SPECIAL FEATURES
- Underslung Grenade Launcher gives Infantryman in the field the ability to use their rifles as a platform for lobbing grenades at longer ranges than normally could be thrown. This allows for the infantry squad in the field to engage various targets with grenades at much further ranges, allowing for suppression, destruction and implementation of low AoA indirect fires onto targets they are directly engaging.
- High Velocity Fin Stabilized Grenades allow for the rifle of any soldier to become an emplaced mortar, simply allowing for the mortarman or infantryman to put his/her buttstock into the ground to emplace the weapon and load a HV shell into their launcher. This will give their indirect fires a much higher AoA, and much further range than the standard GL rounds. Thus it gives the infantry on the ground the adaptability to emplace wherever needed, and change positions on the fly without requiring extra equipment aside from what is attached to their rifles.
- Two piece sight aperture has two different modes. One is for the more direct fire GL, consisting of a leaf style sight that pops up from the side or if integrated with the Dart Adaptable Rifle can be made to integrate directly within the weapon's own sights (especially if using an electronic sight). This will sight the weapon in from 50-100 meters all the way out to its maximum effective range of 450 meters in a grenade launcher configuration. However once emplaced, a different sight can be accessed which will give the weapon's operator instead the projected range (without environmental factors incorporated) based on the weapon's angle facing upward. The new point of aim is now instead the barrel of the rifle, with the ranging on the side of the weapon telling the operator how far the round should travel based on the initial angle of firing. These sights can be incorporated into electronic systems both on weapon optics or even power armor to allow for operators to increase accuracy and efficiency in a wide range of operating environments.
- Grenades are a simple High Explosive Dual Purpose warhead, containing a small shaped charge in the rear to attack enemy light armor, while also having a fragmentation casing to engage targets in the open. Grenades are most effective against enemy infantry however, and contact fuse causes warheads to detonate on impact.
- Mortar Rounds are High Explosive Variable Fuse, allowing for either contact detonation or air burst to allow for the mortar round to detonate above enemy positions. Air Burst munitions can either be manually set with predicted distances, or should the operator have access, electronically set to the predicted range to target. However should the air burst in the munition fail, it will always detonate on contact, meaning that should an air burst round not detonate mid flight it will detonate on impact.
- Both GL and Mortar rounds are set up so that only one may be fired at any given time, however an operator may pre-load each of the rounds and keep them loaded without firing them thanks to the firing mechanism. This mechanism consists of a simple electronic trigger to detonate an electronic primer on the round, however should the electronic firing mechanism fail, operator can utilize a more standard analog firing system. This utilizes a spring loaded firing pin that will instead strike the primer with enough force to detonate, this however requires a much stronger trigger pull to achieve.
- Warheads have internal safeties in their construction that have a short analog countdown timer from being fired before the warhead is armed. This forces the warhead to travel 50 meters before the actual explosives and fuses are armed to ensure operator safety.
STRENGTHS
- Adaptable and Reliable: This weapon system is able to be attached onto any standard rifle with the ability to receive weapon attachments, and can utilize its mortar function as long as the rifle is compatible with the more reinforced attachments. This means that while intended for the Dart Adaptable Rifle Series, this weapon can be used on a wide variety of platforms meaning that it can be used and accessed by a wide variety of people in the infantry. On top of this with its superb construction, extreme focus on durability and redundant mechanics, means this weapon will work anytime, anywhere. Guaranteed.
- Mortar goes "YEET": I don't have to explain that the purpose of a light mortar is to bring an explosive to some yahoo over a kilometer away from the operator's position do I? Well in case I do, just imagine you're in a.... well with this whatever, and some good for nothing is taking pot shots at you from 800 meters with that sniper rifle, heavy blaster rifle, whatever. Your response? Sight him in at the range, sit back in your whatever happens to be your cover, and then start throwing HE shells back at them. They'll either take a hint and leave you alone, or you'll need a doggy bag to clean up what's left of them.
WEAKNESSES
- Minimum Safe Distance: This weapon incorporates a minimum safe distance for its rounds. Meaning that if someone is inside of 50 meters, it's useless unless you think beaning people with inert rounds is funny. So requires some range, and you can only shoot one at a time. Better make each shot count.
- Mortar requires weapon to be grounded: The recoil of the weapon system with the high velocity rounds have too much recoil to be fired from standing or using the person as a backstop. This requires this weapon to be planted on the ground with the butt stock directly in the ground to allow for the energy of the recoil to be absorbed by the ground. Also it's a mortar, you can't really direct fire it so close range is a huge nono.
DESCRIPTION
The Trebuchet began as one of many off shoot programs designed for the Dart Adaptable Rifle System. This attachment like many others was designed to offer options to the ground pounding infantryman to engage various types of targets. This includes infantry in the open, light skinned vehicles, and armored infantry or buildings. Many of these issues are simply solved with an explosive solution, which the Trebuchet provides in the spades with its 55mm Warhead. It's other party trick, is the ability to shoot relatively low velocity rounds with the shoulder using the weapon alongside a standard rifle, or its ability to load high velocity rounds that it can shoot by using the rifle as a mortar. This with an easy to use aiming system makes the attachment a no brainer for people looking to make their loadouts a little more versatile. And with the added option of longer range "mortar" rounds, this makes the weapon that much more able to deal with a variety of threats. With a weapon like a Trebuchet at your side, you shouldn't worry the moment you get yourself into a good firing position. Because you can just sit back, take "aim" and start lobbing shells at the bad guys without a care in the world.
