Location: Ossus, Knossa Spaceport Cantina

There was no good reason that Jemmila Krygen should have been on Ossus, but the young Hapan woman had come to the planet anyway. Her mission: to see if she could check up on her adopted Cathar sister Mallisi, who had just joined the Jedi Order. Sure it was a bit creepy that Jemmila had arrived on Ossus without Mallisi's knowledge or permission, but she didn't think that after their family ties had been unceremoniously severed, that she'd be welcomed with open arms.

The two adopted sisters had grown up very close. The finishing-each-other's-sentences and secret languages kind of close. However, as they reached adulthood, Mallisi grew more independent and Jemmila grew more clingy, and ultimately the relationship ended up being more toxic than anything. Still, they were blood, and Jemmila missed her sister deeply. She hoped that Mallisi missed her too, but at this point she was hardly sure of anything these days.

Paralyzed over the decision of whether or not to make her presence known at the Jedi Academy, Jemmila simply sat at the cantina, chain smoking and drinking, hoping that her choice would soon become clear.

Evard had literally no clue why he was in the general vicinity of Ossus at all. He'd had a vague idea that maybe he could sneak into the temple to see Mallisi, but he'd been literally thrown out on his ass by the Jedi guardians. It simply hadn't occurred to him to use the phrik-plated prosthetic arm and leg he had as weapons. Nope. He'd just let himself be beaten down. So, he now had black eye and a cold beer, and nothing to do except maybe catch Mallisi if or when she actually left the temple herself.

Through a cloud of thick cigarette smoke, Jemmlia saw an interesting fellow sitting near her at the bar. He seemed to be a few inches shorter than she and curiously had a nice black shiner. Not only did Jem sense that there was probably a good story there, but she also sensed something else, which felt like a darker stirring in her nerve endings. The Force senstiive woman didn't have enough experience to know exactly what she was feeling, only that she felt something. And that something intrigued her more than the black eye.

Needing some distraction the woman ordered another whiskey from the bartender. Then she leaned over towards [member="Evard L'Rik"] and pushed the glass across the bar in his direction. With the hand that held her cigarette, Jem gestured to his eye.

"That looks bad, but I bet the other guy looks worse, right?" she asked with a smirk. Then she nodded towards the drink. "Here, it looks like you could use this." Blowing a generous amount of smoke out of the side of her lips, Jem quickly added, "So what's the story with your eye, blondie?"

Evard took the whiskey, and sighed happily as the cold drink slid through him. Putting the glass down, he leaned against the bar with his phrik right arm, which was covered by his sleeve, and he looked over at the woman who'd given him the drink.

"The other guy is seven feet tall, scaly, and wearing Jedi robes. I'm automatically better looking than him. He bashed me 'cos I was tryin' to get into the temple."

Of course, he wasn't going to tell her that he was trying to get in to see Mallisi... That obviously wasn't her business. At all.

At the mention of the temple, Jem almost imperceptibly raised an eyebrow. It was highly unlikely he knew Mallisi, then again her sister had a thing for long-haired males, so she felt a glimmer of hope.

The Hapan woman smirked, "Scales aren't so bad, depending on the species. They leave a bit of a rug burn on your skin though," she joked. Jem gave the injured man a once-over with her large brown eyes. He was kind of handsome and she especially liked his pretty blonde hair and the way his golden eyes shined mischeviously. "Fur isn't so bad either," she added with a grin, fishing ever so subtly.

Jem took another long drag off her cigarette and shook her disheveled blonde hair out of her face. "So what were you doing at the temple that got the Jedi so hot-and-bothered?" she asked.

Evard shrugged, and took another sip of the whiskey. It was almost as good as the stuff he had on the ship. The comment about fur had piqued his interest for a moment, but he'd managed not to show it. It could've been coincidence, or it might not have been. He couldn't tell, and so he didn't say anything on the subject.

"I was literally just walking in and looking around. Apparently, we're back to the old credo of 'if you're Dark, you're a Sith.' Won't find anybody darker than me on Ossus, I bet."

