Intent: To provide Travot with a ranged weapon / piece of armor
Development Thread: Upon the rocks of paradise
Manufacturer: Travot Ravenna / Jedi Academy technicians
Model: N / A
Affiliation: Travot Ravenna
Modularity: None
Production: Unique
Material: Cortosis, durasteel, Duralumin, nerf hide
Classification: Projectile Launcher / Vambrace
Size: Handheld
Length: 26 centimeters
Weight: 3.4 kilograms
Ammunition Type: Durasteel Disks
Ammunition Capacity: 4 shots of 3 discs
Effective Range: 30 meters
Rate of Fire: semi-automatic

Special Features:

-Force-activated firing trigger
-impervious to lightsabers
-provides resistance against energy-based attacks via cortosis construction

Strengths:

-Concealed Weapon: It's not immediately obvious that the armored bracer is a projectile weapon. Moreover, since its firing stud is triggered, and can only be triggered by the Force (like canon Lanvaroks), it's not immediately obvious when he's firing it either.

-Cortosis Construction: The outer protruding work of the bracer is made out of cortosis-woven Duralumin, granting it exceptional resistance to energy attacks, especially lightsabers. This was inspired by the fact that several known examples of the lanvarok were known to be cortosis-woven. The inner darker portions are made out of much purer cortosis ore. Consequently, while a glancing attack by a lightsaber is only likely to resist an attack, a forceful impact between a saber and the inner portions is likely to temporarily shut off an opponent's blade, just like a cortosis gauntlet.

Silent: Like the Vac Blade that actually forms the core component of his lanvarok, Travot's Lanvarok is completely silent in its firing operation.

Weaknesses:

Limited Ammunition: Like both the Lanvarok and the vac blade, the weapon only has a limited number of shots before it must be reloaded, which typically takes far longer than the average blaster or slugthrower. Each set of three disks must be inserted manually by hand.

Limited Range: Compared to conventional weaponry, the weapon has an shorter range than normal, even compared to either blaster or slugthrower pistols.

Description: Inspired by the apocryphal tales of the redemption of Darth Paenetit, Travot endeavored to make a lanvarok like that of one of his role models. However, since the weapons were rare, and none were available for him to examine, Travot decided to base his on the Vac Blade which he acquired from at a trading bazaar. The guts of this weapon were then modified to accept more ammunition at the cost of making it bulkier, and the firing mechanism was reworked so that it could only be fired by flicking an internal switch with the Force. The mechanism otherwise to continues to work exactly like a traditional Vac Blade, silently firing three durasteel disks per shot. As with the original, the three disks are typically aimed at the same target, though with somewhat a greater difficulty each disk can also hit different target. All of the disks hitting a single target is equivalent to a typical heavy blaster pistol bolt, while each disk impact itself is equivalent to being hit with a sporting blaster pistol.

He then traveled to Bal'demnic where he met Abbi Odell and mined several solid chunks of cortosis for this project (see here). When he arrived back at the Academy, several technicians and droids helped him refine it for use in armoring the vac blade mechanism and the vambrace which mounted the weapon. The external metalwork is made out of cortosis-woven duralumin, which keeps the weight down and which is typically benign to touch with one's bare skin, but it also makes it resistant to energy attacks, including those of a lightsaber. The inner darker portions are made out of a much purer form of cortosis, like those used on the Imperial Knight's gauntlets. If a lightsaber blade makes contact with this portion of the vambrace, the blade is likely to temporarily short out. This metalwork wraps around the front of his forearm but ends a bit after it enters the inner forearm on either side because of the fastening device. This exposes what is a typically centimeter wide portion of his forearm that is only covered by the layers of nerf hide that serves as the padding and insulation for the vambrace. The disks themselves fly out of the gap between the first and second armor plates. The actual metalwork design recalls several of the trials that Darth Paenetit took on his road to redemption, and Travot tends to look at the vambrace and think of that sith's redemption for inspiration.

Please continue this thread until you've made a post verifying that you have secured cortosis via mining/raiding/etc.

This can mean just posting one more time stating that you have collected the materials, but thus far the thread appears to be incomplete.

Okies.
