Most commonly associated with the Eclipse Rebellion, a resistance organization active within the Unknown Regions, which opposes the Eternal Empire, the V-15 'Liberator' Repeating Blaster Carbine is a highly unusual weapon. Rather than being produced in the conventional way, by a weapons manufacturing company which would then sell it on the open market, the V-15 is essentially, an "Open Source" weapon platform designed to be as simple as possible in order to allow it to be manufactured by virtually anyone possessing a minimal knowledge of blaster fabrication and the barest minimum weaponsmithing equipment.
Designed to be extremely easy to manufacture, it allows for high tolerances regarding the components that are used, thus making it possible to be manufactured using an extremely wide variety of off-the-shelf components with minimal modifications, or home made parts if the former are unavailable. As such, there is a very large number of variations existing throughout the galaxy, most notably in the Unknown Regions, where the weapon is extremely common.
It is prominently utilized by the Eclipse Rebellion, which fields it as a secondary weapon for vehicle and specialist crews, shipboard security complements and rearguard units, the most common configuration featuring a bare-bones handguard and a pistol grip that are usually manufactured out of wood, polymer, or whatever is available and a skeletonized folding stock which folds under the weapon's power cell, for ease of transportation and utilizing simplistic, fixed iron sights, although configurations featuring fixed stocks and different kinds of optics are not uncommon.
The V-15 'Liberator' is designed to be the quintessential rebel's blaster carbine, capable of effectively rendering inert any attempts by the tyrannical and oppressive governments it is intended to overthrow, to prevent dissidents from arming themselves. While crude, simplistic, inaccurate and suffering from poor handling due to the lack of any recoil mitigation features, its unique design insures its ubiquity and effectiveness.
