Faction |TRE| Twilight Over Bakura

BAKURA

The once-proud world of Bakura has fallen under the iron grip of an extremist faction known only as The Dominion. Comprised of zealots from all walks of life, this group believes the Force to be a curse—an existential threat to all sentient beings. They have overthrown the planet's legitimate government and infiltrated its major corporations, dismantling the very institutions that once made Bakura a world of galactic importance.

Their ambition is the creation of a pseudo-republic, one that claims to represent each world within their sphere fairly—while simultaneously enslaving or exterminating anyone with Force sensitivity. Fueled by fanaticism, they've built a formidable military presence and a navy that has begun to attract attention. Worse still, they've succeeded in capturing and enslaving Force Users, turning them into weapons to hunt their own kind.

Now, by decree of the Emperor, Bakura is to become the new capital of the Risen Empire. The Dominion and its Republic-born ideals are to be eradicated—utterly and without mercy. Any who refuse to yield to the might of the Imperial war machine will be crushed. A full communications blackout is to be enforced to ensure that word of this purge never escapes the system.

Objective One: Naval Battle
ScqxiWk.png
A substantial Dominion naval force surrounds Bakura, composed of a diverse array of warships from across the galaxy. Though mismatched in design, each vessel is modern and state-of-the-art, posing a serious threat. The Imperial Navy is to initiate a full blockade of the system, ensuring no ship escapes, followed by the systematic destruction of any vessel that does not immediately surrender to the Emperor's forces.

These are not amateurs—they are seasoned combat veterans, drawn from former galactic militaries and hardened by war. They will not be swayed by threats or intimidation, and even overwhelming numerical superiority is unlikely to compel them to surrender. The Dominion fleet must be treated as a capable and determined enemy—and eliminated with precision.

Objective Two: Ground Battle
2uQDwAa.png

On the ground, the city of Salis D'aar is under the control of specialized Dominion shock troops—heavily armed, heavily armored, and highly experienced. These soldiers are battle-hardened veterans, many of whom have witnessed their homeworlds ravaged by the endless wars of the Jedi and Sith. Their hatred runs deep, and they fight with zealous fervor for the ideals of their fledgling proto-republic.

They will not retreat. They will not surrender. These troops are known for their brutality, displaying a sadistic fondness for torture—burning captives alive, dismembering foes with explosives, and turning every encounter into a bloodbath. They are savage, relentless, and must not be underestimated.

Purge them. Reclaim the city.

Objective Three: Bring Your Own

If one of the objectives above does not appeal to you, feel free to undertake your own objective.

LOCATION: Salis D'aar

With the loss of our squad commander upon touching down in the LZ, a misfortunate accident that resulted in him breaking his leg, it fell upon me as the next in the chain of command to lead the squad. I knew the strengths and weaknesses of the squad, and well-versed in the military tactics taught at the Imperial Academy; better than most. I knew our mission objectives, having them uploaded into my memory core, and what was expected of us; to hunt down and eradicate the enemy.

Using old school hand gestures only known to our squad, opting for this system over com links for fear of enemy interceptions, I motioned the small group of Stormtroopers to move in and set a perimeter around the first building we encountered. We weren't the tradition front and line Stormies most are familiar with; we were a special unit who conducted black ops style missions. Only fools signed up for battlefield play.

I counted backwards from three on my right hand, and when the last finger dropped, the squad went into action. Doors were kicked in and windows smashed, followed by ion and emp grenades hurled inside the windowless frames to disrupt any technology the enemy may have in their possession. With the last of the flashing bangs concluding, the squad moved in opening fire on the dazed and defenseless enemy. Within seconds, the squad began speaking the 'all clear' phrase.

"Well done, gentleman," I said speaking in congratulation-like tones, "Search them, strip them, and tag them. Two-minutes and we move out."

SECURE BAKURA
ARRIVAL/SALIS D'AAR OUTSKIRTS

The fleet of the Risen Empire arrived in the space around Bakura with a mathematical precision that could only come from years of training and practice coupled with skilled planning. The entire network of space around the world was completely engulfed, and interdictors were set up to capture any vessels that might try and escape their fate. Shields were armed, weapons were ready, and volleys were sent towards the opposing forces defensive vessels almost as soon as the reversion to real space took place. The Dominion forces were completely caught off guard.

