Members of the Special Forces were typically trained in piloting, regardless, pilots were heavily screened with many insurances to prevent infiltration. Additionally, the military station focused much more on a defensive armament rather than what one might find in battle of capital versus capital grade weaponry.
With secrecy as the main idea behind its design, the Umbra-Class was outfitted with an array of remote controlled self-destruct abilities. Manual ones were possible, though they required the correct authorization in the form of a valid rank, an access key (to actually activate the self-destruct) and the typical run down of biometrics in the form of optical, finger prints, and a constantly changed voice password. Remotely, from anywhere and at any time, a transponder was active, only capable of being registered by sensors intimately scouring those channels, otherwise unknown, a single command could be transmitted to activate the immediate self-destruction of the Space Station.
