Weiss
Republic Colonel
The Storm Corp Drill and Command
Your Position
Through your training in the Imperial Storm Corps you will be taught various ways to respond to commands, different formations and combat tactics. This document should help you when referencing certain aspects of your training, and is the largest database our unit has to offer.
When working in a Platoon or squad, you must refer to the Platoon or squad leader in the correct way. All CO's can be refered to by rank, or Sir if you wish. All NCOs should be referred to by rank, not Sir.
When recieving a command, you should respond in a confirmatory manner. For instance confirm by saying Roger or if the command is impossible, Negative. Also, remember to salute at appropriate times. Never forget, when working with a Squad you should always know your importance, the NCO is responsible for the Squad, but you are a dispensable part.
Drill Commands/Squad Orders
During your time in the Imperial Storm corps, you will be submitted through vigorous training, and by the end, you should shout out these commands in your sleep. However, they are always here for reference if you need them. You should respond to every command with speed and precision.
[Listen In!] The squad leader will issue this command to brief his squad on a Drill or Mission. When ordered, the Squad lines up IN FRONT of the squad leader and waits for orders or inspection.
[Fall In] On this command, the Squad should line alongside the designated person. For instance, if the command "Fall In on Lieutenant Weiss" was given, the squad would line alongside Weiss, making sure he is on the far left of the line.
[Turn Commands] There are various turn commands. Turn Left, Turn Right, and About Turn each command the Squad to turn immediately, regardless of formation. The Turn on Pointman Commands ensure the squad turns on the exact point the man at the front of the formation turns, maintaining the formation.
[Forward March] This is mostly used on parade when the platoon or squad leader is not part of the formation. The Squad will begin to March forward, keeping good spacing in relation to the man in front, usually one meter apart.
[Halt] This command is obvious. The entire Platoon/Squad is to stop immediately. You may be issued a prepare the command in which case you should be ready to soon halt. It depends on the leaders judgment.
[On Me] You are to follow the squad leader in the formation of his choice and not break ranks. You maintain the speed, movement and direction of the squad leader. Remember, it's up to you to keep up.
[Fall Back] The Empire rarely issues this order, but if they do, it's for a good reason. You may be encountering overwhelming odds, or getting a VIP to cover, but on this command, you move as fast as possible to the designated retreat zone.
[On “X”] Your squad leader may be dying, incapacitated or just ordering you to follow another squad member. On this command, you are to follow the ordered squad mate as you would the squad leader, in the proper formation.
[Cover] It goes without saying this is a defensive order. When in combat, the CO will most probably order the squad to cover. Watch the squad leader, move to the same cover as he does or one close by. Find your own cover, but maintain a close distance to the leader.
Formations
Formations are a vital part of the unit, early in your training you will begin to learn and use various formations. So knowing all about them is a must. Formations are used to protect, maneuver and impress, and are a large part of your military training. Several formations are used by Imperial Army and are hugely beneficial.
When your squad/platoon leader issues a Formation command, you do so as quickly as possible and as precise as possible, it may save your life. You abandon all other priorities, such as fire response and medical aid and stick together as a team.
[Column] This formation is used in non combat situations and it is the default formation for "On me" commands. Due to it's shape, Column is very beneficial when patrolling in urban environments, and useful when on parade. The column usually has the highest ranks at the front going down to the Recruits. Each squad member follows the man in front, keeping a distance of 3-4m. It is one of the easier formations
[Line] Line is only really used on parade, it is too space consuming for Patrol and it is a useless combat formation, as it exposed every squad member to fire. Nevertheless, it can be difficult to maneuver and so is one of the most used parade formations. You will be trained in this early on.
[Wedge] Another of the basic formations, and most often used when the squad is entering a combat situation without means of cover and in an open environment. Wedge is an arrow-head shape formation, and it's shape allows all Squad members to cover their own portion of potential threat. You will also be trained in Wedge earlier on, and expect to use it frequently in open battle situations.
[Box] A more advanced formation. Box is often used when the Squad needs to take the defensive and often on VIP escorts. Box has two variations. Open Box (OP) is used when the squad is still defending a larger amount of space, and wishes to be less vulnerable to Artillery and Grenade fire. There is also more room for the VIP. Disadvantages include open spaces for Sniper Fire and longer distances to aid the team. Closed Box (CB) is used when the squad is a confined space, or when the defense needs to tighten up. Usually, the Squad will assume this formation when the VIP is at risk, and the Squad is moving to a Safe Zone or Landing Zone, or the Squad is in a tighter area. Disadvantages inculde a susceptability to Artillery and Grenade attacks.
[Circle] Really a variation of the Box formation, and usually used for the same purposes. This formation can be assumed when defending a VIP, probably when men have been lost and a Box formation is harder to maintain. This formation may also be assumed when a Squad member is injured and a medical officer needs to be covered whilst assisting the injured man. Again, this formation is susceptible to Grenade and Artillery and is also difficult to manoeuvre, so the Squad will most likely be stationary.
