- Warheads: The Vander is capable of dropping quite a lot of warheads on the enemy.
- Out Maneuvered: An average maneuverability against ships with higher maneuverability ratings renders it unable to property defend itself as most of its weapons are forward fixed.
- Hell’s Bells: The Belenus is fixed beneath the helm of the fighter, rendering it and the pilot as heavily reliant on the ship’s defenses. Or else they’ll become stardust, which may still be the case depending on weaponry being fired.
After the successful design of the Surrel-class, Halscott pursued other Rebel Alliance/Republic-inspired designs. He made an effort to contact members of the Kinniak family of whom he was related. Seeking their advice and offering them the chance to test his designs, Halscott began work on several new fighters. Each would be delivered to the Rimward Trade League as part of Primo Victorian’s efforts to aid the nation in its mission to create a better Outer Rim.
The Y-Wing was named for a legendary pilot Captain Jon “Dutch” Vander from the Rebel Alliance. After establishing the ship’s name, Halscott began to work with cousins Firelle and Niance, along with an old family friend. The Vander-class bomber, based on the old Y-Wing soon took shape. The Vander and its sister ship the Tarrak would be developed side by side as complimentary bombing vessels. Halscott followed his grandmother’s design doctrine in making sure that the two ships’ roles could not overlap thus maintaining the need for both.
Much like the Surrel, the Vander is larger and wider than the ship it was based on. Once more making for a smaller squadron. Halscott believed that while he was sacrificing squadron size that it would be the pilots in the squadrons that would make the difference. Troubled with whether or not to include a bomblet generator on the Vander, Halscott not only scoured archives. He spoke with several shipwrights before deciding on giving the Y-Wing a bomb bay, and opting to give the Tarrak a bomblet generator.
The Vander was rolled out in late 878 ABY, early 879 ABY, and like the Surrel it arrived in the Rimward Trade League in its proper colors and ready to defend the Outer Rim.
