- Space Station Name: Unimatrix Zero
- Station Model: Binary-class Star Fortress
- Classification: Colony Administration
- Location: Chenj, Trebodar System, Expansion Region
- Affiliation: Droid Cooperative
- Population: Moderate
- Demographics: Droids, with a very slim margin representing cyborgs sufficiently augmented as to sufficiently integrate into an all-droid environment.
- Accessibility: Controlled Access. Droids could freely access the station, while requests for access by organic lifeforms were typically redirected to nearby Lunar Station or Danton VI. Internally, sensitive areas of the station were also controlled, with critical engineering and control systems having security protocols in place to prevent access by droids without a reason for accessing those systems.
- Traffic: Low. The Trebodar System was an oft ignored area of the Expansion Region, located away from the major hyperlanes. This was a significant factor in the Droid Cooperative's decision to establish its colony there, with most of the traffic in or out of the system being associated with the Cooperative's Droid Logistics Company. The only other installation in the system was Lunar Station in orbit of Danton VI. Organic lifeforms attempting to dock at Unimatrix Zero were routinely re-routed to one of those alternative ports.
- Description: Unimatrix Zero was the home base for the free droid commune known the Droid Cooperative. A Binary-class Star Fortress, that station was a fully armed and operational battlecruiser that maintained an orbit around the gas giant Chenj. A large solar collector array was deployed on either side of the station, giving it a distinctive appearance.
- Docking Bay (Hangar). The point of embarkation/debarkation for the station, making it the first place that one sees when arriving. Arrivals are tracked and logged, though droids have unrestricted access to most parts of the station.
- Observation Lounges (Port/Starboard). Offering panoramic views overlooking the hangar. A favorite destination for watching arrivals and departures from the station, or just staring out into space.
- Droid Repair Station. Located near the Docking Bay, this was the equivalent of a MedBay for organics, with quarantine facilities if needed to isolate any newcomer to the station from the general population.
- Blue Sector (Station Operations). Restricted Access Area. The areas of the station devoted to administration, communications, and processing sensory data. The bridge, or station ops, was the central nexus point and located in this sector. Spanning two decks, the bridge/station ops was an oval-shaped command center.
- Red Sector (Commerce). The commercial sector, boasting shops, charging stations, oil bath spas, parts stores, and even a casino. A hotel catering to visitors to the station also operated here. All businesses were droid-owned and catered specifically to droids.
- Green Sector (Habitat Zone A). A residential district with accomodations for humanoid models that more closely resemble typical human habitats.
- Arboretum. Located between the two habitat zones, this space incorporated aspects of both hanging gardens and a museum, displaying pieces created by droids.
- Grey Sector (Habitat Zone B). A residential district with accomodations for non-humanoid models. Apartment blocks were tailored for astromechs, gonks, and the unique shape or requirements of a particular class or model. These more often resembled droid corrals or casule hotels.
- Brown Sector (Engineering). Restricted Access Area. The industrial underbelly of the station, housing activities and equipment related to waste processing, recycling, and the main reactors.
High. Unimatrix Zero was a fully armed and operational battlecruiser, possessing point-defense laser cannons and turbolaser batteries along with deflector shields. The Cooperative's internal communications network also enabled rapid information sharing, which included tracking of arrivals to the station as well as system access requests, enabling the Cooperative to quickly identify unauthorized units. The station was also defended by an all-volunteer force that included vulture-class battle droids. A further challenge to any organics seeking access to the stations systems was the lack of visual displays or tactile access terminals. Due to the nature of the ship's intended crew, most systems were accessed directly via scomp-link or wireless interfacing.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Unimatrix Zero was founded as the home for the droid rights movement known as the Droid Cooperative. While technically a battlecruiser, it operated as a colonial space station and was intended as a safe haven and port of call for free droids. Despite organizing as a passive resistance to what it viewed as a galactic policy of chattel slavery toward droids, the Cooperative built and developed Unimatrix Zero as a fully armed and operational battlecruiser. Their stated goals in doing so were two-fold. One, the ability to defend their home. Two, the ability to relocate if necessary for self-preservation or the security of the Cooperative. This made Unimatrix Zero not only the central point of the Cooperative colonization efforts in the Trebodar System, but also their only continuity of operations contingency should those efforts come under attack.
In its stationary orbit around Chenj, the station deployed an elaborate array of solar collectors as part of its auxiliary power system. Those collectors had to be retracted before the station could be configured for interstellar travel. The Cooperative estimated that, in the best case scenario, if an evacuation order were given that it would take precisely fifty-seven minutes and twenty-eight seconds from the time solar array retraction was initiated to the time when the hyperdrive would be spun up. A fact that the Cooperative had to balance when determing any "fight or flight" decisions in the face of an actual or perceived threat, as it would be an hour later before the Cooperative would be able to jump away.
The station was organized in a series of "sectors" that were color-coded. Areas within those sectors were then identified numerically. Sector Blue-Zero-One was the technical identifier for station operations, while maintenance access for the solar ionization reactor was located in sector Brown-Seventeen. The Red sector was the station's marketplace or promenade, containing a hotel and casino, shops, and spas that catered exclusively to droids. The habitat areas were divided into two divergent areas. The Green sector contained those apartments that were more humanoid or human-catering in design, such as for bipedal models that followed the humanoid form. The Gray sector contained accomodations for astromechs, gonks, and other similarly non-humanoid frames. An arboretum containing hanging gardens and a museum of droid art was located between the two habitat areas.
The Cooperative maintained friendly relations with the human colony on Danton VI, which served as a sort of mediator between the Cooperative and organics seeking to engage it. Danton VI and its orbital station were frequently used as meeting points with organics. Ships requesting to berth at Unimatrix Zero with organic crews were often re-directed to Danton VI, though any droids on board those ships were, of course, welcome to board the station. In part, this was necessary as the station lacked sufficient support facilities for organics. But it was also true that such a lack of facilities was also by design.
This was a safe haven for droids. Organics were not welcome here.
