- Dorsal Section
- Slave-Rigged — This ship has a slave circuit system which has significantly reduced the manpower requirements of the Trantor-class.
- All Around — The Trantor-class has a sufficient amount of speed, armaments, defense features, and support from its complement, to challenge most ships in their size bracket.
- Targeting System Jamming — The Trantor-class has been equipped with a Erebus Jamming Array which can be used to interfere with the targeting systems of opposing ships to try and reduce the accuracy of their long-ranged barrages.
- Carrier — The Trantor-class has increased hangar capacity which allows this ship to carry more small craft.
- Speed — The Trantor-class is well-equipped to engage in pursuit of fast-moving targets.
- Gulfstream — The Trantor-class was equipped with the Gulfstream Maneuvering System which uses gravitationally-enhanced gyroscopic stabilizers to increase maneuverability at the expense of speed.
- Probes — The Trantor comes equipped with a complement of twenty Skyeye Probe Droids which can be launched to survey nearby worlds.
- Drop Pods — The Trantor-class has been equipped with an array of tubes to launch AT-RD Drop Pods, allowing the Trantor-class to rapidly deploy troops planet-side to secure a landing zone.
- Exposed Bridge — The command bridge of the Trantor-class is located inside a tower structure which is an easy target for enemy harassment.
- EMP Weapons — The Trantor-class does not have adequate resistance to weapons or natural phenomena that cause electrical disturbances.
- Erebus Jamming Array
- Optimal Jamming Range — The the Erebus Jamming Array operates best when the enemy ships are at a far distance. As the enemy draws nearer, the array's effectiveness at misdirecting enemy fire correspondingly decreases.
- Signal Interference — The Erebus Jamming Array becomes ineffective under certain environmental conditions. When the Trantor-class enters a nebula or similar space phenomena, the surrounding radiation and matter can weaken the array's ability to connect with and mislead enemy targeting systems.
- Slave Rigged — Because a significant portion of the Trantor-class has been automated, this ship has increased vulnerability to Slicing and EMP weaponry.
- Dorsal Firing Arc — The heaviest weapon emplacements of the Trantor-class are situated on the topside of this ship, which leaves its ventral area noticeably vulnerable to ship-to-ship combat.
- Exposed Rear — The aft section of the ship completely lacks any weapon emplacements, which leaves the engines of the Trantor-class vulnerable to enemy harassment.
- Gulfstream
- Gravity Flux — When the Gulfstream Maneuvering System is activated creates a signature that is can be easily detected from a great distances by standard sensor systems.
- Reduced Speed — When the Gulfstream Maneuvering System is activated, the ship decreases in speed to increase its maneuverability.
- Maneuverability — Even with the inclusion of the Gulfstream-class Maneuvering System, the Trantor-class lacks the ability to quickly evade fast-moving objects, like a last-ditched suicidal run from a starfighter.
- Drop Tubes — Protruding from the ventral sections of Trantor-class are launch tubes designed to deploy AT-RD Drop Pods. Targeted enemy fire could damage a number of these tubes and hinder this ship's ability to deploy troops.
The Federal Cooperative received a contract in 801 ABY from a consortium of sectoral governments to create a series of frigates. Rather than reinventing the wheel, the Federal Cooperative decided to base the new class on the Vindicator-class, an antiquated design from the Sienar Fleet Systems. Aside from slight differences in their dimensions, a significant source of difference between the new hull and the Vindicator-class, would be the incorporation of a reconfigurable ventral frame to allow interchangeable modules to be rapidly replaced to extend the shelf life of the ship hull.
The Federal Cooperative would initially create three variants on behalf of the consortium of sectoral governments: 1.) general purpose frigate, 2.) surveillance frigate, and 3.) missile frigate. Following the successful development and sell of these ships, the Federal Cooperative would initiate another round of development to create additional frigates using the same hull layout. The first to succeed the original three would be the Trantor-class
