Vaermina was born into the Dreaming River Clan within the matriarchal society of the Dathomiri. Being female she was destined for power and recognition, yet her blood was tainted and thus shunned even from an early age. Her father was a Vahla explorer, carrying the word of the goddess Vahl on behalf of the Ember of Vahl. His religion failed to take grasp of the clans. Only Vaermina’s mother seemed foolishly drawn to his wicked charms. Or so they said. Vae could hardly trust the sources to retell the tale of two people they condemned with any accuracy. How it had happened she did not know. Exile? Death? The only truth was they were gone, she remained. Had her mother cried? She hoped so.
It is no wonder then that despite the teachings found within the Book of Law, the child was driven towards darkness. Not evil, at least not intentionally, but she had called upon her powers in anger. It did not matter that she had been provoked. It did not matter that it had been the other child’s plan all along. Vaermina had done the deed, the unnamed one had not. Why had they even bothered keeping her all this time if all that awaited was exile and death in the wilds?
Dathomir was a planet where even in the dawning days of the ABY era, a staggering nine-tenths of it remained unexplored and uninhabited. The Wilds became her new home, a land with more rancors than people. She learned to survive, to endure the assault on body and mind, but not without a cost. Surrounded by spirits, gradually her mind would begin to wither. The sentence of exile may have come with the promise of return after she had redeemed herself, but the Wilds claimed her and ensured that that would never come to pass. It was thanks only to being brought into the world within the warrior society of the Dathomiri and being blessed with the magic of Allya that she lived. That, and [member=Maiev].
Maiev was a stranger, but a kindred spirit who helped Vaermina find a home in one of the Wild Tribes. It had been a while since she had felt support, someone to rely on. It was good. And then Maiev left Dathomir without her. Vaermina was still much too young. She was not ready. Vae had been understanding, even happy for Maiev at first. But with time, in light of what came next, her memory became twisted and infested with resentment. She did not know that it was the spirit Kalax who convinced Maiev to leave without her, as their friendship was not to its benefit. Little did it matter. This clan did worse than exiling her, and Maiev had given her to them. Madness had planted its seed in her, now it took a hold.
Vaermina was destined to leave Dathomir. Her future lay elsewhere. Yet one day, perhaps, she would return and decide the fate of those who had wronged her.
