- Dilatant sole: The most unusual part about these boots is the dilatant sole. By using a material like this, she has the ability to jump from greater heights or make her preference for using the acrobatic Form IV much easier to use.
- Resistances: The material choice for the boots results in particularly strong resistances against lightsabers and energy-based weapons, such as blasters. Whilst these resistance ratings apply for only a short time, they can be life-saving in a combat encounter. Which Valery finds herself in very often.
- Shock-absorption: The Dilatant material in the sole of the boots helps with additional shock absorption, making it possible to jump and land from greater heights without needing the Force to cushion the fall.
- Average: While the boots have a few strengths (albeit some temporary), many of their other properties are relatively average. Because of this, the boots will typically not offer immense benefits, but they will also rarely become problematic.
- Thin plating: In order to keep the weight of the boots down, the highly resistant plating has been restricted in thickness. The result is that while the boots can tank a few hits from dangerous weapons such as lightsabers and blasters, they quickly lose their strength against them as well.
- Slow blow (dilatant): Dilatant materials are made to disperse the force of any sudden impact, whether that's a fall from a great height or a sharp object suddenly making contact. However, a knife or sharp object slowly piercing into the material will get through fairly easily.
- Radiation: Whilst metal typically offers protection against radiation, that only truly applies when there is an appropriate thickness to go along with it. Due to how thin the metal plating is, the boots offer practically no resistance against radiation.
During the battle of Jedha, Valery was caught in a massive explosion that ruined most of the personal gear she used at that time. This led to her developing an entirely new outfit piece-by-piece to replace the old one. As a Jedi who often made use of Form IV she requires boots able to take a few hits, but also something that would catch the sudden impact of falling/landing from great heights.
Because of this, a combination of thin metal plating and a dilatant sole has been used in the design to achieve both whilst keeping the weight relatively manageable. While the boots won't retain their properties for very long if they take consistent hits, they make for a great replacement when compared to her old boots.
