BIOGRAPHY:

Origins

Born to a pair of noted Echani mercenaries, Salem continued the family business at 17, joining his family’s small company. Given no special preference, his parents were actually even harder on him as they pushed him to excel in Echani martial arts and war. Constantly training and fighting, he became proficient in the art of predicting the moves of his opponents. Echani battle predictions weren’t like the premonitions of diviners, but specialized behavioral profilings that any competent warrior could learn with practice and dedication. Not content with only being good at echani martial arts, he really sat down and analyzed it and other systems to truly understand it. As he eventually surpassed his parents, his role in the company shifted from a simple grunt to a tactical planner. In this new role, he applied his talents to the business side of things to help the company grow. (Just like how some businessmen apply Sun Tzu’s “Art of War” to their dealings.)

At age 29, Salem’s father died during a mission, so control of the company fell to him. It wasn’t a difficult transition, as he had effectively been running the company with his mother in the last years leading up to his father’s death. He ran the company competently, and experienced steady growth. Everything seemed to be looking up for Salem until he took a seemingly innocent job to help pacify an insurgency in an independent outer rim world. That job turned out to be a farce as he and his men were gassed unconscious by his employers. The employers turned out to be minions of a powerful Sith alchemist, Darth Lamia, looking for another batch of skilled warriors for experimentation.

Sith Abduction

Over the course of the better part of a year, Salem and his comrades experienced Forced-enhanced torture at the hands of the Lamia and his minions, to break their will and erase their memories while retaining their skills. When finally broken, the alchemist indoctrinated them in the ways of the Sith as he began his experiments on them. Lamia’s goal with Salem and the other non-force sensitive warriors he had collected over the years was to create a corp of artificial force-sensitive super soldiers. His subjects underwent gene therapy to rebuild their body with genetically modified DNA that augmented their physical attributes. Their bones and skin (in the form of tattoos) were infused with micro-shards of Force crystals attuned to the Dark Side, which would allow them to draw upon the Force. The whole process was extremely traumatic for people already broken by torture. They would die in droves, only Salem and a handful of other prisoners and volunteers surviving.

He was immediately put to work by Lamia as an enforcer of his territory and beyond. In Sith space, Salem was never in want of upstarts, challengers, and backstabbers to slaughter for Lamia. Such was his skill at dispatching Lamia’s enemies, that he became one of the Sith Lord’s favorite pets (mockingly referred to as Lamia’s Hound), a fact which earned the envy of Lamia’s apprentice, Vome. He would physically torment Salem in secret, constantly reminding him that he would never be a real Sith. Salem’s quietly seethed in anger until one day he snapped, pulverizing his sword arm. When Lamia found out, instead of punishing Salem, he beat Vome within an inch of his life for being bested by one of his experiments. To add insult to injury, Lamia took on Salem as his second -and favored- apprentice. Salem was then dubbed Warg. The dog had become a wolf.

Despite his numerous setbacks, rival Sith Lords still became suspicious of Lamia’s intent with his project. The alchemist claimed that the project was all to contribute to the Sith war cause by replacing their scrub troopers with more durable super soldiers, but they believed that his true intent was to boost the power of his own forces to usurp their power. They conspired together to rid themselves of the threat of the alchemist, seducing his first apprentice Vome into assassinating his master in revenge for humiliating and nearly killing him. Vome would strike Lamia as the alchemist was busy focusing on his work, first mortally wounding him with hidden explosives rigged in his lab, then finishing him off by decapitation.

At the time, ironically, Salem had been away from Lamia’s fortress looking to execute another traitor. He found himself ambushed by the apprentice of one of Lamia’s rivals, aiming to capture Salem for reverse-engineering. A strange panic overcame Salem as he remembered the fear of being originally captured and tortured (though he could not remember the events themselves). The fear made him fight with a frenzied ferocity that made everyone around him a target. When all the remained was he and the apprentice, they became locked in a bitter duel that had escalated to mortal combat. While strong, he was no match for the skills of the more experienced apprentice. As he felt himself being beat into submission by the apprentice, he was filled with a sudden burst of strength that allowed him to overpower his opponent with just the Force, ending the fight by shredding them apart with only his mind.

As he had slayed his last opponent, the same power that had led him to victory began to suffocate him, ripping at his mind like it was trying to destroy it. He eventually recognized the presence of that of Lamia, who had become a specter. His fear of being captured again turned to anger, as he refused to accept death by possession. He mentally exorcised Lamia’s spirit from his body before his nental hold became too great. He wouldn’t rid himself completely of Lamia though, as he could still feel the spirit trying to attack his mind; Salem had become the spirit’s anchor to the world of the living, and now the object of its obsession as Lamia wished to take over his body and tap into his hidden potential.

Freedom?

A free man again, Salem escaped Sith space with one of Lamia’s ships for the Republic, one of the few places where he could be free of the Sith. In the Republic, he used the aid of the holonet to discover his origins as. He found his mother still well and alive, long retired from the mercenary business as she had lost both her husband and son. As much as he wanted a reunion, he decided to stay away from her for the time being, until he could find help dealing with his newfound Force abilities, and the Sith spirit that now haunted him. He considers seeking help from the Jedi, harbors a fear that they will simply lock him up as a Sith. Unsure what to do with himself, he took up work as a mercenary again, under the alias “Uther Weiss”. While he remained haunted by the spirit of his former master, he found the experience to be bearable when he limited his use of the Force. He found his old training and physical augments to be more than enough to handle himself.

Sith Invasion

Having looked to avoid the Sith by returning to the Republic, he was enraged to discover he couldn’t even find solace there as news broke of the Sith invasion of Coruscant. Even when they had corner of the galaxy to themselves, they seemed unable to shake the mad obsession they had with their Jedi brethren, as he had discovered with his time with the Sith. Well, if the Sith couldn’t keep to themselves, then it was time to take up arms against them again. He is determined to see that the entire Republic not fall not become victims of Sith excesses as he had been. However, to be effective against the Sith, he may find himself having to call upon the very powers he had largely forsaken.