"The darkest on Ossus, eh?" Jem asked, tapping some ashes onto the Cantina floor, oblivious to the ubiquitous ashtrays scattered around the place. If Jem could find the words to describe her own Force sensitivity at that very moment, it would have been neutral, but she had to admit she was much more haunted by the temptations of Dark side than the calling of the Light.

She gave the young man another smirk, her cigarette dangling from her lips. "Although I have to admit that you're just oozing innocence, forgive me if I seem skeptical. I highly doubt a Darksider was merely walking around the Jedi temple, so I assume you had a pretty specific reason to be there." Then she shrugged and smoothed the jacket of her rumpled black suit, which hung off her shape as if it was meant for a more masculine frame. Her eyes downcast, Jem added, "I was also thinking about making a trip to the temple, but I have a feeling that I might meet the same fate as you."

"Oh, by the way, I'm Jemmila Kyrgen." she shifted her cigarette to her other hand and stuck out a hand for the blonde man to shake.

Evard blanched, and he set his drink down. His head tilted to the right, and his hair fell in front of his bruised eye.

"Kyrgen? So... you're..."

He held out his hand to shake Jemmila's, and regained some of his composure.

"I'm Evard."

Noticing how the man suddenly turned white at the mention of her surname, an flicker of malice crossed Jem's eyes. She made no effort to neutralize her expression as she gave him a firm handshake. "Nice to meet you Evard." As she took his hand in hers, the feel of it was different and the young Hapan made a mental note to follow up on that.

Regarding him as if he were a fish squirming on her hook, Jem smiled and tugged at the line. "So you know my younger sister Mallisi, eh? Well, that's no surprise. You're just her type. Rough around the edges," She glanced quickly down at his hand and then back into his yellow eyes. "Long blonde hair. Pretty eyes."

"I'm suspecting you didn't get that far with her, Evard. She's a real tease you know." Jem bit her lip and promptly lit a new cigarette with the stub of the previous before it burned out on her. Then, looking squarely at Evard, she slowly and deliberately snuffed it out.

Evard shrugged, and some of the color came back to his face. Mentally recounting the first time he'd talked to Mallisi, he nodded.

"I mean, you could say we didn't get anywhere, but we were sort of sitting on a ledge outside her window for a long time. She didn't tease me at all. It was a serious conversation."

He sighed, and then grinned crookedly.

"The look on her face when I stepped off my ship, onto the ledge was priceless."

Jem clearly didn't believe that the two had simply talked. For one, she knew her sister's weaknesses and secondly, going back to reason one, the man's physical appearance was simply too appealing for plausibility of it.

"I suppose I have no evidence to the contrary," she said, her eyes watching the dancing smoke before her. "But let's just say if you ever lay your hand on her." she provocatively gestured to his hand with a tight-lipped glare "You will have an angry sister on your back, Mr. L'Rik."

Chewing on her fingernails, she leaned in forward a bit closer to Evard with a puzzled expression. "How did my sister seem? Does she seem happy?"

Evard raised an eyebrow. He found the threat of an angry sister almost laughable.

"There's a Sith Lord in my brain, trying to kill me from the inside out. I'm terribly sorry, but you don't scare me. My hand is my hand, unless you're one of those people."

Sighing, he rested his face on the cool metal of his palm. Mallisi did seem content, if not happy. But he didn't have much of a context to judge by, really.

"I think she's happy. Bored enough to talk at length with a random guy sitting outside her window, but she seems comfortable, at least."

Jem simply nodded, her eyes downcast, completely ignoring Evard's comment about how he wasn't scared of her. "Well, I'm glad. Mallisi deserves happiness. Although I'm not certain she's going to find it with the Jedi." she murmured. The woman stared off into space for a good minute and then turned back to the golden-haired Darksider, carelessly letting the end of her cigarette singe her split ends as she ran her fingers through her dirty blonde hair. "The Academy is way too ascetic for her. She was probably glad to see the sight of someone who wasn't a celibate old geezer."

The young Hapan woman took the last sip of her whiskey and promptly ordered another, squinting at him through the miasma of smoke. "How does one manage to get a Sith lord in his brain, anyway? If he's in your brain does that mean he can watch you take a shower?"

Evard rolled his eyes, smirking.

"Wow, thanks. You get a bit vicious, don't you?"

