ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Excellent AA Suite: The LIberator is designed to provide area air defense coverage for a task force. The LTL Turrets and Missile Launchers are tied in to a state-of-the-art fire control system, making this Cruiser lethal against both strikecraft and warheads.
WEAKNESSES
  • Escort Ship: Neither particularly swift or maneuverable for its size, the Liberator II is designed to fly in formation with other, larger ships.
  • Prominent Hanger: The central hanger, though well shielded, is a potential vulnerability especially if targeted by enemy strikecraft. Concentrated fire that penetrates the shields would disable the flight deck (preventing launch and recovery) and potentially cripple the ship entirely.
DESCRIPTION
A follow on program of the same project that saw the development of the Cutlass-class Assault Frigate, the Type 055 in inspired by the Liberator Cruiser made by SoroSuub. Besides the appearance and name, the ship shares almost nothing in common with its predecessor. Where the original Liberator was part carrier, part troopship, designed for anti-Piracy work, the modern Liberator II is designed to act as a large and powerful escort ship in an Alliance Task Force, providing defensive support and firepower to the capital ships of the formation.
The Liberator is a balanced Cruiser, with good firepower, a sizable Hanger, and robust defenses. Primary armament consists of 13 rapid fire Heavy Turbolasers, and a set of four teraton-caliber long-range cannons mounted in the prow as a first strike weapon. Somewhat unusually, the Liberator II doesn't feature a secondary battery, instead counting on its sophisticated targeting computer to deal with frigates and corvettes. It does however have a hefty point defense battery of Light Turbolaser Turrets and Missile Launchers, in addition to Tractor-Pressor Beams and a set of Antimissile Octets for last ditch defense. All weapon systems are integrated into the Targeting Computer and usable for self and area defense, and it is this role which the ship excels at.
As with the Cutlass Frigate, the Liberator quickly proved to be effective but also abnormally expensive and it sees only limited deployment across Alliance Task Forces. It is rarely seen as an independant ship, where its limited speed gives it no advantages over similarly-sized vessels in a patrol role.
