- Deflective
- Deflective: Vanheim Steel has the ability to deflect incoming energy based weapons. When forged into a shield, the deflective properties will allow the wielders to weather a barrage of blaster bolts without fear harm. With a sword or axe, the wielder can engage and parry lightsaber strikes head on, without overt risk of damage to the blade.
- Weight: The sheer weight of Vanheim Steel prevents its use in more than limited quantities for each warrior. If forged into armor, it becomes far too bulky and cumbersome to be used in the highly fluid Danari form of warfare, and as such must remain in use only in shields and weapons.
Vanheim Steel is an ageless part of the Danari society. The metal itself has ties to the Danari religion, and is thought of as the creation and gift of Bolnair, the God of Forge and Flame, to the Danari. Legend states that Bolnair, traveling across Danarium heard the cries of the Danari people. They were beset by savage creatures with armor so thick that no mortal weapon could pierce. Villages were ransacked, and entire tribes of primitive Danari were wiped from existence. Heading the cries of the Danari, Bolnair returned to Vanheim, the realm of the Gods and Goddesses, and set his anvil to work creating a tool for the Danari to defend themselves.
For forty days and nights, Bolnair worked his forges and bellows. Each strike of his hammer sent lightning across the skies of Danarium, and the oceans of the world rose from the endless rain. On the fortieth day, Bolnair returned to Danarium, armed with two Vanheim Steel axes. He slew the beasts that plagued the Danari people, and once the last of their kind was dead, he taught the Danari how to forge Vanheim Steel themselves. In time the Danari had mastered the craft of Vanheim Steel. No simple blacksmith shops or forges would do to create the metal gifted from the Gods. Great Temples were constructed, five stories in height from which Vanheim Steel would be made. No blacksmiths would work these forges, but priests of Bolnair, dedicating their lives to the God of Forge and Flame.
That is what legend states anyway. In truth, no one knows exactly when Vanheim Steel was created. The exact practice of its creation is a closely guarded secret of the Priests of Bolnair. The people of Danarium hold to the legend yet, and believe that someday, Bolnair shall descend from Vanheim again and gift to the Danari a new gift.
