Originally preferred by assassins and bounty hunters, Disruptors were a devastating energy weapon capable of disintegrating organic and inorganic matter alike. They operated on a similar level to conventional blaster and laser weaponry, however, their use of tibanna gas was significantly higher - making them impractical for large scale use. This was made especially true when utilized aboard starships, as those cannons would tear through the stored resources which made prolonged engagements an impossibility. Yet, when one’s tactical doctrine spoke highly of lightning warfare, having a heavy hitter in your corner was always welcome.
Thus, the Istanu came to be. It was developed in the aftermath of the Battle of Eshan as an inevitable replacement for their starfighter’s and walker’s primary weaponry; to better cement the Sun Guard’s fearsome legacy among the stars. With this weapon fitted onto their aerial support craft, the Scions of Thyrsus would leave nothing but molecular ash in their wake as they advanced across the battlefield. The same could be said of their forces committed to the void, as disruptors would chew through common shielding systems with relative ease; before atomizing their target in a fiery shower of depressurized atmosphere.
In spite of the devastating arsenal now at their disposal, the Istanu came with its own inevitable drawbacks. While it’s consumption of tibanna was high, the weapon devoured an equal amount of power from a dedicated reactor; so much so that firing multiple weapons at once, or alpha strikes was an impossibility. The starfighter or vehicle would be forced into cycling their weapons in order to keep themselves in the fight. In addition, the Istanu was a slow-firing weapon. It took time to accrue the necessary power needed to unleash the celluar and inorganic degeneration of the disruptor, and thus could never truly be rapid-fired without vastly decreasing its destructive capabilities.
With the Istanu added to their armoury, the Sun Guard would be the undisputed masters of the skies and the ground beneath.