While the fleet cleared a path, numerous dropships launched to deploy the ground forces of the Empire to the world below. Their target was the capital city of Salis D'aar. Under fire from the planet's defenses, the ships landed their cargo of walkers, artillery pieces, and stormtroopers bent on taking control of the world. It was prime real estate, already a corporate power, and would easily make a good fortress world.

One of the dropships dropped off a mobile command center while another shuttle landed near to it. From that shuttle stepped a silver-haired man flanked by four black and red armored troopers. The man surveyed his surroundings and then approached the mobile command center with the troopers in tow. All around him, the sounds of the war machine churned, as walkers moved forward towards the city, stormtroopers marched, and artillery placed carefully aimed rounds onto military targets within.

Selrik, the silver-haired man, approached the front viewport of the command center with his hands clasped behind his back. He stared out as the battle that raged, not even flinching as blaster fire impacted the shields in front of him. Their weapons wouldn't penetrate the defenses of the facility. He had no reason to be afraid.

"Report," he said to the offer who stood looking over the holographic map of the battlefield.

"Progressing as expected, sir. We've encountered strong resistance, but they lack heavy armor. Strategically, the only possible issue we may face is in rooting them out of the numerous locations they'll go to ground in the city when their forces dwindle."

"That won't be a problem."

"Sir?"

Selrik said nothing further. The officer had no need to wonder about what would happen after the major battle was over. Bakura would fall to the might of the Empire, just as every system they targeted eventually would. Resistance would always exist. Those who sought to fight from the shadows would always be a thorn in their side. But there were those within the operational forces of the Risen Empire that specialized in hunting down rebels, holdouts, and the like. Even when they scurried like rats to their hiding holes they would not escape the will of the Emperor.

"Continue the assault. Push into the city and eliminate anyone holding a weapon or dressing in Dominion garb."

The fleet of the Risen Empire arrived in orbit of Bakura, homeworld of Corwin Kesyk, signalling the time for operations to begin. For months, House Kesyk and its assets had been undermining Dominion efforts to build up their defenses and sabotaging logistical efforts. Through guile, subterfuge and political assassination the ISB had been carrying out indirect action against the proto-Republic all awaiting this day.

And so it began.

As military forces clashed in orbit and Imperial shuttles and dropships landed assets onto the green and plateaus of Bakura, the ISB went active. Communication hubs were overran and Risen Empire agents took control, sending false orders and splitting Dominion forces to leave gaps in their defenses for the approaching Imperial Army who Corwin already knew were commanded by Selrik Lorcas Selrik Lorcas himself.

ISB agents then specifically targeted the proto-Republics leadership, hitting as many of their safehouses as they could on a pre-built list from months of surveillance and reconnaissance. It was a major operation months in the planning and the Dominion had no chance against such prepared and perfectly executed sabotage of their forces, communications and other assets. Especially from a source so deeply embedded within Bakura itself. For the Kesyks were Bakura.

And Corwin meant for the Emperor to rule it.

Knee high black boots echoed across the lavish palace floor of the High Court of Bakura as he entered the grand throne room itself. His white and black clad ISB agents stood around holding a secure perimeter in their field armor and wield their blaster rifles. Currently, said blasters were trained on the Dominion leader and his current inner circle. By all accounts, this had been a perfect snatch and grab. With the exception of one of their number having disappeared a month ago with no further word of their where abouts, something Corwin would look into post-victory.

As he came to a stop, Corwin looked over his new captives with a sneer and vicious smirk. One of the lesser inner council members stood and cursed him.

"Kesyk! I should have known your damnable family had something to do with thi-" A blaster shot cut the mans words short as he fell backwards, gasp coming from his compatriots as they pulled back.

The DT-29 was holstered back at Corwin's thigh as he interlocked his hands behind his back, shifting his cape in place.

"Bakura is now under the control of the Risen Empire. Effective immediately."

Echoing throughout my helmet, more and more reports were flooding in with the arrival of reinforcements; but also came the reports of strong defensive positions by the enemy. They were dug in well, and it appeared they had no desires of giving away ground to us; but that was the responsibility of the front-line boys and girls to uproot them. We had our orders.