[Double Column/Double Line] These formations have similar uses to their singular counterparts. Both are used in more open environments or when the squad is at a larger size.
[Stagger] Used when the squad needs to traverse but in an area with a possibility of threat. The Squad can manoeuvre well but has a better Line of Sight (LoS) than a Column formation, the formation looks similar to a "Zig-Zag" shape.
Drills
Drills are your common practice for Formations and Commands, you may be called to, or volunteer for training. Drills will be commanded by a qualified Drill Sergeant, or CO depending on the situation.
Patrols
Patrols are a common occurrence in the unit. The main objective of an Imperial patrol is to Catalogue and Secure. Usually patrols will be conducted in close proximity Imperial controlled ground but may occur on hostile territories, which is the Storm Corps paramount concern, but patrols also occur regularly in larger populated areas. Whilst on patrol, you are a domineering Imperial presence and have a large impression, don't misuse it. You are also looking for trouble, and to ID check certain civilians, do so discreetly and without causing much fuss. That's the perfect patrol.
Parades
Parades are more of a rare occurrence. Within the Unit, only the very best at formation command will be selected for parades. Parades are more of an official drill, with Drill Sergeant merely running you through training procedure. However, you are expected to perform perfectly, whilst Imperial or other officials such as our allies watch the proceedings. You are showing off our presence. You show off the best.
The Mission
Soon within your military career, Drills, Patrols and Parades will be the least of your worries. As a member of the Imperial Storm Corps you may actively be deployed into a combat situation to eliminate a threat. As a member of a Squad on a mission, it is imperative that you remember your training, and the basics of mission deployment noted here.
There are many types of situation which could fall upon your briefing on a mission. You may be tasked with eliminating a Republic Force, or some local rebels. You may have to defuse a bomb guarded by armed terrorists. You may have to quickly get a VIP out of a combat zone. The basic knowledge to your survival, and your Squad mates, is right here.
Situation: Bomb Disposal
Possibly one of the most dangerous situations on a mission. Picture this scenario. A large manor in Imperial controlled territory has been discovered to be the hideout of several Republic Operatives, after surveying the situation, your Squad is deployed to the combat zone to eliminate the threat, disarm the bomb, and rescue the hostages. Listening to your CO or NCO is imperative. Your Squad needs to be fast, and you must draw up on every ounce of your training. On this mission, there will be a vital member of your Squad, the bomb defusal expert. It is imperative he remains safe, and has provided cover whilst he works.
Of the three threats above, the most important to neutralize is the Republic Operatives. They will hinder all other aspects of your operation, and are a danger to your Squad and Hostages. Likely, your squad leader will order the Squad, or a portion of the Squad to deal with them, whilst the Hostages are evacuated. The Manor is least important, and so the bomb is defused last. However, an efficient Squad can operate at such speed all aspects appear to be simultaneous.
Situation: VIP Evacuation
Rule one of any VIP escort. The VIP comes first. You follow any command your squad leader issues, but always remember, no heroics. If a Squad mate falls protecting the VIP, you leave him, and ensure your formation acts accordingly. Any threat will pinpoint the most Vulnerable moment to attack, you make sure they don't exploit it. Watch your Field of Responsibility well, and keep up your guard up. Often, your squad leader will designate a Fall Back spot if your Squad should come under fire. Immediately on contact, you maintain formation around the VIP as he runs to the Fall Back spot. Once there, the VIP will be lead to cover or extraction whilst your Squad provides the necessary defenses.
Situation: Scouting Mission
When scouting, you will most likely be in a smaller group broken off from the main Squad. You will be sent ahead, and possibly behind enemy lines, so it is imperative your group is ready for battle. Mostly used will be either the Stagger or Column formations. Whilst scouting, you report any findings to the squad leader via comm. Communication is crucial!
Situation: Sweeping
This is a common practice within the unit. You may be called upon to completely clear and search a building, this is often done to eliminate threats, or search for illegal merchandise. You should do this with as little disruption as possible, and remember to search any container you come across.
Situation: Elimination/Assassination
Elimination is a common Black Ops mission. Your Squad may be called upon to eliminate a small republic base, or a single strategically important person. Whatever the threat, it is dangerous. You follow every squad leader command to the book and only engage when ordered. Occasionally a target may need a small Hunter Force rather than a trained assassin – this is whene the Storm Corps step in. As always, follow every order, and eliminate the target as discreetly as possible.
Situation: Capture
Your Squad may be called upon to capture a particular individual. His delivery to a cell is of Utmost importance. When engaging, be sure to only incapacitate, not kill. Once he is subdued a full escort will deliver the subject to the cells to be interrogated.
**Remember, all missions above are not definitive, merely examples. Your Squad may be called upon a mission which mixes objectives, or special circumstances not described above. But remember, your training has you always prepared.
If you've read this through, you should have all the knowledge necessary to complete any Drill, Patrol, Parade or Mission this Army throws at you. Remember, you are the best, and you are trained to be the best.
