsteel would be impossible for a farseer to discern or a telekinetic to rip open.
- Voidsteel resists lightsabres as wood resists an axe.
- Voidsteel is very difficult to make; some consider it more difficult than beskar.
- Voidsteel requires void stone, which originates only in Otherspace, and has been only rarely found in realspace at the sites of some Charon incursions. The raw materials for void stone are thus extremely limited and expensive, requiring the Mandalorians to take steps to secure ongoing supplies of void stone.
- Voidsteel, all things considered, really isn’t that great of a metal. For durability, holding an edge, and general energy resistance, it’s about half a step below durasteel. Voidsteel armor, without any other reinforcement, is usually around class 5-7. Voidsteel swords, being partially made of Mandalorian steel, can block lightsabres in the most limited sense: sabres notch the blade and chop through after any kind of protracted duel.
- Voidsteel is less powerful than a chunk of void stone (i.e., its aura of Force-nullification doesn’t reach nearly as far, a couple of centimetres versus several metres), which is itself less powerful than a basic ysalamir.
- It is absolutely impossible to use any Force crafting method (alchemy, imbuement, Jal Shey arts, etc.) to alter or enhance voidsteel in any way whatsoever.
- A Force-sensitive who wears voidsteel armor ('trakar'gam') will be unable to touch the Force; a Force-sensitive who carries a voidsteel sword ('trakad'), or any other large piece of voidsteel, will find his or her Force-sensitivity impaired by one rank (Master to Knight, Knight to Apprentice, Apprentice to untrained). Smaller pieces have a lesser but noticeable effect.
- Let's be real: any submission involving voidsteel is going to get a higher level of scrutiny and possibly be asked for additional dev. I'd call that a weakness right there.
