Valdemar Halstein
The Ironfist Captain
NAME: Valdemar Halstein
FACTION: CIS
RANK: Captain
SPECIES: Human
AGE: 36
SEX: Male
HEIGHT: 176cm
WEIGHT: 92kg
EYES: One blue, one cybernetic.
HAIR: Dark.
SKIN: Tanned.
FORCE SENSITIVE: NFU
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
+ Tactical Combatant. Valdemar is a competent and talented naval officer. The addition of cybernetics has increased his efficiency by making him able to interface better with the tactical computers.
+ Warforged. The addition of cybernetic enhancements has made Valdemar considerably more deadly in combat than before. In particular his right arm is much stronger than a regular human’s and he can deliver a powerful kick or jump to greater heights with his bionic legs. Finally his augmented eye allows for greater accuracy and in-built vision modes such as low light and infrared.
- Ion. The bane of all machines; ion and electrical weapons can cause severe damage or malfunction to his cybernetics.
- The Flesh is Weak. Whilst the parts of him which are augmented are stronger than a regular human, the rest of his body is merely average and can suffer harm like any other human.
APPEARANCE:
Valdemir Halstein is of above average height with quite long black hair and dark eyes. He appears to be of slight build and strength, but this appearance is deceptive.
He tends to wear a heavy uniform which is both long and concealing so that only his head is showing. His face is badly marked by a severe scar across his cheek and head, covered by his hair. This is a partial clue to the severe injuries and the implanted cybernetics he is forced to rely on. These cybernetics make him both stronger and able to analyse combat easier, but come at the weakness to ion and electric attacks.
BIOGRAPHY:
Born into the final years of the Dark Age on Corellia, Valdemir grew up on one of the more advanced planets in the galaxy at the time. His parents were skilled workers in the famous shipyards of Corellia, which afforded young Valdemar a good education. At school he was a difficult student, smart but undisciplined. His greatest problem was that whilst he was undeniably intelligent he was not quite so smart that he could simply bluff his way past exams without consequence. In the end this led to ruptures with his parents who felt he was not trying, and with the schools he attended who saw wasted potential.
Still, when Valdemar graduated from school it was as the power of the Omega Protectorate was at its height. Corellia was under the control of his powerful state and the young man was drawn to enlist in their military. At the start he worked as a trainee engineer on board a warship, but soon found himself promoted to Corporal in the marines. This appointment suited him better, as though he was good with machinery he preferred the competition and excitement of battle. He participated or witnessed several battles, but soon after it became clear the Protectorate was losing steam.
After a meeting with his family went even worse than expected and resulted in him being disinherited in favour of his sister Ashilda he left to make his own fortune, heading this time to the Republic. There, the Republic welcomed in professionals and soldiers from the Protectorate and Valdemar was promoted to Sergeant and took part in several battles against the failing Sith Empire. His talents as a soldier was a ruthless application of hard hitting assaults and a good tactical knowledge of how to use what forces he had available.
In the aftermath of the first Sith Empire’s collapse there were a few brief periods of peace. In this time Valdemar transferred from the marines into a ship’s officer, attending the naval college on Anaxes and being given command of a small corvette. It was as his training was just completing that the infamous Netherworld event occurred. Instantly the galaxy was in turmoil as whole groups vanished, nations stuttered and came close to collapse. Worse still, Corellia, Valdemar’s home, was broken by the insane campaigns of Akala. Whilst he was not ‘taken’ like so many others, Valdemar lost his mother to the Netherworld, never to return, and then his father had perished on the planet when it was broken. His sister, off world at the time, came to him and stayed with him.
There was much to do in the aftermath of this catastrophe, and the Republic was busy trying to salvage itself. Valdemar performed well, commanding his ship in numerous actions. However, the resurgent One Sith had arisen in the core and dealt defeat on defeat to the buckling Rebellion. After one particularly wasteful defeat, and with the general switch to extremism in the Republic Valdemar decided to resign.
Valdemar stayed out of the Galactic Alliance’s war with the One Sith, though he did take part in the Omega Campaign, as the threat of the planet killer was one which could not be ignored. Given command of a frigate, his ship took severe damage in the fighting, but continued to fight on. During the battle’s ending his ship was hit by a massively devastating volley of fire from one of the Rogue Sith ships and an internal bulkhead shattered apart, severely wounding Armand. Evacuated by his crew as the ship was turned into a hulk he was able to content himself with seeing the Omega destroyed by the coalition fleet.
The terrible injuries sustained by Valdemar might well have proven fatal, or at least permanently debilitating, were it not for the actions of the triage doctors and his sisters. The doctors were able to stem the bleeding, and having to deal with so many wounded, they amputated both his legs above the knee to save his life. However, his sister, using most of the funds she had left, was able to pay for cybernetics which in time were able to help him walk again and also to use his right arm.
With the Galactic Alliance drawn into a long and bloody war with the First Order, Valdemar was in no position to join in. Instead he was forced to take jobs as an engineer to live, moving to various points across the galaxy and avoiding the newly rising Sith Empire. However, he had heard of a new power rising in the galactic south, a new incarnation of the CIS refounded from the Techno Union and other groups. Therefore he travelled to Geonosis and offered his services. Said services when it came to working with droids and machinery were in high demand in the CIS, and he found employment and was able to replace his cybernetics with better models.
However, working as an engineer did not quite fulfil Valdemar, and he sought employment as an officer in the CIS navy. Dealing with droids was a different experience to dealing with a wholly organic crew, but he performed well enough to be promoted to Commander, and after Tanaab, to Captain. At this stage his cybernetics were updated a third time to make him a more formidable force in combat, but also enhancing his ability to interface with the tactical readouts.
