Unionization (Inden Industries joining Techno Union)

Salvador Inden sat in his new office, hands over his face. His company was finally starting to get back on its feet, but there was still such a long way to go. He crunched some numbers in his head and frowned. We won't be able to do this alone. Fortunately, we won't have to.

He turned to the console on his desktop and began preparing a message. Into the Recipient: field he entered an address he had gleaned in his time as Ahra.

Mr. Starchaser.
You may not know me, but I know of you.

My name is Salvador Inden. I am the CEO of Inden Industries, a...
He paused a moment, thinking about the massive corporation they used to be. He grimaced, and forced himself to continue.
...a budding cybernetics company, with branches into droid and medical technology. We are interested in joining the Techno Union.

When can we meet? And what steps must we take to make this a reality?
I look forward to your response.

Salvador Inden
CEO of Inden Industries

He sat back, considering the message for a moment. Joining the Techno Union would be huge step toward rebuilding the company, not to mention the possibility of collaboration with other corporations.

He hit send and leaned back in the chair. Now we wait.

Marek Starchaser was still the Foreman of the Techno Union, even if he was allowing others to run the government. Really, for a corporotacracy, it put him in a strong political standing here, and he enjoyed it. Especially when he could lay most of the work on assistants. Especially Alana. But there were certain things that made it to his desk (security breach).

And that was typically dealing with CEOs of companies. And this one, this Inden Industries. Cybernetics, medical work, droids. He did a little bit of homework, which meant that he had Alana have an intern scour the HoloNet. And see what SpyNet could dig up. It was good to have his finger on that as well. Thank you, [member="Raziel"] for your agents.

Turning his head to the side so hs neck cracked, he started composing the next message.

Mr. [member="Salvador Inden"]:

I would love to discuss your endeavor joining the Techno Union. I see you're not too far from the Abrion Sector. Meet at our Headquarters on Hypori. Two days from now. Bring a list of your current research projects, and company goals.

-Foreman Starchaser.

And with that sent off, Marek went back to perusing the product list, and seeing what they were offering.

I look forward to our meeting.

Salvador Inden
CEO of Inden Industries

Two days later
Sal stood before the towering building, a briefcase in one hand and wearing a perfectly fitted suit. Today may well determine the fate of the company. With that thought on his mind, he entered the building at a brisk, confident pace. "I have a meeting with [member="Marek Starchaser"]." he informed the receptionist. He stood in the lobby, mentally going over the contents of the briefcase. It didn't have anything major - a few demonstration items and a datapad with information about their R&D projects - but it would hopefully be enough for Starchaser.

And where were the spiders
There were just certain things that Marek was looking for to round out the Techno Union. He really should get back to the huge pile of applications, but he was waiting on a few things, like the SpyNet background checks on certain companies to pass, so they don't sit in pending hell. But really, he made some calls on his own, and a cybernetics company? Marek did want to live forever, and maybe cybernetics was the answer? Kind of a reverse BiCentennial Man, sort of deal. It wasn't like his chosen Force power needed him to wave his hands, just... project.

The new power.

Weather, not telekinesis.

Waiting in his office at the appropriate meeting time, he sent http://starwarsrp.net/topic/34617-alana-flag/]Alana Flag[/url] to retreive the CEO. She stepped into the waiting office and nodded to the receptionist. “Marek will see you now. If you'll follow me.” She wore a black dress and wedged heels. Not anything too distracting, just the way she carried herself was enough, if people asked Marek. She knew what Marek was after, thinkers, and not copiers, people who would do. And she wasn't sure what the Force was telling her about [member="Salvador Inden"]. But he didn't seem hostile.

Lucky for her, most didn't know she was a Forcer, unless she was carrying out an assassination, but she had her own agents for that.

Kind of like how Marek made her go bring the man to his office. She knocked on Marek's door when they got there, and the Foreman's voice gave a "Come in."

Showtime, Sal.

(OOC: Alana NPC Sub http://starwarsrp.net/topic/34617-alana-flag/ )

Sal nodded at the woman he assumed to be Starchaser's personal assistant and entered the office. Impressive. "Foreman Starchaser, I presume?" He set the briefcase on the large desk and sat in the guest chair, noting with some amusement that he sat several inches below the other man. Corporate life is the same across the galaxy, it seems. "Salvador Inden. Let's talk business."

[member="Marek Starchaser"]

And where were the spiders
Standing up to meet [member="Salvador Inden"], Marek nodded. “Just call me Marek, well, maybe after the meeting.” He hated being called anything but his first name when he was dealing with people on the regular. He shook his head at himself, and obviously, being in charge of an entertainment company his desk would be on a subliminal stage. Reaching out his hand for Inden, he nodded.

“Have a seat. Lets talk business.” He agreed. "I've seen you're up and coming, again. And we are looking to expand the Union's interests into the cybernetics and medical realm. Impress me."

He could be a hard-ass sometimes, he needed to be.