Like clockwork, we had secured this building, and under two minutes we were moving out to our next objective when an order came through, redirecting us to a different objective as was the way when battles first start. Plans and objectives always change as the field of battle rotates, and succession weighed on those able to adjust quickly. Our new objective, take out a battery position that was knocking out our support fighters from the sky like pesky gnats with surface-to-air laser cannons.

Quickly I studied the new holomap and the coordinates to the new objective, and just as quickly plotted a course through the city, with the aid of the information from the chatter on where the heaviest of the fighting was occurring, that should get us to the battery quick and efficiently; avoiding most, if not all, potential setbacks like roaming patrols from the enemy. I knew we couldn't afford to get bogged down with petty squabbles.

As expected, we arrived undetected to the battery position, where three heavy cannons were firing consistently into the skies. That was about to change. Once more and utilizing hand signals I ordered three squad mates to creep and crawl toward the battery that appeared to be automated, with only a couple of the enemy soldiers on standby with thermal explosives to plant on those metal annoyances.

And when they got into place, I nodded my head and we opened fired on the unsuspecting enemy, whilst the trio attached the explosives to the triple cannons. When they returned back to our position, we watched with joy as the cannons became scrap metal.

"All clear," I announced into the connected com link back to base command. "Proceeding with our predetermined objectives."

Location: Salis D'aar
Objective 3: Head of the Snake

T'zarna Khab had never felt so lost, so hopeless. She had become a wanderer after the Empire of the Lost fell, and it's forces were scattered to the stars. She was a warrior without a hive, no guidance or leadership to bend her anger towards more useful pursuits. She had been created for servitude, and yet she had no master to serve. That was, until rumors filled the fringes of space of a new Empire, a new hive for her to serve. The tall insectoid stood inside of an Imperial transport shuttle, waiting for the moment to strike. When the ramp lowered itself, she ignited her saber, charging into the fray deep behind enemy lines.

Her task was fairly simple, to find and destroy the few powerful force users that were leading the forces of The Dominion. There were three of them, and each of them was akin to an experienced Jedi Knight. Together they would be difficult to defeat, which is why T'zarna would be employing a simple but effective tactic, Divide and Conquer.

Once the landing zone was clear of resistance, her and her Purge Trooper squad would disappear into the cityscape, hunting down the leaders of these zealots and defeating them. The hope was that this would put the enemy into disarray, and allow for the ground forces to mop up whatever defenders were left.

"Come, we must make our way to the command center across the way. On the other side of this bridge lies our first target, A Nautolan female if the briefing is correct. She will be our first kill."

T'zarna lead her troops with a coldness and cruelty which befitted her former rank as High Inquisitor, she cared not how many people she had to kill, only that the hive demanded they die. If it pleased the powers above her, whole worlds would burn...

OBJECTIVE 3 - HEAD OF THE SNAKE
SALIS D'AAR

"Over there" the Inquisitor said in her artificial helmeted voice. The transport banked around towards a clearing to land in. T'zarna Khab T'zarna Khab would see the Inquisitorial shuttle pass over head and recognise the callsign of her comrade if she cared to check. Rayner brought up the situation map on her HUD, Khab had already cleared landing zone alpha and was making her way towards the first target, a single Jedi should be no challenge for a woman who had previously called herself High Inquisitor so Meredith made her way towards their second target, a Cerean male, an ambush specialist apparently. She would spring whatever trap he had in mind, reversing his own skills against him would make his defeat even sweeter.

The shuttle lurched and landed, the hatch had already been open and the purge troopers ran forward into the clearing pushing away the light resistance. The troopers moved forwards with Meredith right behind.

"Do you know where he is?" asked her commissar as she strode forwards. "No, he hides himself well, he has practiced this. But his troops are nervous, unsure exactly when the order will be given to pull the trigger, them, I know exactly where they are." Maybe she would break the trap instead of springing it. She tapped on her comm and a symbol appeared on the Huds of the commissar and all the PTs indicating the most likely ambush positions. Two troopers immediately dropped a knee and in seconds slammed a tube into the ground. A plunk plunk plunk signalled the imminent doom for three of the enemy positions followed by the boom boom boom of the explosions that signed it.

