SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Modular Lance Heads: The Valkyrie can be fitted with a variety of lance heads to fulfill different needs.
Strengths:
  • Modular: The Valkyrie's head is modular, allowing it to deliver different payloads for a variety of targets, from traditional vibroblades to power lance for use against vehicles and electrolance heads for nonlethal crowd control.
  • Heavy Hitting: Valkyries are pretty powerful weapons for their size. While some of the power is due to the physical impact of the weapon, the greater part of damage is typically due to the potent payloads attached to the lance's tip.
Weaknesses:
  • Cumbersome: Valkyries are both long and heavy, which makes them difficult to use in typical close-quarters melee combat.
  • Shatter-struck: A Valkyrie's shaft frequently shatters on impact against exceptionally hard targets, such as heavily armored vehicles or large creatures.
DESCRIPTION
Faced with the challenge of supplying relatively cheap anti-armor weapon that could remain effective on a battlefield rife with advanced defensive systems and the possibility of collateral damage, Lucerne Personal Defense turned to a relatively low-tech solution: the spear. Power Lances were used in the Clone Wars in a similar role, relying on the individual warrior's skill rather than technology to get in close and deliver the killing blow. A clone trooper's eyes couldn't be scrambled or deactivated like many modern weapons, though it needed considerable courage and skill to pull off. Lucerne Personal Defense embraced the concept, also noting that by delivering by hand, there was little chance that the payload would miss and end up causing large amounts of collateral damage. But rather than simply reintroducing the power lance, Lucerne Personal Defense expanded the concept by making the lance head itself modular, allowing it to fulfill multiple mission purposes as needed:

Power Lance: This lance head is almost a direct copy of the power lance used by clone troopers during the Clone Wars. It has a vibrating tip that can rapidly heat up, allowing it to cut away at or penetrate through vehicle armor. Upon penetration, the lance can produce a large amount of heat and smoke that can kill vehicle crews or destroy internal components. The powercell for a power lance typically lasts up to ten uses before it must be replaced.

Electrolance: This lance head turns the weapon similar to an electrolance or force pike, consisting of a vibroblade head and an electrical charging module that can be used to stun or electrify an opponent. While relatively useless against most vehicles, this weapon is well-suited for repeated use against infantry or for crowd control. The powercell for the Electrolance head typically needs to be changed after a hundred uses.

Grenade Adapter: This lance head allows a variety of grenades to be attached to the tip of the lance and be detonated by impact. Because of the relative nearness of the detonation to the user, these are almost always specialty grenades or shaped charges like the 7-PrG proton grenade that are focused away from the user. It goes without saying that most users are either heavily armored or desperate if they attach an explosive grenade to the tip of a melee weapon. The lance is typically destroyed or damaged by using this head.

Injector: This lance head at first glance appears to be a conical vibroblade tip not unlike that found on a vibropike. However, this vibrating edge conceals the fact that most of the cone consists of an internal liquid reservoir. When the vibrating tip penetrates through the target, the liquid is then injected into the target. These liquids are typically poisons, tranquilizers, or other chemical agents particularly suited for taking down large beasts, whether its a rancor, sith war mount, or a tank beast.

While Valkyries are exceptionally powerful and adaptable weapons, they are also handicapped by their basic nature as simple spears. The first obstacle is simply getting in range on a battlefield dominated by primarily by ranged weaponry like blasters and slugthrowers. To that end, most users typically use speeder bikes and organic mounts to get a chance to use the lance, or use surprise attacks from prepared positions to attack before they can be fired upon. The weapon is also not typically very good against other melee weapons such as vibroswords (to say nothing of lightsabers) in close quarters fights because of its relatively long length and heavy weight. The Valkyrie is also prone to shattering when it strikes exceptionally hard targets, such as heavy vehicles, simply because as a cheap weapon, it isn't meant for prolonged durability. This can make it a single use weapon. But for all of these drawbacks, Lucerne Personal Defense believes that it has the potential to capture a previously unknown market, where power, versatility, and tradition can allow it to overcome the inherent advantages of ranged weapons.
