- Full Coverage: No matter which direction the Valiant is attacked from, it has guns of multiple types that can provide coverage.
- Exposed Weak Points: With the engines, bridge, and main deflector dome exposed, attackers intuitively know the best places to hit the frigate.
The Valiant was made in response to an increased need for convoy protection and system patrol craft that could handle fighters and the threat of other small capital ships. The inclusion of a hanger allows the Valiant a measure of flexibility to take on differing tasks from scouting, acting as a defensive picket, to launching small raids. Unorthodoxly, this hanger is inverted inside the ship, increasing the ‘floor space’ available to fighter or other small ship operations.
In keeping with the design philosophy of ORR, the Valiant was kept a steady, reliable frigate with low upkeep requirements while maintaining functionality and flexibility. So while not a stand-out in the industry, it provides a low-cost entry point in both commander skill and credit cost.
