TV Tropes

What is this about? This wiki is a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction.

Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés. The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite." In other words, dull and uninteresting. We are not looking for dull and uninteresting entries. We are here to recognize tropes and play with them, not to make fun of them.

The wiki is called "TV Tropes" because TV is where we started. Over the course of a few years, our scope has crept out to include other media. Tropes transcend television. They reflect life. Since a lot of art, especially the popular arts, do their best to reflect life, tropes are likely to show up everywhere.
It's a thing.

Get lost in Tv Trope land and regaled us with tropes of your character.

I had these a while back... Need to refresh some!

So WIP!

To be fair though I click on a link innocently displayed in a thread like this, just to look at it.

Then three hours later I’m looking at the TV tropes for legolas by laura and wondering how I got there, why it’s 11pm, and why there’s 7 new notifications in my Skype.

<_< And that was last Sunday.

LOL, I remember one time [member="Fabula Cavataio"] got lost on TV tropes for days....
The way you phrase that implies that I'm not always lost on TV Tropes.

All of my recent character bios have had the strengths/weaknesses done in tropes, and Siobhan and I once rained tropes on each other during a thread. You guys are behind the times. :p

[*]Would Hurt a Child
[*]Evil Overlord
[*]Despotism Justifies the Means
[*]Utopia Justifies the Means (This and the previous one kinda mix together)
[*]Master Race (Believes Humans and Near-Humans are, and will always be, absolutely superior to Aliens. However; he views Epicanthix above the Humans and other Near-Humans)
[*]Aristocrats are Evil
[*]Black Cloak
[*]Immortality Seeker
[*]Tyrant Takes the Helm (When Kaine overthrew the previous regime on Panatha, this is what happened)
[*]Evil Sounds Deep
[*]Abusive Parents ([member="Evelynn"] ;3)

This is what I could gather that fits Kaine, although there's most likely more out there I didn't snatch :p

Disclaimer: The word "Bastard" is in a lot of these, because, well, that's a thing on TVtropes.

  • General Ripper--EXpendable Grunts, SEIZE THEM!!!
  • Anti-Mutiny--Was actually loyal to Tyrin and not so much to Kaine.
  • Magnificent Bastard--He talked a terrorist revolution out of revolting form the empire. He funds his auctions proceeds with stolen pension money. He used telekinesis, a lightsaber and methodical planning to make the invasion of Yaga Prime look like an inside job. He is the worst duelist ever, but he never needs a blade to end his enemies.
  • Evil Genius--Technically his whole species is the genius part, and the evil's not uncommon to his species either.
  • Aliens are Bastards--Columi seem to be mean in general. Olom's just Sithier.
  • The Napoleon--Surly Midget of the Sith

*cracks knuckles* Alright chumps. Let's do this.

General
Action Girl - Duh?
The Ageless - Though this isn't going to be a thing during Fabula's life, Cavataios are weird when it comes to age. Namely, they don't. But then, Fabula is like six years old, so this hardly matters.
- Immortality Begins At Twenty - By association.
Beauty, Brains, and Brawn - Pick any three women on the site. She's gonna be the "brawn."
Blood Knight
Boobs of Steel
Broken Bird
Buxom is Better
Curtains Match the Window - Black on black on black.
- Black Eyes of Crazy
- Red Eyes, Take Warning - During Rage.
Damsel Errant
Doesn't Like Guns
Emotionless Girl - She tends to give this vibe due to the fact that she keeps her emotional turmoil bottled up tight.
Extraordinarily Empowered Girl - Though she has a little more "power" than most examples.
Extreme Doormat
Even the Girls Want Her - According to every female she's ever RP'd with, at least.
Fearless Fool
Gag Boobs
Gentle Giant - Strength of one, anyway. She's hardly "giant."
Girls Love Stuffed Animals - You should see the cabin on her ship.
Good Is Not Soft
Hello, Nurse!
Lady of Adventure
Lady of War
Little Miss Badass
Most Common Superpower
Ms. Fanservice
Muscles are Meaningless
Pint-Sized Powerhouse
Shrinking Violet - No one will blame you if you hear her lines in Hinata Hyuuga's voice.
Silk Hiding Steel
Submissive Badass
Super-Powered Evil Side - If she can't manage to control herself. If she does, it results in...
Tranquil Fury
The Woobie
- Iron Woobie
Tykebomb - Defused.
Yamato Nadeshiko - This is the most imporant trope for her. I base almost every reaction on this.

Combat
Barrier-Bursting Blow
Cute Bruiser
The Big Guy - Even though she's a tiny 5'4" waif.
Good Old Fisticuffs - Fabula has no unarmed training, despite it being her favored combat style.
Good Thing You Can Heal - I make a point of this. Fabula's toughness serves no purpose if she doesn't get horribly trashed in every single battle.
Guys Smash, Girls Shoot - Entirely inverted. Fabula can't shoot worth a damn. Instead, she smashes...leviathans. With her bare hands.
Healing Factor
Implacable Woman
Lightning Bruiser
Punched Across the Room
Super Speed - And, consequently...
- Super Reflexes
Super Strength
Super Toughness
Unskilled, But Strong
Waif Fu

Lightsabers - Subdivided due to being an addition to the above.
Attack! Attack! Attack!
- Spam Attack
Dual Wielding
Everything's Better with Spinning
Flash Step
- Dash Attack
Laser Blade
She-Fu
Tornado Move - High-level Ataru is basically this, with lightsabers.
Videogame Dashing - Fabula can pull off some pretty unlikely stuff.