Sal took [member="Marek Starchaser"]'s hand and shook it, noting the foreman's use of "again". So he knows the company's history, or enough to make an educated guess. He sat and opened the briefcase, pulling out a datapad. "Stop me if you have any questions, or if I'm going too fast. Most of our inventory and, unfortunately, research was destroyed recently, so we've had to start from scratch. Most of our current stock at the moment is standard civilian replacements." He took a bionic heart and realistic hand from the case and laid them on the desk. "These are mostly for amputees, disease victims, and the like. But I'm sure that's not your primary concern." He fiddled with the datapad for a moment and slid it across to Marek. "The augmentation line was the hardest hit. Currently, we are down to basic networking enhancements, improved limbs, and bionic eyes, though we are improving these and redeveloping aural enhancers, a wide variety of implants, and hygienic augmentations." Examples and specifications flashed across the screen of the datapad. "Finally, we have the military line. This includes not only emergency medical supplies, such as temporary limbs, but a wide variety of combat augmentations." The datapad changed again and he frowned. "Unfortunately, we lost many of those as well. We currently offer several combat implants, including medical and reflex systems, but many of the more... delicate procedures, including hardened skin and communications upgrades, will have to wait until we can rebuild a bit." He took a deep breath, considering whether or not to add the next part. "We also offer combat mech suits, but they're in a... complex situation at the moment. Adapting an organic for their use is a permanent procedure, which we can carry out, but the suits themselves are currently under redevelopment. We can prepare the soldier, but not give him the gun, so to speak."

[OOC: In all seriousness, feel free to interrupt. I'll edit it down and resume in the next post.]

Corey's OOC

And where were the spiders
Marek was the type of person to just... listen. For a bit. This... this whole thing was a lot more than a bit. But what he did enjoy was this man, this [member="Salvador Inden"]'s …. obsession? Devotion? What was the word he was looking for? Reaching out to try to get a read through the Force on the situation. Lucky for Marek, and most people who met with him, he had meetings recorded, and a program that would write all words spoken, so he could read and search through meetings. He nodded at the points given.

Civilian prosthetics. Standard, but room for research.

Military medical work, and implants. Good, a bit more interest.

And finally these suits. “Are your talking about binding a person into a suit? Or... combat use only?”

Now this was interesting.

Sal smiled. He liked this project, and was glad he had decided to mention it. "I'm glad you asked." He took the datapad back and fiddled with it as he talked. "The BEM suits - ah, Bionic Enhancement Mechs - are extremely powerful in combat, giving not only incredible durability to the soldier using it but also a vantage point, the ability to carry incredibly heavy weapons, and several other, optional attachments." He slid the datapad back to [member="Marek Starchaser"], information, images and statistics now on the screen. "It can even fortify itself to act as a sort of mobile cover for more traditional infantry, and that's not to mention the intimidation factor of having a three-meter hulk of durasteel and lasers charging you." Slow down. That's not what he asked. "Unfortunately, for maximum efficiency and effectiveness, the soldier must make... sacrifices. In order to use the mechsuit, the subject must be upgraded. This involves removal of all limbs and adaptation of the torso, allowing for direct neural control over the mech. Now, that's not to say they're stuck as a torso - we have multiple lines of high-end prosthetics specifically for the users' use out of combat - but the procedure is irreversible." He allowed a nervous and slightly embarrassed smile to play across his face. "Obviously, this is a major turn-off for many potential users, which is partly why we lost our stock so easily. There was never enough demand to keep too many in storage. We do have a few more standard mech suits, but they offer nowhere near as much firepower or protection as the BEMs." He kept and eye on Marek, trying to gauge his reaction. This information could either go over very well or very poorly.

[OOC: This is one of the Factory subs I have waiting for the company to actually be approved]

Now that was something... A three ton mech suit that... became the person? Or the person lost themselves in? That was going to need a huge bit of public relations work. “That concept... it'll be tricky to pass by, but I am already having an idea.” Y'know, because in Starcraft they had Dragoons. That housed fallen soldiers.

Robocop comes to Star Wars?

How awesome would that be?

“How much testing have you done on this?”

[member="Salvador Inden"]

"Not enough," Sal admitted. "Prototypes performed extremely well in the tests we have done, but none got the chance to see any actual combat. There's a definite possibility we'll have to drop a few of its attributes before it can actually be produced." As much as he hated the idea, he knew very few concepts made it from the drawing board to the front lines without changes. "And with our current resources, it's unlikely we'll be back to the point of building them anytime soon." Time to steer the conversation back to the matter at hand. "Of course, with the support of the Techno Union, we would be able to get to that point much faster than if left to our own devices."

[member="Marek Starchaser"]

Corey's OOC

And where were the spiders
Hmm. Sacrifices. That was a risky move, but important that a CEO was willing to make them, even if it sounded reluctant. “We might be able to use that invention for our wounded soldiers, the flesh ones that are still... shall we say patriotic?” Marek would also take 'crazy' as an adjective here. But there was a bit of drive, a healthy bit in the CEO. Marek nodded to [member="Salvador Inden"].

“Theoretically, what would you say it would take to be able to produce these? Don't worry about finding willing candidates, just the production side.” There were militaries the galaxy over that the Techno Union would sell to, surely someone would enjoy this.

