STRENGTHS
The Unix-class medium freighter was the primary workhorse of the Droid Logistics Company Limited Partnership. Many aspects of the design borrowed from the GR-75 medium transport, such as the elevated bridge. Cargo containers were latched directly to the hull. This included all available surfaces: ventral, lateral, and dorsal. Smaller cargo pods were stacked together on the upper deck, aft of the bridge tower. An antennae containing a number of sensors and the ship's subspace transceiver extended from the starboard side of the vessel. The hull was reinforced with carbon durasteel armor as a precaution against gravimetric shearing caused by the cargo containers as the ship transited across varying gravitational environments. While not its intended purpose, that design decision had the added benefit of making the Unix-class a hardened target.
Fully loaded, a Unix-class freighter was capable of moving as much as 19,000 metric tons of cargo. However, the ships were slow and sluggish due to this additional mass. The Unix-class focused on transport of material goods and did not support passengers. In terms of the interior, the ships were designed to accommodate a droid crew in comfort, but were not designed with support for organic crew. A basic nourishment synthisizer was included for those droids with organoform circuitry, such as Saotome biots, which may have nutritional requirements for maintaining function.
