Technology, neutrality, conformity: these are the three pillars of Anomid culture. The ruling council of Yablari has, for thousands of years, engineered a society centered around peaceful, prosperous progress, sheltered from the horrors of a war-torn galaxy. The planet and its people have fallen under the rule of many interstellar governments, from the Old Republic to the Galactic Empire to the resurgent Sith. Within each they have been reserved and compliant, doing nothing that would invite interest in their affairs from the wider galaxy. To most Anomids, their lives planned from beginning to end to comfortably fit the roles society has available for them, this is as it should be; harmonious, tranquil, regimented. But to a notable few, living within such a society is intolerable.
Urvan Wode fell into the latter category. Although intelligent and technologically gifted from a young age, more than fit for a gradual rise through the ranks of one of the many corporations than brought great wealth to his homeworld, he had no patience for such a slow ascent. He chafed under rules and regulations, always eager to take shortcuts in the name of pleasure and profit. Yablari was much too crowded a pond for Wode; he envisioned a life for himself in which no being stood over him, holding him accountable. He was hungry for the freedom to do as he pleased, without the restrictive laws of the ruling council or the Sith Empire above them. With the galaxy in chaos, governments rapidly arising and collapsing as the fires of war burned across system after system, Wode knew that the time was ripe to seize that life.
And so it was that Urvan Wode left Yablari in order to forge his own destiny. He used his tremendous business acumen, as well as his willingness to get his hands dirty, to ruthlessly and effectively move into one of the most destabilized parts of the galaxy: the Centrality, a backwater region caught between the oppressive Sith Empire and the genocidal Bryn'adul. With the refugees of countless worlds thrown together among the isolated planets, the governing authority on Erilnar was utterly overwhelmed, and crime ran rampant. Wode moved into the Centran underworld, making allies of those he could and brutally suppressing those who opposed him. Soon he had seized control of the lesai spice tunnels of Zebitrope IV, bringing him the wealth to establish himself as a power player in Outer Rim smuggling.
Using his new allies and resources, Wode formed the Spinward Syndicate, a criminal network taking advantage of the chaos in the Centrality to enrich themselves. He knew that he was playing a dangerous game; although the eyes of both the Sith and the Bryn'adul were, for the moment, focused coreward, they could move in on the Centrality at any moment, and his little underworld empire could easily burn along with the planets they conquered. But Wode craved the risk like an addict craves lesai. It meant that he was free to rise or fall based on his own merits and ruthlessness. It meant that the only law he had to respect was the law of strength. Whatever he seized was his for as long as he could hold it, and his life would be whatever his cleverness and brutality could forge it into. And he swore that wealth and power would be his.
Appearance and Traits
Tall but extremely thin, Wode is a menacing, skeletal presence that looms over the average human. His skin is pallid and clammy, as if it belonged to a cave-dwelling creature, and his blank grey eyes add to that impression. The voice that emerges from his vocoder mask is a buzzing hiss, harsh and unsettling to the ears. All of this is deliberate, to keep those he deals with off-balance. Wode dresses in long, loose jackets that hang oddly from his skeletal frame, giving him plenty of places to conceal weapons and other useful devices that he can rapidly deploy against any who would dare challenge him face to face. He is not particularly strong, but he is quick, both mentally and with a blaster. His movements are rapid and spidery, his long limbs propelling him with a surprising and eerie agility whenever the need arises.
+ Intelligent: Wode is quick-thinking and clever, with a good head for business.
+ Agile: Wode is surprisingly nimble, making him hard to hit and good with a blaster.
+ Charismatic: Wode is excellent at inspiring loyalty in allies and fear in enemies.
- Arrogant: Wode can be overconfident, underestimating his opponents.
- Weak: Wode is not at all physically imposing, and can be overpowered in combat.
- Reliant: Wode relies heavily on others to run his criminal organization.
