- Beer Goggles: The Visor alters the visual perceptions of whoever is wearing it, changing how they see people and objects. Intended to be used in a diplomatic setting by those who are uncomfortable with the outward appearance of whoever they are dealing with, it is capable of translating the appearance of an individual or group from one species to another, such as making a Hutt look like a Human or vice versa. This computer-generated image utilizes the beauty standards of both species to craft an accurate translation, bringing out the "true beauty" of whoever the wearer is looking at.
- Controversial: Questions regarding the ethics of altering people's perceptions of reality, as well as the possibility that the device may actually prove harmful to relations between species, have circulated ever since the Visor's inception. Some may find use of the Visor offensive, arguing that truth is more beautiful than a lie, and that the Visor places too much focus on the superficial. Others see it simply as a tool similar to the Universal Translator produced by the very same company.
- Not Indestructible: The Visor is made with standard materials and has no special protective properties. It will not survive blaster bolts, lightsabers, ION energy, or even a significantly hard impact.
Created by Cybot Galactica, the same company that brought you the Personal Universal Translator, the Universal Diplomatic Visor (UDV) is a well-crafted gadget with a simple design. The Visor alters whatever the wearer is looking at into something more appealing to them, usually based on the individual's species, though it can also be programmed according to more specific preferences.
The Visor was rumored to have been inspired by the Pylantians, a species whose females have an appearance considered monstrous by much of the rest of the galaxy. This proved a problem during first contact, with tragic results for a young Pylantian girl who was incorrectly assumed to be a threat. In the interest of avoiding future incidents in the same vein, the Visor is intended to be used to smooth over diplomatic relations between groups who might otherwise find it hard to relate to beings who look very different from them.
