OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Trivohld Technologies
  • Affiliation: Open-Market
  • Model: Tridurium
  • Modularity: Yes; the exact compound varies based on its purpose - it can be made lighter at the expense of resistance, heavier to strengthen it, and mixed with various other materials for use in more advanced products.
  • Production: Mass-Produced
  • Material: Carbon & various synthetic elements.
PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Compound
  • Weight: Light
  • Colour: Naturally dark grey or black; easily coloured.
  • Resistances:
    • Plasmatic and Energy Weapons: Average
    • Kinetic Weapons: Average
    • Environmental: High
    • Ion/EMP: High
    • Lightsabers: Very Low
    • Disruptors: Very Low
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The standard compound is fairly basic, though variants and compounds exist to serve a vast number of more specialised functions - these are generally not quite as good as more specialised materials, however - tridurium's main advantage is its low price and ubiquitousness.
STRENGTHS
  • Basic Materials: Made from materials readily available practically anywhere in the galaxy, Tridurium can be mass-produced without having to worry about pesky supply chains and expensive mining expeditions.
  • Versatile: Incredibly versatile, even without taking into account the various subtypes that can be synthesised, tridurium can be used for everything from chairs to floors, droids to spaceship hulls. When combined with other materials, its potential is even greater.
  • Environmental: Unusually resistant to heat, cold, radiation, EMPs, and ionic interference, Tridurium can be used practically everywhere, from the depths of the sea to the vacuum of space.
  • Light: Despite its high tensile strength, the base compound is comparatively light, with (weaker) variants available that are lighter still!
WEAKNESSES
  • High Tech: While the materials from which it is made are simple enough, the synthesising of Tridurium requires advanced industrial facilities and significant technical expertise, generally making it more somewhat expensive than durasteel on most worlds, yet somewhat cheaper on high-tech ones.
  • Advanced Weapons: Tridurium offers little to no protection against more advanced weapons, such as lightsabers and disruptors.
DESCRIPTION
During the latter parts of the Four Hundred Year Darkness, the planet of Erakhis found itself in a rather uncomfortable situation - the system's reserves of the base materials needed for durasteel had largely run dry, with their aggressive quarantine stance preventing anything but thoroughly-vetted automated vessels from attempting trading or mining missions outside the planetary government's sphere of influence.

In response to this, the system's various corporations and state-sponsored labs set out to find a new source or create a viable alternative, many of them experimenting with carbon-based compounds, given the plentiful nature of the element.

In the end, it was TriTech and its tridurium that would end up providing the best solution to the deficit, though this discovery came near the end of their centuries-long isolation, making it less profitable than it might have been. Even so, the material has become a staple of Erakhian engineering, TriTech products in particular. With their recent, more galactic, ambitions, the company has become marketing the material far outside Erakhis' borders, with varying success.
