DESCRIPTION |
Conflicts are rarely ever fought on pristine terrain or on the perfect flat plains that every Tank Commander dreams of having, they are often fought on scarred and blasted wastes, dense forests, and uneven, often unstable, terrain that makes maneuvers or deploying forces difficult. In an attempt to overcome this, Aether Systems looked to an older design utilized by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, the UT-AT. The Unstable Terrain Heavy Artillery Sled retains many of the design aesthetics, and unfortunately, flaws of its predecessors, however, it still provides a stable artillery platform that can be more readily and easily deployed and utilized in difficult terrains such as bogs, marshes, and quagmires that a heavier vehicle such as a walker would sink into or become trapped. The UT-HAS was designed primarily as a self-propelled artillery piece that utilizes Repulsorlift Skis to easily maneuver over unstable terrain, allowing the vehicle to stabilize itself on terrain that other vehicles would have difficulty even traversing. However, the main drawback of these Repulsorlift Skis is the significant gap that is often created between the vehicle and the surface of the terrain which can be easily exploited. A well-aimed strike or the use of explosives in this area can often result in the vehicle rocketing up into the air before crashing back down against the ground; in these instances, it often results in severe injury or even death of all individuals onboard. Likewise, the vehicle's wide profile and lack of anti-air defenses means it is a tantalizing target for aerial strikes and often requires additional anti-air support to effectively execute its missions. Each vehicle was also designed with a larger carrying capacity than its predecessor and is capable of carrying specialized equipment and bridge-building kits that were often an afterthought added onto its predecessors. This larger capacity also allows the vehicle to accommodate a larger quantity of passengers than its predecessors, effectively expanding its role into that of mechanized infantry. With the conflicts that the Alliance finds itself embroiled in continuing to spread among the vast innumerable systems of the Galaxy, its forces continue to be deployed into even more strange and difficult terrains to overcome along with engaging the enemy. The UT-HAS is a vehicle that can provide those forces with the upper hand and allow them to strike from terrain thought impassable or too difficult to traverse. |