"Barely seems fair." she said with an ironic laugh that sounded eerie through her helmet.

Their cover blown and half of their number dead the defenders opened up on the well drilled purge troopers. The enemy were not green recruits so the Imperials needed to take care but the momentum was on their side and the adept would be forced to reveal himself of leave his wards to be cut down in short order. She felt the change in the air as the Cerean stopped hiding and moved to confront her, her saber activated and she stepped forward into battle.

OBJECTIVE: PACIFY
SALIS D'AAR

The mobile command center continued to make its way towards the city as the front lines of troopers and walkers engaged with the forces of the Dominion. Enemy soldiers fell all around them. To be fair, many stormtroopers, and even some walkers, succumbed to the fire of the Dominion forces. These were skilled combatants, and their armor was nothing to scoff at. But they weren't the Empire and they lacked the might, the precision training, and the will to succeed at any cost.

"Forward lines have entered the city. Experiencing continued resistance, though intensity is declining."

Selrik turned to look at the holomap of the city, noting the locations of their forces as they progressed. He could see that they had some additional forces already deeper within the city, advanced units that had moved ahead or been air-dropped in. Possibly also Inquisitors that were hunting down the Force slaves that the Dominion utilized in their quest to exterminate the Force from the galaxy. Getting rid of their kind would certainly prove useful. Also, he knew that Director Kesyk was making a point of handling some things himself.

Things were going well on the ground, though.

"Continue as planned. Pacify all resistance. Door to door inquiries are to be made as we progress further into the city. Locked doors are to be broken down through whatever means necessary. Leave nowhere unsearched."

"Yes, sir."

No stone unturned. He would leave nothing unchecked. Selrik was thorough. If there was somewhere that the Dominion cretins could hide, he'd make sure that it was found and that they were dispatched immediately. He wanted none of them left behind. Any allowance for rebellion was intolerable to the Emperor and to Selrik. They would bring the Dominion down completely.

Meredith's transport landed near T'zarna and her troopers, a small smirk found its way onto the inquisitor's lips. She respected the lead inquisitor, the force was strong with her, and she was devoted to her hive. Moreso, both of them were genetic oddities, perhaps in another world they could even be friends at some point. The inquisitor had no time for such thoughts, she had force users to murder...

Every step brought her closer to her objective, closer to crossing sabers with quarry. There was a bridge between the highrise building T'zarna was on and the next building, unfortunately the enemy had already set up an ambush for them on the bridge, this amused the insectoid inquisitor. She held up a hand and focused her power in the force, not on their bodies, but on their minds. Under the weight of the woman's force power, the psyche of the enemy soldiers broke like dry twigs.

Some clutched their heads under the strain of trying to resist the foul influence, others descended into cackling madness and hallucinations. One particularly affected soldier believed himself to be in the presence of some great insectoid monster, and chose to cast himself off the bridge instead of fight. Mind Shard was a power that seemed horrifying to the purge troopers behind the Inquisitor. Even their hardened constitutions were challenged by watching healthy men descend into madness with just a wave of the hand. It challenged their sensibilities, and their devotion to the cause. T'zarna could sense this weakness, even before the first trooper spoke.

"Ma'am, what did you do to them?"

"A mere parlor trick compared to what I shall do to you should you continue to slow me down!"

A harsh buzzing-whine was the tone the PT squad heard from their inquisitor, who didn't even deign to look back at them before continuing across the walkway. She was truly a short-tempered one, that much was clear! Rather than risk themselves arguing with the volatile Inquisitor, they fell in line and marched toward the other end of the bridge.

As they walked to the next building, the structure began to rumble, the ferrocrete of the foundation being shaken by an unseen hand. T'zarna could feel it, the strange energies wrapping around the floor, trying to pull it apart. The Force Slave had found them!

"Retreat! The ambush was a distraction! The enemy have-" Her words were cut off as the floor beneath her feet broke open and sent her tumbling into a void of air and rock.

She crashed down onto the ground below, black compound eyes scanning around to find the source of the force wave that crushed the floor, only to see a gleaming lightsaber blade plunging down through the air towards her.
