DESCRIPTION |
Aether Systems envisioned the Ultra-Light Assault Vehicle Mk 2 as a stopgap for the Galactic Alliance until heavier, well-rounded Landspeeders could be produced and deployed in larger quantities. However, despite this initial intention, the ULAV Mk 2 has found its niche within the overall structure of the Alliance Military, specifically reconnaissance and commando units. With a design centered around speed and maneuverability, it is best deployed with tactics or assaults that are focused on lightning strikes or out-maneuvering enemy forces, areas of specialty that the vehicle shines. However, this agility and maneuverability has come at a heavy cost, specifically when it comes to the vehicle's defensive capabilities. The ULAV Mk 2 is only equipped with lightweight armor, and though it is sufficient to withstand most small arms fire, it is incapable of withstanding strikes from heavier armaments. Likewise, it retains a design flaw present in its predecessor; while the rear-mounted Heavy Blaster Cannon does have a 180-degree firing arc, it often requires that the pilot maneuver the vehicle in such a manner as to take advantage of this, exposing the rear of the vehicle. A design feature that wasn't present in its predecessors, however, is the inclusion of a Magnetic Harpoon Mount, which allows the vehicle to be equipped with a magnetic harpoon in place of the rear-mounted blaster cannon. This allows the Ultra-Light Assault Vehicle Mk 2 to be utilized similarly to the Rebel Snow Speeder when deployed against enemy walkers. Though the Ultra-Light Assault Vehicle Mk 2 is a smaller vehicle, it more than makes up for this with its speed and agility. Often experiencing difficulty against heavily armored vehicles or well-fortified positions, its armaments are more than enough to wreak havoc with lightning hit-and-run tactics, or when utilized to decimate formations relying heavily on Infantry or equally lightly armored vehicles. The ULAV Mk 2 provides the Galactic Alliance with an agile Landspeeder well suited for special operations that can easily be smuggled behind enemy lines or deployed in vast numbers to swarm a position due to its small size. |