At the question about the Sith Lord in his brain, he snorted, coughing whiskey back up into his cup. When he finished laughing, though, he got the feeling that he was being asked to explain himself a bit too much, lately. But if Jemmila and Mallisi were sisters, she'd probably hear the story from Mal instead of him, and he didn't want that.

"Well, let's just say Mallisi's response was 'curiosity can kill the cat, but ignorance framed it in this case'. Weirdest thing I ever heard, but it sums up my problem pretty well. Just gotta keep that fething Sith asleep. He wakes up, I die. Probably instantly."

At Evard's first comment, Jem gave out a low, throaty laugh. "Well, you're right about the fact that I do get a bit vicious, but I didn't mean any offense, Evard." Men and their fragile egos, she thought with a smirk. Even cybermen had them. "As a matter of fact, I think that she's just your type. And given the fact that we're sisters, we think alike," the Hapan said with an almost Cathar-like purr. With that she moved her barstool a bit closer to his and lay her hand gently on his arm, her fingers tracing the fabric of his jacket.

Jem blew a few smoke rings out of the side of her mouth and then raised an eyebrow at his last statement. "What exactly are the kinds of things that wake this Sith lord up? I want to make sure that I don't do anything that could prove lethal to you."

Evard smiled crookedly, and gently lifted Jemmila's hand off his arm.

"You know, I might have indulged you if it wasn't your sister I liked. Hits me little too close to home, I'm afraid."

And it did. His fiancee had run off with his brother, and then an Asherian prince when his brother had disappeared. He enjoyed the attention, but he wasn't going to start something bad between two siblings, when he couldn't find his.

"But I seriously doubt you or Mallisi could trigger anything in my mind that would counteract the sheer amount of power I'm using to keep myself intact."

The man was wise, she thought with a smirk. Jemmila wasn't in a fit state to be with anyone as she was currently quite the basket case. He could probably smell the crazy. The young Hapan woman simply shrugged and blew more smoke rings, this time right in his face. However the much the slight stung, the little flirtation got her want exactly she wanted which was the news that he was indeed interested in her sister.

"Didn't I tell you what would happen if you got involved with Mallisi?" she said with a grin. "I will make your life so miserable, you'll wish your Sith lord would come a'knocking."

Evard laughed, shaking his head, and grinning right back.

"Hell itself could not make me inflict Lord Vanir on myself again. Go ahead and try."

Now, he decided, he'd been waiting long enough. He picked up his jacket, looking for a small black bottle and a pair of glasses he'd put in there this morning. He found them, and grinned.

"I'll be right back. Just a little change, and I think we'll go a-knocking."

Jemmila didn't really know why she was entertaining Blondie at this point, since she wasn't quite sure whether she wanted to hug the man or kill him. But then again Jem had no idea why she did much of anything these days. As she and Evard took a speeder to the Jedi Academy, she quietly stared straight ahead and palmed the Holocard in her trenchcoat pocket. The name on the card read: Doctor Robert Zendu. She had blown off her appointment with the therapist to come do this instead, and knowing that she would soon be getting one of those annoying Holocall reminders from Zendu, left her Datapad switched off.

As they reached the Jedi temple, she stifled a laugh at Evard's disguise. The young man had dyed his hair and was wearing dark glasses. Quite frankly he looked like some kind of bizarre performance artist. Immediately lighting up a cigarette, she stopped at the temple entrance and looked over at Evard, blowing smoke out of the side of her mouth. He had mentioned getting thrown out before, and as she had a Dark side Force presence, she wasn't sure if they'd be rolling out the red carpet for her either.

"So what now, Blondie? We don't just waltz right in there do we?"

Evard raised his still-blonde eyebrows so far that the passed the edge of his circular sunglasses.

"Why not simply waltz in? My power doesn't resonate very much if I concentrate on hiding it, and you seem to be pretty good at hiding your own. I probably got found out because I wasn't trying to hide. Oh, I forgot!"

He rubbed some cover-up over the bruise around his eye, and grinned. He dropped his voice to a gravelly rumble, and tried talking like that.

"Now, there's also nothing to suggest that I'm the blonde guy from earlier. I should be paid for this sort of acting."
