DESCRIPTION

Upshot is a military technology company primarily concerned with developing experimental technologies into a form suitable for the mass market. The company’s process is generally to take a once rare and underdeveloped weapon or other piece of military hardware or software and cut it down to a size and price where it becomes available to any moderately sized planetary military or minor faction. Upshot runs off of attempting to cut corners with advanced hardware while retaining the usefulness in a degree where it is still worth the effort and material cost. Upshot also develops both prototypes and often receives contracts to design, prototype, and construct starships or other technologies from both system governments and minor factions that might otherwise not have the intellectual resources available for such production orders.

RATIONALE

The start of Upshot was a small ammunition manufacturer started by Janwha-Dekker off of inherited funds, supplying slugs and energy cells for security forces. Slowly building profits and lucky finds in the form of aspiring but overlooked student scientists allowed Upshot to build up a small collection of company designed weapons that would begin to turn profits relatively quickly. Additional funds were brought in through custom projects and renting out both manufacturing facilities and secure research laboratories to independent contractors who might otherwise lack the funds for expensive equipment needed to build workshops from the ground up.