He wanted to see what the Techno Union could do for Inden THEN he would see the reverse.

Ask not what the capitalist union can do for you, but what you can do for the capitalist union.

"Actually, that was part of the idea. Sometimes it can be faster to adapt a soldier to use the mech than it would take for that soldier to heal from their battle wounds." Sal frowned and quickly ran a few simulations in his head. "Well, we're still setting up our new production centers. Really, it's a matter of how much we prioritize it. Current plans don't have it very far forward," He smiled apologetically. "However, if we knew that there was an immediate market for them, we could rearrange the priorities a bit. Best case scenario, we could have a few rolling off the lines in... two months or so." Absolute best case scenario was six weeks, but that relied heavily on everything (including this meeting) going exactly right - which never, ever happened. "Of course, this includes help in construction efforts, resource acquisition, and the like. Without help, it'll be closer to six or eight months." Realistically, he would like to get the civilian operation well underway as soon as he could, since that was where the majority of the profits came from. However, if the mechs were what gained the Techno Union's interest, then mechs they would make.

[member="Marek Starchaser"]

And where were the spiders
Now this guy was someone that military leaders the galaxy over would love. He was willing to say the things, and offer the things, most wouldn't. Soldiers a second chance, a way to heal and a way to keep serving. Training a new soldier from the ground up would probably cost more than these mechs. It was just a matter of getting them to pass through inspections. “I can allow you some Techno Union resources to contact some governments, including Abrion, perhaps their military leaders will give you a sit down. I can get you on a few desks, getting in the front door is on you.”

He could set up production, product sharing and research teams, but making people buy? That was tricky. Running a hand over his chin, he looked at [member="Salvador Inden"].

“And the last question, well, one of the last ones.” He smirked. “What can Inden Industries bring to the table for the Techno Union? What are you willing to assist with, to push forward into the market that may help other companies?”

"Good enough for me." Getting in doors was half his job anyway. He took a moment to consider the question. "Well, as you mentioned earlier, we would bring the cybernetic and medical aspect of our company to the Techno Union. In addition, there's a lot of overlap with droid tech, so we can certainly collaborate in that field - though it may be better if we let someone with more experience build the AI." He paused, frowning in contemplation. "We're currently working on advancing communications tech - some of the implants I mentioned earlier are specifically tailored to that - and could certainly adapt that technology to droids, armor, vehicles or ships." The next part had been a company secret for years under the former CEO, but this meeting seemed to be going well enough that Sal felt comfortable sharing it. "On the manufacturing end, we have a production system that relies heavily on organic-machine communication. It can take the overseer a bit to get used to, but once they do it increases efficiency dramatically. Once we are a part of the Union, I would be more than happy to share the details." The fact that the meeting is going well does not guarantee a good outcome. He had already said much, and had to keep a few cards close to his chest. "Similar concepts could be extended to other areas. Communication between man and machine can be a tremendous boon when done right - and that's our specialty."

[member="Marek Starchaser"]

He liked that. A CEO who had someone, or they themselves made deals was important. Meant they'd go far. Or if they knew how to do business and make it so that the right people heard the right names? Important as well. It'd be like if he did take Sasha up on 10 percent of Bright Star. She could probably get them in the right places. A woman, after all, was the best salesperson there was. “We do have several partners, or reaches to droid manufacturers, though some of them will come to you, if they're interested.” He was thinking about [member="Gerion Ardik"]'s Hegemonic Automaton.

“As for adapting it to starships, we do work very strongly with Santhe Corp, and have several other vehicle manufacturers, not to mention our small arms companies. And I'd definitely like to see your operation in action.” And that meant personally. “I'm feeling very good about the future, Mr [member="Salvador Inden"]. I can give you forty eight standard hours to think this over, if you'd like?”

What really sold him was the organic-machine cooperation. And the cybernetics. Niche markets were a boon.

"Oh, I'm sure I won't need that long." Sal smiled as he placed the datapad, hand, and heart back in the briefcase. The board might have concerns about prioritizing the BEMs, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. He stuck out his hand. "I look forward to working with the Techno Union, Mr. [member="Marek Starchaser"]."

(There is an Invasion going on or something...)

Marek grinned as he watched the CEO and potential business associate pack up. He wasn't going to turn it down, but it wasn't up to him completely. That's why he liked working with insectoid species. Very precise engineering and a hive mentality. Convince the leader and the rest are in your pocket. Taking [member="Salvador Inden"]'s hand he nodded. "I look forward to hearing that your board approves." Because Marek was a bit of a Force user, sometimes.

"Would you like a ride to your ship? I can arrange, however I'm actually in the building today so I've got meetings." Normally this man didn't do the whole meeting thing.

(You don't say?)

"Thank you, but I've made arrangements." Sal had plans to explore the city a bit - since he was likely to spend a good deal of time in this general area, it was a good idea to get the lay of the land. "Have fun with those meetings. It was a pleasure." Nodding respectfully to [member="Marek Starchaser"], Sal took his leave. He nodded to Alana on the way out, and walked from the building into the city. A smile spread across his face. The start of a new era.
